The "beach" area is pathetic. Took my family and small kids. First thing I noticed right off the…read morebat was broken glass in multiple areas of the beach. Do not walk barefoot in the sand unless you enjoy getting your feet sliced up and a bank breaking hospital bill. I had rubber flip flops on the whole time and told my family to wear theirs. Then, the whole beach area isn't open?? They cordoned off most of the water area, except for one sandbar and maybe 75 feet of water across from the entry sand area to the back area on the other side which narrowed to like 40 feet. The exposed sandbar which you were allowed to walk on had what looked like goose droppings all over it. There is very little space to play or wade without bumping into someone with it being cordoned off, and the section of water that is open just looks like a big bowl of muddy water because the cordoned off area is far away from the waterfall and streams that it doesn't get as much movement aside from people. Between the droppings all over the sandbar, broken glass, close proximity of multiple people in that tiny area, it's just asking for a visit to the hospital due to some infection. You do have to pay a fee per person and idk where that money goes, needs more maintenance. It's a shame, the beach area has potential. We will not be going back.

Each ranger was so welcoming, knowledgeable, and answered all our questions. One ranger was so knowledgeable about the flora and fauna in and around the mountain. One ranger was a bird expert and shared their binoculars with us and showed us how to use a bird call app to figure out how to identify all the fowl we saw. The other ranger told us lots of stories of the history of the park. It was a great experience and I highly recommend you try it.

There's parking less than a half mile of the main entrance the only thing about that is you have to get there early . Parking lot holds maybe 25 vehicles. When I pulled in there were 6 cars. I entered the trail on the south entrance. I saw no one ! I was looking around and behind me to make sure it was okay as I was alone. I finally came up behind 2 guys that were walking up ahead. I had been out there maybe 20 min. Saw a large Buck (deer) tried to get a pic but he ran when I pulled out the phone . The trails are completely paved with several wooden bridges along the way. Off pavement trails throughout the park. I did not venture off bc again I was alone and I'm not really familiar with the park. Great park to get you in top tier shape. Winding curves and elevation along the trail. Plenty of shade as the trees hover over . It reminds you of Stone Mountain Park just not as large. Idea weather 80 degrees low humidity. Managed to get in 4 miles. I most definitely will be back .

There's probably as much parking lot area there, as there is park. There are wooden camping shelters there. Some people trailer horses to ride there. There are better parks in the area. On of my favorites is Panola Mountain state park. It's only about a 20minute drive away, and it's a lot bigger, and more interesting. There's a huge park area, and there are miles of natural trails in the woods there. It does cost 5.00 to park, but it's worth it. Alexander lake park is not far away. It's worth checking out, and so is Arabia mountain park, lots of hiking area there, including a huge granite formation like Stone Mountain, only not as high.

I park here to gain access to the rockdale river trail…read more The rockdale river trail is simply perfect for road bikes. It's miles and miles of concrete roads. There are a few places along the trail that lead to dirt roads, if you want to go off the paved road. But otherwise, it's miles and miles of nature and beauty. This trail has all that rustic and deep forests feel to it. After a few miles it might even bring out your inner poet and have you start reciting Robert Frost, "two roads diverged in a yellow wood, And sorry I could not travel both..." In case you might like the forest too much and wish to become a hermit, there are good hills thrown into the trail for good measure. It's a nice balance of even road to let you enjoy the ride, then it changes with hills interval for a good cardiovascular workout. The view is lovely. There's a lake at panola state park, river along the way, farms and even a monastery. I saw people fishing at the lake. I spied wild life such as: Ducks Deer Rabbit There are signs for bike & kayak rental at Panola State Park.
