My goal was very straightforward: I wanted to remain blonde while making my hair less high-maintenance. During my consultation, the stylist told me that if we highlighted my hair, it would turn orange. I disagreed based on my previous experiences with partial highlights, as I have had them done multiple times without this issue. We ultimately agreed on lowlights in the bottom section of my hair and highlights on the top. What I was not told was that my hair would essentially be completely dyed brown on the bottom or that lowlights would be placed throughout my hair, including areas where I specifically wanted to remain blonde. An $86 gloss was also used without me being told the price beforehand. The gloss significantly neutralized my hair, leaving me with a neutral brown base and icy highlights around my face. The end result is very different from what I discussed and wanted. Neutral tones wash me out, and I immediately disliked the result when I saw it. I also feel that the explanation that my hair would have been orange was not an adequate reason for the outcome. If there were concerns about the underlying tone, I would have expected those concerns to be discussed with me and for us to come up with an alternative that still aligned with what I wanted. Unfortunately, my experience after the service was also upsetting. The stylist's friendly demeanor changed noticeably during the appointment. When I immediately expressed that I hated the result, I felt that my concerns were diminished rather than genuinely listened to. She even referenced a story I had casually told her about having dark hair during my sophomore year of high school. That story was actually about how unhappy I had been with having dark hair and how my mom eventually got my hair highlighted as a birthday gift. Bringing it up in that moment felt particularly dismissive of what I was trying to communicate. I do appreciate that the salon has scheduled me for a redo on Tuesday. However, because I was so unhappy with the original service, I called and requested to have the correction handled by a different stylist. I understand that hair color can be complicated and that results aren't always perfectly predictable. What is most upsetting to me is that the service I received did not match what I understood we had agreed upon, I was charged $86 for a gloss without being informed of the cost beforehand, and when I expressed how unhappy I was, I did not feel heard. I hope the salon takes this feedback seriously, because I came in trusting them with my hair and left feeling extremely upset about the result.

It was quickly dried and styled in center or side parts, with lots of volume, lift and swing. Elegant and easy. Derek said he couldn't understand me. I should have left immediately. What I have now is an inexplicable cut, 2-5 " off, barely chin length, huge amounts of hair removed, wispy layers everywhere, and texturizing. He has activated a mass of waves and curls never seen before. From the front, the shape is a cartoonish wide diamond. From the sides, a fat wedge. This is the opposite of what is required for copious, European, fine, porous hair with a nape curl and minimal wave. Derek basically has created a White girl Afro. He somehow dried it beautifully, disguising the weird architectural structure by using a tiny brush on myriad narrow strands, drying them straight, and contorting them via elaborate manual sculpting techniques, product and nearly an hour of work. Maybe he planned to do twice-weekly blowdries on it. I have spent many days and dollars elsewhere experimenting with product, techniques and professional advice while attempting to cope. Derek pleasantly refunded the charges and apologized for the "inconvenience." This is far worse than inconvenient.

I spent about $150 for my cut and treatment, and then another $150 on salon products and tip ($300 total). You can definitely spend less or more depending on what level of stylist you book with.

