    Camp site 20

HLCSP is another beautiful Georgia park. Super friendly staff. They offered a hay ride with Santa that the grandkids loved. There are 51 50/30 amp camp sites, thirteen with full hookup. Many sites have water views. The park also offers a mini golf, 20 cabins, a real golf course, an equestrian center with 12 camp sites and 30 stalls and a beautiful beach. There are hiking trails, mountain bike trails, and equestrian trails. This is a great place to spend the day, weekend, or week.

Cabins are roomy, very beautiful decor, grounds are a breath of fresh air.

I think you should view the most recent photos. It's changed for the better. Renovations every where. I give them an "A".

Recently attended a family reunion here and needless to say I had a horrible time. It may have been because the living arrangements were not what I expected, however I felt like I was in a horror film the entire time. We stayed in cabins that looked like they hadn't been looked at in years. The bathrooms were absolutely disgusting. Also there was snake skin lying on the ceiling in one of the common room cabins. It was about 5 feet long! I get that camping is great for enjoying nature, but this was a bit extreme. I didn't sleep at all because of the beds and the bugs that were in it. The area we were in looks like it's been there since 1875 and no one has stayed there since 1875. Overall I had a great time with my family, but I would never stay here again.

Had an absolutely fantastic time today during our first visit to this state park. Went on a 7 mile Ranger led trail hike. The trails are well maintained and the Ranger (Phillip) was very personable, courteous, and knowledgeable. The staff at the "Trading Post" were all super friendly and very helpful with local info / directions. I think that Hard Labor Creek State Park is going to be our "go to" place for a regular escape into nature.

    Just enjoying the campfire.

Small state park with decent hiking trails. Swimming area is ok. Putt Putt golf is too expensive for course quality.

Do not walk barefoot in the sand unless you enjoy getting your feet sliced up and a bank breaking hospital bill. I had rubber flip flops on the whole time and told my family to wear theirs. Then, the whole beach area isn't open?? They cordoned off most of the water area, except for one sandbar and maybe 75 feet of water across from the entry sand area to the back area on the other side which narrowed to like 40 feet. The exposed sandbar which you were allowed to walk on had what looked like goose droppings all over it. There is very little space to play or wade without bumping into someone with it being cordoned off, and the section of water that is open just looks like a big bowl of muddy water because the cordoned off area is far away from the waterfall and streams that it doesn't get as much movement aside from people. Between the droppings all over the sandbar, broken glass, close proximity of multiple people in that tiny area, it's just asking for a visit to the hospital due to some infection. You do have to pay a fee per person and idk where that money goes, needs more maintenance. It's a shame, the beach area has potential. We will not be going back.

You can rent jet skis, go horseback riding, charter a fishing boat, rent a house boat, go camping or take a hot air balloon ride nearby. It was created by the completion of Buford Dam on the Chattahoochee River in 1956, and named for Confederate Army poet Sidney Lanier. Its primary purpose was for flood control and water supplies and has a water volume of about 1,049,400 acre-ft. The narrative will tell you its construction destroyed more than 50,000 acres of farmland and displaced more than 250 families, 15 businesses, and relocated 20 cemeteries along with their corpses in the process. But I want to pause here and dive a little deeper under the surface of its waters and introduce you to: [ OSCARVILLE, GEORGIA ] "The truth is rarely pure and never simple." ― Oscar Wilde Lake Lanier is partially located in Forsyth county. It is a county that prided itself on not having black residence so much that Oprah came to film an episode of her Emmy Award-winning talk show here in 1987 (trigger warning): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WErjPmFulQ0 The show makes mention that "no black person had lived in the county for 75 years", which was a direct reference to a predominantly African-American community known as Oscarville. It was home to 1,100 black people prior to a racial conflict in 1912 which was so brutally violent that it caused blacks to flee the county... even those who were landowners. "According to Elliot Jaspin, a historian and journalist quoted by the Digital Library of Georgia and the New Georgia Encyclopedia, only about 24 of the nearly 40 Black landowners in Forsyth County at the time were able to sell their land. The other properties have no record of sale, and some believe the abandoned land was simply taken by White residents." - The Times Oscarville began as a small farming town around 1870, but after so many fled the county in 1912, it was practically a ghost town. Those still claiming ownership of their land either had it seized or were "asked" to to forfeit their land to build the Buford Dam by Newport Dam Development according to an article published on April 6, 2021 by The Signal. Prior to the violence, Oscarville was actually known for its agricultural prowess in fighting off the boll weevil infestation that hindered many farm crops and enriching the soil with chicken feces. A technique that has been duplicated to this day to revive poor farming/gardening soil. "Facts do not cease to exist because they are ignored." ― Aldous Huxley [ MUST WATCH ] Link to Oscarville | The Town Submerged by Lake Lanier (Intrigued Mind): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ifMKfBO_R6s [ FINAL THOUGHTS ] Lake Lanier is a beautiful lake and a rich resource for Atlanta. It provides approx. 70% of the drinking water for Metro Atlanta as well as power, recreation and businesses. But there is more than what meets the eye as you look across its glistening surface. An entire town is buried by its waters and has been nearly forgotten, and the hard truth is this is not an isolated story. There are several other towns across the country who suffered the same fate. They include: Kowaliga (Benson), Alabama Seneca Village In New York City Susannah, Alabama and Vanport, Oregon The story of Lake Lanier and Oscarville will be featured in an upcoming TV series called Oscarville - Below the Surface.
