I was so happy to discover there is a Colombian spot in the Buford area, since moving here, we weren't able to find anything close and we kept traveling to Doraville whenever we craved it. As much as I wanted to love this place, we left very disappointed. First, this is a small restaurant, so it can get very crowded. There were only two servers, which with everything going on is understandable, but plan accordingly and don't come here if you're on a rush. You'll end up being late like I was. Main reason why my family and I go to Colombian restaurants is for Bandeja Paisas. This is a traditional dish of Colombia served with grilled steak, rice, beans, pork rinds, sausage, egg, plantains, arepa and avocado. Pimentón did not disappoint in that aspect. Their Bandeja Paisa had all the ingredients we love and expect the dish to have. But the main issue was the inconsistency. I'll explain... My party of 5 ordered 5 bandeja paisas. You'll expect all 5 dishes to come out the same way... right? Well that wasn't the case. Some plates were missing plantains, some others were missing the arepas, some others got everything, but then some ingredients were not cooked properly. My dad's plate even got sent back because it has a bug in it. A BUG. In my opinion, the food was good but not worth all the inconveniences nor the price. Forgot to mention their prices are pretty steep compared to other Colombian establishments, which I wouldn't have minded if the service/food was better. In conclusion, my family and I won't be returning. Even though it is closer from home, we'd rather drive for some food Colombian food. Me explico...

The place is very cozy and the food was great! Big portions of food and the natural juices were delicious. The service was fast and very nice!

So the service was amazing for us. We were a party of 20. They were so attentive and sweet. We're got empanadas which are good. Had a little too much potatoes than meat but still good. The ahi was yummy. We also ordered jugo de Mora with milk and oh so yummy and big. Got the bandeja paisa which was good but a bit bland sadly. Needed some more flavor. Ordered pandeonos and bunuelos which were amazing!!!!

I was greeted at the door with a welcome smile and handshake--nice touch. Because of the tile and space, it can be noisy. But it is clean and comfortable. Friendly staff. Appealing menu. Today I just ordered the chicken on a stick & a side of rice & beans. I didn't have time to sit and eat a full meal. Since the skewers were listed under "fast food," it's disappointing how long they took to get to me. Also I paid $2.00 for a teeny bowl of beans and $2.00 for a teeny dish of rice. Since both items are ridiculously inexpensive to make, I would think they'd pass that savings on to the customer. The skewers themselves were priced well. They were a bit dry for my taste, but still good. The skewers also had onion and red bell pepper on them. I love the green spicy salsa. It isn't as spicy as the place across the highway that has a similar salsa, but it was perfect for my taste.

    Bandeja Paisa! Absolutely amazing!!!

The parking lot in the front was completely empty. Not a good sign on a Saturday night. It gave me pause and I considered trying a different place, but the one I checked out prior to this one was closed for repairs, and the one I tried prior to that one I literally could not find, so I decided to try it anyway. When I got there, it was empty, and I don't mean empty as in "the last few customers just left". I mean empty like "it's been dead all day". The staff were both sitting in the front chilling out. I thought, "Okay, so they've been a bit slow today." When I walked in the door, both the staff went in the back. Huh? I could understand the chef going into the back, but the wait staff?? She came back out front a few minutes later. I waited for her to direct me and when she didn't, answer minute or two later I asked, "Should I just sit anywhere?" She just nodded. Okey dokey. The first table I walked to still had food on the table from where it was not cleaned properly previously. The dishes and such were gone, but the staff had not washed it properly and you could see food on the tabletop. Yuk. I chose a different table, and sat. The waitress brought over the menu and a small basket with utensils, a straw and omelet green salsa. No chips or anything for the salsa, so I figured she would be bringing something for it later. I asked the waitress something about the menu items and honestly, she acted like I should know all this already. I ordered the mini bandeau paisa which was very tasty and I ate it all with no leftovers. It was served on a metal plate and I'm fairly certain it was warmed over, but it was the type of dish that is a bit better when warmed over so that was fine. I thought the waitress just plain didn't like me for whatever reason. Sometimes restaurants are not happy to see a single customer all by themselves, but about ¾ of the way through my meal, another couple came in and they got the same treatment. Mind you, the three of us at two tables were the ONLY customers in the restaurant. I saw no takeout orders or anything. Yet, the waitress acted like we were really taking it out of her to have her do her job. She served everything, but I don't think she gave even one smile the entire time. Honestly, even though the food was good, it was not good enough to make up for the feeling that I was not wanted in the restaurant. It's unlikely I will go back.

I think they were trying to push alcohol and their mixed drinks more, but we don't drink and I had kid with me so, water was all we were having. Over all we will be back. Luckily I got the bright idea to try to kill two birds with one stone and grab some grub while catching what was left of the game. Since I've been to Colombia quite a few times I figured I'd compare their cuisine to what I'm used to seeing and tasting when actually traveling out that way. Sure enough they were showing the game on a nice big screen with a couple of other folks in there with me on a Sunday afternoon. Wasn't packed wasn't completely empty just like I like it. Their menu actually has both what you typically see in a Colombian restaurant in Medellin or Bogota while adding a lot of other options that you might not see at a typical Colombian restaurant in Colombia. The food actually turned out to be tastier than expected. The salad was very fresh...freshness and simplicity being signature adjectives used in describing good Colombian fare. The Pechuga de Limon...Lemon Chicken Breast was tasty with the right amount of tang and salt without being overwhelming. Rice and maduros (Sweet Plantains) were good as well. Meal ran me $14 which was the only part that did not remind me of Colombia lol. But quite fair for Atlanta. This place is in a plaza where you dont have to worry about parking. Service was also very good. And as a bonus I discovered that they have rumbas on Friday and Saturday nights til 4am. I am quite excited to partake in that! Maybe it will feed my frequent hunger to get on a plane and salsa outside the states. To be continued...

I tried the passion fruit juice without sugar (it's good they give you the option to choose if you'd like sugar or not), another star for that. They brought us chips and salsa on a side, which made me feel like I was in a Mexican restaurant. If the owner could change that for the Colombian "pan de bono" it would be the cherry on top, nothing more Colombian that a good pan de bono. I ordered chicken with mushroom sauce that was delicious. I substituted vegetables for the rice. The beans weren't tasty at all, I would cook them with natural broth, more veggies and spices. The server was friendly, polite and was attentive, another star because of him. Keep up the hard work guys, I know you've only been open for 6 month. I'm sure you'd get better.