My hair is medium auburn/brown naturally; but, 15 yrs ago, Billy created beautiful blonde color for me that no one else has ever achieved...and I've stuck with it. At least 1-2 times a week, someone I don't know compliments my hair. I'm grateful but I can take no credit. My healthy, shiny blonde is only possible because the people at PIN are not your ordinary stylists/colorists. Twice (once using a free gift card at The Four Seasons salon, and once due to an urgent scheduling conflict) I allowed non-PIN colorists do touch-ups on my hair; and what a mess they made. I went running to Billy to fix it (which he did, right away). A Jose Eber protege, Billy has, in my opinion, far exceeded Jose's talents. Like Jose, he has a lot of celebrity clientele; but I've watched him treat every client with the same generosity, kindness and respect, regardless of who they are or where they come from. He's a genuinely happy, friendly, funny, caring and interesting person...attentive and engaging with each of his clients. To my surprise, he remembers details of conversations that I've long since forgotten! I consider Billy a trusted friend, one that probably knows more about me and my life than most of my family members. Who needs a therapist when you can have such a great listener, friend and the perfect stylist/colorist all at the same time?! All of the staff at PIN are down-to-earth, good people. I've also seen Rainer for haircuts occasionally. The first time I saw him, many years ago, he asked about my time allowances and styling preferences, evaluated my facial shape, features and overall personal style, made some recommendations, and proceeded to transform my nondescript hairstyle into a masterpiece that I could actually recreate on my own. People think they're saving money by seeing a less expensive stylist/colorist at one of the salon chains, and maybe they are saving something; but the value of a great color/cut is priceless. It's no exaggeration when I say that, thanks to the exceptional expertise of the PIN team, I'm blessed with a better life. The time and money I've spent with Billy, Rainer and their team over the past 15 years, including my recent visits to the new PIN salon, are an investment that's still yielding immeasurable dividends; i.e., a wonderful home, family and marriage to "the one" who first fell in love with my long, blonde locks; a great job that, otherwise, would've gone to an equally skilled but more attractive person; terrific coworkers and friends; a lifestyle that includes international travel with friends, culture, great fun and adventure; and, more importantly, the initiative to make other self-improvements. Consequently, I enjoy a greater sense of well-being, confidence and self-assuredness that has inspired me to step outside of the ordinary, go new places, meet new people, and live a more fulfilling life. The staff at PIN have given me far more than my money's worth. They've helped me be a better ME! I have to make my appointments further in advance now because Billy and Rainer are so busy with their rapidly growing new business and clientele; but, I don't mind. I'm happy to see these guys and their staff enjoy the long over-due success they so richly deserve. I'd be lost without them. Thanks guys! HORRIBLE! I went with a friend and waited while she got her hair done. Tan was her stylist. He was very short tempered, constantly complained about wanting to just get her cut over with and told her multiple times to quit being so difficult. He was rude and condescending. All she did was ask a few questions about how she should layer her hair. She constantly told him that he was the expert and she just wanted some ideas. He grew rough with her and became more angry saying that she should be more clear and actually use the proper language for what she wanted in a haircut. She tried to apologize if she said something that made him upset, and said she was trying to ask him a question about what he though was best. She wanted to connect on where they miscommunicated so it wasn't weird when she came back to have him cut her hair. He flat out said that he would never cut her hair again, she wasn't welcome, and if it would get her to just be happy and quit complaining he wouldn't charge her. The owner was present and never stepped in to calm Tan down. He never apologized or acknowledged how Tan was raising his voice and making a scene. She never once raised her voice or acted mad in any way. I was shocked to see how rude, condescending, and out of line Tan was. I also can't believe the owner never acknowledged what happened, at least to apologize for the inconvenience and complete embarrassment. My friend was in tears when we left. Do not go near Pin Salon if you wish to ask or voice a question about your haircut without being humiliated. I had an amazing experience at PIN salon! Rainer is a dream stylist, I know I will be going to him for years to come. I have long, fine, wavy hair and I typically get nervous before cuts because I've had bad experiences before. Rainer put me at ease, he knows what he's doing, he is so talented, and above all he makes you feel like the only person getting their hair cut! I left the salon so completely in love with my "new" hair! He listened to