Don't get me wrong, the hotel itself was clean and comfortable. But WOW does poor service leave a bad taste in your mouth. The website states "late check-out is available upon request"... but DO NOT bother requesting. Because as the manager and other front desk agent said and I quote "absolutely no exceptions". Being that check out is at 10AM, an hour earlier compared to the other hotels in the area, I didn't think this would be this much of an issue. However, the amount of attitude and insolence that was received upon asking this question was downright uncalled for. I nicely asked and received a no. Knowing that nothing is for free in life, I even offered to pay a fee or a half-days-rate as I felt that would be fair... but was given a snippy "no" and essentially scolded. Having been educated and having years of experience in hospitality, I was utterly disgusted and ashamed by the treatment from the staff. I visit Oswego, NY frequently, as well as several friends. I'll be sure to make them aware of how they will be condescendingly treated upon choosing this establishment.

We chose the Boathouse for our stay last year and Wholleben Cabin for this last stay. Only 30 minutes from Syracuse but a world away in relaxation. Set on 850 acres we never saw another person we were able to hike in the woods, beautiful views of the lake and sit by the fire and enjoy some great conversation. Both places were fully renovated with top of the line fixtures while still keeping an old world charm. We are looking forward to trying the rest of the lodging options on our return visits. Quality: Had a truly wonderful experience at Vanderkamp. Surprised this secret is not out yet, as they seemed to think of everything. We stayed at their Langston Cottage, which was made for couples. A large indoor fireplace, a reading nook, and a soaking tub as the main features. More isolated than the other cabins, it felt like we were on our own in a winter wonderland. Despite the snow, we still managed to do quite a bit of hiking, and enjoy the silence of nature. Quantity: Huge property to explore. Value: Prices vary by timeframe and the trails are only for guests. Ambiance: Vanderkamp is a large private retreat area in upstate New York. Formerly a more traditional campsite, they have begun to renovate the cabins to provide for a luxury vacation experience. There are only four in-use cabins on the massive property. Miles of trails, a large lake with canoes available, and a small store provide all the fun and activities you need to never leave the property. Each cabin is designed for a different number of people and vacation, from couples to families to wedding parties. Crowd: Love the isolated feel, only saw one other guest during our stay. Service: While some of the trails could have used a bit more markings, it was part of the fun of exploring. Cabins were impeccable and well-maintained. Parking: Plenty of parking at each cabin and at the main center.

So frustrating but more so because it was the third set of doors that went to the restaurant. I went in and the sign said I should proceed to the right. Since the woman at the front desk was helping someone else I made the mistake of believing the sign. Stupid me! Fool me once shame on you, fool me twice shame on me. Found the restaurant and our group at 6:18. The ambiance was very nice. The waitress was professional and helpful and accommodating. She was great. The appetizers excellent. We had six main dishes. The pasta was not cooked to al dente, closer to underdone. The salmon was good and so was the risotto. The Osso Bucco was tough and hard to eat. Oddly the meat was falling off the bone but the meat was still tough. The meatloaf was horrible, worst meal I have had in years. The waitress was wise enough to not ask how the meal was. She did not inquire why I didn't want a box for my uneaten meal. The greens that came with the meatloaf were undercooked. The masked potatoes were delicious. My conclusion is that the food is inconsistent and the failure of the waitress to ask how things were or anything reflects that she has wisely learned not to ask. Again, she was great.

The location of this Inn was super close to restaurants and the Harbor(right in front of the Harbor), Sackets Harbor village is lovely also! I would definitely stay there again. We weren't expecting an incredible experience but we certainly got one! Judy was wonderful managing our reservation and warmly greeted us when we arrived. I like the concept of boutique hotels but sometimes find they can be too cramped or stuffy, not the Harbor House Inn. It's intimate but rooms are spacious so you feel like you can breathe. The room was absolutely amazing, farmhouse chic with a splash of coastal aesthetic. The soaking tub was to die for! The bed was very comfy. All the staff were friendly. Our room had a partial view of the lake, was a welcome surprise. The hotel is right in the center of town, perfect walking location to the battlefield, shops and eateries. All we wanted was a night away from the little ones but Harbor House Inn delivered a sweet experience. Highly recommend and will definitely return. It was worth the money spent!

First the the only air conditioner was in the bathroom and it was a small room size a/c so if you took a shower the a/c was in the bathroom making the rest of the room even warmer. Second problem was we used the microwave and the shut off the room circuit breaker for the fridge/TV/microwave leaving us with out all three from 10 pm until we left the next morning at 9. Owner is not on the premises and when he was called we were told that there was nothing that could be done since the breaker box was in another room which was occupied..

Most restaurants closed on Tues and Wed. Part-time manager, Karl, friendly and somewhat helpful, but doors need new, more secure locks, elec outlet in my son's room didn't work so no bedside light, neither of us had even plastic cups in the room, and mine didn't have a wastebasket, 1/3 roll of toilet tissue provided. Few amenities in rooms (no facial tissue, hair dryer, toothpaste; soap was size of butter pat), tho they were clean and newly painted w new mattresses. But the pillows were the worst I've ever seen, mine like torpedoes--neither of us could use them. Small refrigerator kept making loud noises all night. In a small room. If rate was $70 or $80/night, would be ok, but this price for what you get, even near the lake, in this tiny out of the way town in offseason is ridiculous. However, the Spaghetti Factory restaurant was really good. Other better restaurants were closed in early May.
