I've been reading the reviews and wow...they certainly are interesting…read more I lived there 31 years ago when I worked at WCIL radio, so I guess this may not count since they've probably been sold a couple of times. At the time I was paying about $225 to $250 for my duration. I have to admit the one bedroom I had ugly wood paneling, so it appears they have improved the decor and the rent does not seem to have increased to an insulting degree. I never had any maintenance issues, so I didn't have to deal with that. However, I was irritated that I gave them a key for emergencies which meant everything was an emergency. Letting the bug guy in. Putting packages inside the door. Whatever. I worked at night, so I didn't appreciate someone roaming around while I snoozed. After my wife moved in we didn't have any problems with parking. The only BIG problem was a couple who were on Section 8 downstairs. A former boyfriend of the woman came over to start a fight and after a few minutes of arguing, "Bang, bang, bang." Gunfire and three holes through the glass door going outside. I can only say that management got them out within 24 hours. I hope everyone else can have better experiences than what I'm reading. Hey, it was never a high end place, but it got me through a few single years.

Under no circumstances should you live here…read more Pros- apartments aren't badly priced for a single and the apartments have a cozy feel. Cons- Management or lack there of. When I first moved in I was asked to check around the newly renovated apartments to check if anything was broken so that maintenence could come fix it. They did manage to put in a screen that was missing but I still have a broken towel hook and a window that won't really open. I had to pay for a new mailbox key when they gave me one that didn't fit. According to the post office it is usually the landlord who provides the keys if they get new mailboxes due to an old tenant not returning them but no. I payed 26 dollars for a mail box key. At one point they came in without me knowing to fix my air conditioning unit which I didn't even know was broken. They proceeded to try to move my entertainment center so that they could access the unit and all but broke it and claimed it was poorly made and that's why it basically broke. How about don't touch my furniture! One weekend I had brown water. Good thing maintenence doesn't have a weekend/emergency hot line. My friends on the water side had a roach problem due to renovation but they have sprayed and apparently that is not a problem anymore. Now the straw that breaks the camels back, there was a freaking ice storm in Carbondale. One in which there was a t least a day's notice of. No one presalted the parking lot. The parking lot is covered in a thick layer of snow and ice. Again there is no weekend or emergency maitenance so I guess we are all just stuck here! Also, maintenance was supposed to be finished renovating in September. It's December. Finally, whenever I have a problem (And I have had a lot of problems) management is less than apologetic and sometimes just rude. You guys are in a service industry! Act like it! Edit: Walnut Street is under new management and I haven't had any big problems for the past year. However I still suggest you preemptively spray your apt for bugs :)

DO NOT RENT FROM THE POINTE AT SIU…read more I strongly advise against renting an apartment from The Pointe at SIU. My experience with their management has been extremely disappointing and frustrating. In January 2025, my apartment building had a roof leak that management failed to inform me about. This leak led to mold growth in my closet, resulting in over $5,000 worth of property damage (see pictures and videos for reference). Despite my explicit instructions for management not to enter my room without my presence to avoid cross-contaminating my belongings, they entered without my consent and contaminated my items. Amanda Sopher (Property Manager) and Angie Jackson (Chief Operating Officer) initially agreed to compensate me for my damaged items. They instructed me to discard the mold-damaged property, promising reimbursement. However, they are now refusing to take responsibility and are offering far less than the value of my damaged belongings -- despite the City of Carbondale issuing a violation against them for the roof leak. Fortunately, I had my sister on the phone (with their consent) during my conversations with management because I suspected they might lie -- and they did. Management even tried blaming me for poor ventilation, despite the fact that I keep a fan running, my room is well-ventilated, and I use a dehumidifier specifically for winter. None of my roommates experienced mold issues, which further proves their excuse was baseless. The mold exposure caused me severe health issues, resulting in a hospital visit and an outstanding $10,901 medical bill. When I mentioned this to Angie Jackson, her response was dismissive and unprofessional -- "Aren't you a student? Don't you have insurance?" For the record, I'm not a student, and I don't have insurance. This isn't the only issue I've faced with their management. In July 2024, I informed them in writing that I'm highly allergic to cats. Despite this, they placed a roommate with a cat in my unit while I was away. Upon returning, I experienced a severe allergic reaction that landed me in the hospital (see proof attached). When I questioned Angie about why they would place a cat in my unit despite my known allergy, her shocking response was, "It's probably good because it would toughen up your immune system." This management is negligent, dishonest, and completely unprofessional. For your safety, health, and peace of mind, I strongly recommend taking your business elsewhere. Save yourself the stress and avoid renting from The Pointe at SIU. I can go on and on for days about this management team. They are all a bunch of LIARS. make sure to document every conversation with a follow up email and always take pictures of everything even when you move out because they will lie and it will be your word against theirs.

Aspen Court - Attempted burglary. The only thing keeping out the aggressive intruder was the door stick & alarm wedge.

There were burn marks all over the kitchen, cracks and chips all over the main floor tile, burnt out lightbulbs, and broken seals in the windows. My wife and I recently just moved out and we cleaned every bathroom, kitchen, main floor, etc. We spent over 6 hours doing a deep clean and on move out they nit picked literally every little thing to prevent us from getting our security deposit back. We had a few damages to the walls which is understandable for losing part of the security deposit. However the entire place was cleaned and in good condition and they are trying to charge us EXTRA for everything. Classic Carbondale landlords giving us the landlord special and likely to the next person who moves in! On top of that, the curly headed f*** that checked us out was making creepy comments towards my wife and staring at her when I was trying to talk to him. Absolutely unprofessional and weird. How much of a pervert do you have to be to be harassing a married woman! Finally, if I haven't convinced you enough to not ever live here, the main guy at Aspen Court, Brian, is a coke head. Dude always looking like he's wired out on some cocaine and I've heard stories of him doing cocaine with girls that live at Aspen Court. If you want to live in a respectful and non creepy setting then I highly recommend NOT living here.