what I wanted and exceeded my expectations, it was like I got hair surgery, a hair-lift ! Also, as a first time customer I got a free product from their salon! The salon is awesome- upon arrival I was immediately greeted by Sarah, checked in, and offered a beverage. Everything was on time, clean, and everyone was super friendly. Anna washed my hair and anticipated my needs. They have comfortable chairs and nice natural lighting coming in the front. As a girl who really cares about her long hair, few things make me feel prettier than a haircut I can't wait to show off!! I have been a client for over 5 years and will never go anywhere else. Billy is my colorist & Rainer is my cut&stylist. They're both miracle workers!! I am beyond happy and feel beautiful every single time I see them. I go very 5 weeks and live 1 hour away from the Dallas salon - the distance will never stop me from coming - they are, that FABULOUS! I do have some NEW wonderful news to add to the already Awesome PIN Salon.... I was in a pinch last month & desperately needed a cut before going out of town for Valentines. Cam (Cameron) a new stylist at PIN Salon (experienced stylist from the Austin area) was the only one available that day, so I got the courage to let him cut my hair - which had only been touched by Rainer the last 5 years. WOW - I was blown away!! He did such an amazing job cutting & styling my hair!! I was so happy with him, I even posted a selfie on facebook. Best salon and team I have found in Dallas! I never write reviews but I have to give this place the praise it deserves! Let me start by saying you need Rachel for color and Rainer for cut! Rachel is fantastic about blending colors so they look natural, so if you want that natural sun kissed look she is your girl! The color never turns brassy (even after 3 months in between coloring!) I actually had to debate getting my hair colored again because it still looked so great! As for Rainer, if you have long thick hair and are a length snob he's your guy! He will keep the length but has a way of make your hair come to life with movement that requires very little maintenance (it doesn't hurt that if feels 5 pounds lighter either). My hair grew out nicely and the only reason I knew I needed another cut was because of how heavy my hair was. I have been to many salons, including Fredrick fekkia, the box salon, and some other in uptown but pin salon is where it is at! I'm so glad I have my salon! read more

PIN Salon is a fantastic new salon for some hair veterans. I have been a client of Rainer's for approx 10 years and a client of Billy's for 15 years. Even while living 1400 miles away I would set up appointments that corresponded to my visit to Dallas. What I appreciate most about Billy and Rainer is that they are knowledgeable and patient. I am a self-confessed hair idiot. I never know what I'm doing. They take the time to counsel with you to learn about your lifestyle, the amount of time you normally spend, etc and come up with something that will compliment how you live your life. The other great thing about these two is that they take the time to train others and recognize talent in the others that they work with. For that reason you really can't go wrong with seeing anyone in the salon. This is a high-end salon with all the trends, bells and whistles but without any of the attitude. Taylor and Tabitha SAVED ME!!!! I had a hair disaster when I walked into this salon and this cut & color duo truly did incredible work!! Now, when I say it was a disaster, that is an honest understatement. If you can imagine an ombre gone bad, just multiply it by 10! (and yes, I got that bad ombre "professionally" done). I had never been to this salon before, so when I walked in, the pure shock of what my former hair dresser did to my hair had everyone in the salon wanting to help, or at least wanting to watch how their team was going to be able to fix the 'throw-up of color' on my head! Not only is this crew super talented, the owner, Billy is fantastic and so incredibly nice! Fitting me into a crazy Saturday schedule with a moments notice was something most salons would not do. I give PIN Salon my highest rating in every category! I have been going to Rachael for about 4 - 5 years and followed her right to her own salon at PIN. Rachael has never once done anything but perfect work. She doesn't seem to have those up and down days - she is always consistent. She recommended I get my hair cut by Emma about a year ago and I am still going to Emma!! Emma is an "outside the box" stylist. In other words, she doesn't just do the same thing every time. I am extremely picky about my haircuts so if I like my hair that says a lot about Emma! Also, everyone else in the salon is nice and super helpful. I always feel comfortable. Lastly, Reiners has also cut my hair before. There is a reason you need to book with Reiners several months in advance and that is because he is probably the best stylist in Dallas. My naturally curly hair had evolved into a dried-out extremely over-processed mess and I was at my wit's end. I had been using a pair of stylists at another salon and was totally frustrated - my hair looked great the day it was done but that was it. A friend recommended Rainer