Spent a winter weekend at Vanderkamp in March. A perfect winter getaway, but also probably great in fall or summer, with luxury cabins and a private outdoor area to explore.
Quality: Had a truly wonderful experience at Vanderkamp. Surprised this secret is not out yet, as they seemed to think of everything. We stayed at their Langston Cottage, which was made for couples. A large indoor fireplace, a reading nook, and a soaking tub as the main features. More isolated than the other cabins, it felt like we were on our own in a winter wonderland. Despite the snow, we still managed to do quite a bit of hiking, and enjoy the silence of nature.
Quantity: Huge property to explore.
Value: Prices vary by timeframe and the trails are only for guests.
Ambiance: Vanderkamp is a large private retreat area in upstate New York. Formerly a more traditional campsite, they have begun to renovate the cabins to provide for a luxury vacation experience. There are only four in-use cabins on the massive property. Miles of trails, a large lake with canoes available, and a small store provide all the fun and activities you need to never leave the property. Each cabin is designed for a different number of people and vacation, from couples to families to wedding parties.
Crowd: Love the isolated feel, only saw one other guest during our stay.
Service: While some of the trails could have used a bit more markings, it was part of the fun of exploring. Cabins were impeccable and well-maintained.
Parking: Plenty of parking at each cabin and at the main center. read more
