I have never felt the need to leave a review on any business before however this experience left me needing to. Do not go to this piercer. I was looking for a place close by to change my cartilage piercing to a hoop. I didn't check the reviews because I thought something as simple as a jewelry change wasn't needed but I was very wrong. When I started he proceeded to not sanitize his hands nor did he put on gloves. I sat on the table with my hand holding onto the side just sitting normally as he proceeded to change my jewelry I felt him press his entire genitalia against my hand and kept it there the entire time as he changed my jewelry I couldn't process what was happening I wanted to be in denial. I was too shocked to take any action In the moment. I didn't know what to think, my mind was too cloudy to fully process or do anything. Not to mention I think this guy rents out his own place to be one on one with his customers and that's why he doesn't work with a studio. He also attempted to "straighten" my healed piercing which left it inflamed and irritated afterwards. This man is a crook and a fraud and most of all a predator if he's going to get his license revoked it's going to be done by me as I am taking legal matters. He is a terrible piercer. read more

I first time I met John was when I got my nose piercing 8 years ago. I was impressed with how clean, sterile and nice the office was. He was very careful and gentle when piercing my nose too! Years later I decided to get my conch pierced and my mom got her helix and we had the same amazing experience. Now years later I brought my daughter so she could get her first earrings and John didn't disappoint. He was very sweet and careful with my baby. TLDR; this piercer is not only abusing his position and making unconsented sexual touch, but is also condescending, incompetent, and unskilled. Do not give him your business, his pricing is cheap for a reason. The largest issue with this piercer is that he abused his position of power to slowly and increasingly make contact with me in a way that I obviously did not want nor consent to. He had one chance to apologize and you can see by his response below he is unremorseful and if fact just blames it on being born a man. Let me say this, I have been pierced in the same body part by another male and at NO POINT did I have to physically move my body away from him and especially his crotch. Mind you, my knee, sir is much farther away from my earlobe than standing by my side. It takes an imbecile to think that you can justify slowly running your crotch across my knee in any capacity. You are an old, incompetent, horny man with shaky hands who chose to stand where your crotch would continue to have contact with my leg. Not to mention, bud, but I now have your disgusting body in my memory, it's not so big that you just can't help hitting people with it. You are scum. This is not a one-time occurrence either. Other people have come forth and spoken up, and I will be making sure this message moves out to other platforms. Secondary to violating me, he's an incompetent old man. If you don't care or don't think he'll violate you, I can promise you won't get a good piercing either. If your intention was to violate me, the LEAST you could do is give me good lasting piercings. To start, this man cannot tell the difference between a piercing and a freckle. He told me I already had 3 piercings on my ear. Maybe he could've seen better if he wasn't hellbent on keeping his crotch on my knees. Not sure. I asked for 4 closed piercings to be repierced. 2 out of those 4 were repierced, while the other 2 have my former piercings next to them. Correct me if I'm wrong but 50% is a failing percentage is it not? He also didn't check the old piercings to make sure they were fully closed. I've had my first set of lobes repierced before and they verified, before working on permanently altering my body. I got 2 additional piercings on each lobe and the spacing is messed up because he believes that basing piercings off of "anatomical landmarks" is a fool-proof method. Anyway, the fool doesn't realize that people are not perfectly symmetrical and you need to compare the ear placements to both ears at the same time and not just one ear. I also got a nostril piercing, and due to the placement and jewelry choice, I developed a piercing bump. I was not informed that the placement was considered high, which would require higher maintenance and if closer to cartilage. I don't think he informed me because I don't think he is a knowledgeable piercer. In fact, as stated, I think he's incompetent. To have a field of expertise and not be able to articulate any additional information to your clients is abysmal. I had to have a better piercer switch out my jewelry from the hook shape to a straight stud and add spacers. Do you know what those are, John? I should also mention when he pierced my nostril he pinched my whole upper lip for some reason. Didn't love that, hurt a lot and was unnecessary. Disgusting man that takes no responsibility for his disgusting actions or his piss-poor service. read more

