I picked up some chocolate that sounded good and the sweet lady who worked there said the owner makes it herself. It was divine, plus I got a little octopus soap dish that I put in my bathroom that went really well. This commissary has great hours; their weekend hours are not as limited as some other commissaries…read moreand they open at 9am on Tuesdays and Saturdays and they close at 7pm on weekdays. I'm really impressed with the selection. The produce is lacking but that's par for the course at commissaries. There's a Walmart and a Food Lion just off base anyway. The organic section is awesome though. They carry a TON of different types of flours (tapioca, rice, almond, fava bean, gluten-free mix, etc) and cereals and some other unexpected products like flaxseed and xanthan gum. They also carry organic raw sugar in the regular baking products aisle. They don't have as many self checkouts as some other commissaries, but they have two self checkout lines with higher item count limits than usual (40 items and 100 items). The lines are consistently longer but the trade off is that you can still bag yourself even with a full cart.

The produce section was not as plentiful as what we are accustomed to. Do Coastal Carolinians eat veggies? If so, I'd like to know where they shop for them. There were only 2 people running the check-out lines, both lines were wrapped all through the front of the store. We opted for the self-checkout, despite having a crap-ton if items. As expected, we were quicker than the folks in the line, even with a register that help needing assistance "your item does not match the weight, assistance is on the way". Geez! Then, when we asked about it, the person working there (who after further research was the manger and has a ton of complaints) flat-out told us the "manager" wasn't there, acted like we were inconveniencing them, and told us to "Move along." The whole interaction gave major gaslighting vibes. If you're automatically adding tips without customers knowingly selecting one, that's not okay.
