#62/2023 Located along the eastern shore of North Carolina…read moreJust North of Kinston North Carolina about 20 minutes is your classic roadside grocery store Cafe. These are your classic general stores with hot plate lunches and breakfast served throughout the day It's a small little place in a small little town just outside of Ayden a industrial town. They no longer have diesel pumps of course have gas and alcohol beer sales etc. Big on people traveling home or to work locals. they were pulled up years ago but they do have truck parking a lot of local truck drivers Park and leave their stuff here. It has a very strong following of locals every now and then a traveler will pass through but for the most part this is very big with the locals. I was hungry I saw the truck parking I pulled in I came in and used the bathroom it was clean this is an old building. They had a hot deli bar with plate lunches that were just getting finished it would be about another hour if you wanted Burger hamburgers and more stuff cooked till the dinner lady comes in and Cooks things ready until 5:00 or 6:00 p.m.. They had a still nice warm big giant chopped hamburger and brown gravy I got some nice hot french fries with brown gravy and it was very good. This is the kind of place where if you're a trial or you probably wouldn't pay twice a look and just Cruise right by headed up towards the main city. But it's classic little roadside stores that keep small little towns thriving.

We were belatedly celebrating mom's 84th birthday, and she had not been to Yoder's in 10-15 years…read more Today was my first time. My aunt and cousin joined in on the fun, and it was my cousin's first time as well. Some in our party got the meatloaf, and exclaimed over how delicious it was. I got the parm chicken with rice, which was a little dried out and disappointing. Enter Yoder's cabbage and Dutch potato sides to save the day! Both were absolutely delicious! The cabbage was perfectly cooked and well-seasoned. I was delighted to find they were spicy, with visible red pepper flakes. The Dutch potatoes were creamy and cheesy...a new fave! The roll with the cinnamon butter was a treat indeed. And the tea? We like ours half & half...delivered in big cups with extra ice just the way we like it! I also got an English Toffee Latte to go...and it did not disappoint. Neither did the waitstaff, who were friendly, engaging and ensured our food was delivered with a smile. We left with slices of chocolate, coconut cream, and pecan caramel pie, a loaf of sourdough, and a mocha brownie treat for later. Ohhhh, and a ginormous cinnamon roll, cause why not?! The interior of Yoder's restaurant is a rustic place with a lovely shop to wander through while you wait to be seated. They have a lovely bird in the store that will sing you a song and tell you what the cat and the rooster say. So charming! All in all, I've been hearing about Yoder's for years and years...and it did not disappoint! Can't wait for a return visit!

Our party called ahead the day before visiting the restaurant for Wednesday reservations. We were…read moretold to arrive around 9am the next morning. After arriving a few minutes early we were told it would be "a bit" before they could seat us. "A bit" turned out to be more than an hour and even then they sat us at multiple tables throughout the restaurant. After being seated, we were promptly ignored. Fifteen more minutes went by before our sullen, unpleasant server took our drink orders and eventually our breakfast orders. She was not only extremely slow and inattentive, but blatantly disrespectful to one member of our party by rolling her eyes and making gestures when she thought we couldn't see her. Once our order was placed, we waited then waited more. We had decided to leave if our food had not arrived by 12pm and go to Bojangles in Vanceboro, but at 11:50, over three hours after arriving, our food finally showed up. My omelet was enormous and overflowing with ground sausage. It was OK, but would have been better with less sausage. My shredded hash browns were cold. The biscuit that accompanied the omelet was cold and hard. My dining companion liked her french toast, but noted her eggs, though properly prepared over medium, were cold. Same goes for her home fries. However, the buttery syrup, served with her french toast, was served warm and was absolutely amazing. Wow! It made my biscuit edible and was the best part of our meals. The restaurant is attached to a hardware store in a rural part of Craven County. It definitely has a country vibe and was spotless. Incredibly slow and disrespectful service combined with OK-at-best food make it difficult to recommend Voder's Dutch Pantry in any capacity to anyone.

I have not had the pleasure of eating my way through their menu, since tonight was only my second trip. But I will say that each time I've gotten ice cream from here it's been really good. My husband tried the "Heath Bar Blast" and said it was better than what Dairy Queen makes. If you're looking for a ceiling-to-floor list of frozen treats that drives you insane when trying to make a decision, keep driving; I'm sure you'll find a Dairy Queen or something of the sort 30 minutes east on 70. This place is more of a mom-n-pop shop, which is a pleasant reminder to seasonal travelers that "The small town of Kinston is here!" Some amenities: several patio tables with umbrellas, a couple of cafe tables and chairs inside, and the best part....a drive thru! My only gripe is that it's cash only. I'm surprised to find that this place wasn't "on the map" yet. Glad I could change that :-)