and Rachel and at the time, they were at two different salons. I was really pleased from the get-go and followed them to other salons and was so happy for them when they opened Pin. Now it's easy to wrestle my curls into a straight style and even when the humidity strikes, it still looks good. I make the trip to Dallas from Waco to go to this salon every 5-6 weeks for amazing cut & color. It is worth every inconvenience of the trip to me to go here. I literally keep a standing appt & work my schedule around it. Kelsey & Rainer take such good care of me & I'm ALWAYS thrilled with the results. During Holidays they are extremely busy & they stay late & book extra days so they can take care of all of their customers. I know there are many women, who make the trek from Waco to go here. One of my favorite things about coming here other than my hair looks amazing is the relationships that I've formed with them. It's just fun! I just had the best haircut and styling yesterday by Eva! She is truly a A++ rated stylist. She began my service by shampooing/conditioning my hair with an added scalp massage. It was not rushed and was a nice length of time. She carefully looked and assessed my hair for how best to begin the cut. Eva is warm and has a bubbly personality who really listens to her clients. This was my second appointment with her and I left with a beautiful cut and style. I can't begin to tell you how many people compliment or ask who does my hair on a weekly basis. I have healthy middle of my back length blonde thick hair. The only way it has stayed this way over the past 15 years is due to the elite service and use of only the best products on the market. From the moment you arrive, you already know that PIN salon is special. Super clean, modern, and classy. I know one of the owners of the salon, Billy, a renowned color expert and cut specialist. The friendly and engaging staff immediately make you feel at home. I have had my hair cut, colored, and fixed by Taylor and Tan and never once have had a bad experience. In fact, I have recommended all my friends and family go to Taylor to have their color elevated. The staff is incredibly professional and very talented. I have been seeing Billy for my blonde locks for at least 7 years now! He is a one of a kind hair artist! I am beyond thrilled for he and Rainer as they embark on this wonderful new journey at Pin Salon. From the moment you walk in the door you are greeted with a smile and complimentary refreshment while you wait. The whole salon is very unique, edgy and has a modern feel! My favorite thing is the relaxing body hugging shampoo chairs. They are hard to leave from at the end to say the least. Taylor is absolutely brilliant with color! I have seen her now for almost a year, and having moved away from Dallas, I still go to her. She's very knowledgeble in keeping hair healthy and is accomodating with advice on taking the best care of it. I went from bright red to light blonde, (pretty much the most drastic change ever,) and I couldn't have been happier with the results! Show her any pinterest picture and you'll have that color. I love this salon!!! Rainer is the best stylist I've ever been to! I've been going to him for 14 years! When people ask me... "You drive all the way to Dallas from Ft Worth to get your hair done?"... Well I say, "of course ! He is awesome AND he does the Dallas Cowboys Cheerleaders hair?!!" Rainer's wife Rachel is a FANTASTIC colorist and has many followers , including me. If you're looking for an AMAZING colorist Rachel is the one to go to! She is extremely talented and knows exactly what will make you look awesome! Definitely takes the time to listen to what ideas you have and truly cares about what she does. Her husband Rainer is an OUTSTANDING stylist! When I go see them both he comes over to me to talk about my cut before Rachel starts on the color so that all three of us will be on the same page. I've been seeing Rachael for blonde highlights for years, she is both creative and consistent and the result is always beautiful and natural-looking. Emma just recently cut my hair - she cleaned up my layers and did a great job! Cam, another stylist, blew out my hair for a weekend event. He really took into consideration the texture of my hair for the products he used and the unique blowout look he created. I have long, very thick hair - and it is rare that I come by colorists and stylists as professional and thorough as those at PIN Salon. read more

Instead of actually dying all my hair blonde and taking the time he had me sit in purple shampoo for like 15 minutes so it looked okay when I left (and tipped) but the next day I could tell not much had been done. I liked that Gwan walked me through every step and asked to use hair products before she use them. I'm honestly easy and doesnt care too much because I want to allow the hair stylist to be creative. Finding the location was hard because they dont have a sign outside big on top of the entrance. There's a sign on the window but you'll miss it driving by a busy street. The building is green, its right between the gym and Houndstooth. You can park in the street or behind the gym. I love that they bring their dogs to work. The dogs are so chilled and precious.