(PLEASE TAKE THE TIME TO READ THIS IF YOU ARE CONSIDERING GETTING A SEPTUM HERE) If I could give this place less than a one star, I would. Not only for the poor piercing jobs I have had here, but also for the owner's attitude and customer service skills (or lack thereof). The first time I went here, I was 16 and got my belly button pierced for my birthday. My dad took me and I was super excited. When it was time to get my piercing done, I laid on the table and as soon as he pierced me, said "oops, you're not gonna like that". He told me that he pierced me far too shallow and that there wasn't enough skin in the piercing. Rather than sending me home for it to heal and piercing it later once it healed, he went ahead and redid it and caused a lot of trauma to the tissue. I had the piercing in for two years and took care of it well but the piercing never healed correctly because of how he re-pierced it immediately. Fast forward to a few months ago, my best friend got her left nostril pierced and I decided that I wanted to get a new piercing as well. I had been wanting to get my septum done for a while and decided to make an appointment, thinking that my previous experience must have been a fluke. However, I admit that I didn't do much research on his septum work beforehand and quickly learned that I should not have gone to him. When I went, I was alone and showed him some pictures of what I wanted. The septum rings I showed him were small and the top half was hidden in the nose since they were pierced in the "sweet spot". He did not feel around in my nose for the spot, he just put the clamp onto the cartilage near the bottom of my nose and pierced it. When he showed me how it looked afterwards, I told him that it wasn't what I wanted and that you could see the entire ring in the middle of my face. He then talked down to me like I was a child and said that if I wanted to get a piercing I should want it to be visible and that this is how it is supposed to look. After he threw the fact that "he is a nurse and knows best" in my face, I felt defeated and decided to pay and leave, hoping that I could possibly put in new jewelry when it healed. He did give me a smaller ring for later, which I appreciated, but even the new ring wouldn't help how low and crooked the piercing was. When I got home, my whole family told me how awful it looked and I decided to do some research. I found a lot of similar stories online of people getting theirs done incorrectly and then getting them redone years later at a different place and getting them done right. I learned that his technique and approach to the piercing was incorrect (I was sitting up for the piercing rather than laying down and he didn't feel for the sweet spot) and decided to go to his yelp and see if other had the same issue with septum's specifically. They did. The images I saw looked just like mine and I am now convinced that he should not offer septum's if he cannot do them correctly. I sat down and sent him a very polite message explaining that I wanted a refund for the piercing (I had seen him offer it to another botched septum on yelp) and we set an appointment. I did have another piercer take it out the day before because I was afraid it might get caught on something while I slept and rip out due to how low it was, and when I told him that and asked if I could still have a refund he said yes, if I brought the jewelry back to him. I understood the unopened smaller ring being brought back, but he also wanted the one that had been in my nose already. I can only assume he planned to reuse it which I don't believe should be allowed. Anyways, when I went in for my refund I brought a friend with incase he tried to talk down to me again (which he did) so she could offer support. When I arrived, he took the jewelry back to his piercing room and then came out to give me the refund. As he was typing on his iPad, he started to say how actually my piercing was right and when I told him that another piercer had looked at it and told me it was done incorrectly, he started to rant on about how piercers that work in tattoo studios don't know what they are doing and don't even have to go through any kind of schooling (untrue). He then said that anyone can pay the state of Texas and be allowed to pierce, and I feel inclined to believe he knows this because he did it. I soon got tired of arguing with him and took my refund and left, but he will definitely not be getting any more business from me and I suggest you follow suit. read more

I woke up this morning and my cartilage helix piercing was very swollen and irritated. The backing of the piercing was swallowed entirely by my skin so I emailed some piercing shops that I searched up, asking if they could take it out and replace it with a longer bar so that it could heal better. John responded fast saying that he said he could "absolutely" change the piercing out. I went there with my friend a few hours later & he just pulled it out without telling me that he wasn't going to put another one in. He also kept mentioning that the person that pierced my cartilage didn't know what they were doing, but I know she did because I got it pierced at an APP certified piercing shop. Anyways, I knew that taking the piercing out completey could trap the infection inside because many professional piercers have told me that and I had done some research about it. He even said I had a "small infection." Most reputable piercers will know that you are not supposed to take ANY infected piercings out because it could close the infection inside which could turn it into a much worse situation. Knowing that he was a professional piercer and registered nurse, I assumed that he would have some knowledge about that, but he just pulled it out and told me AFTER he pulled it out that he wasn't going to put another one in because it "needed to heal." So then I asked him a few questions because I was obviously very worried and I mentioned that the infection could get trapped inside. He said that it was possible, but that I could go to the doctor and they would " just prescribe me antibiotics." At this point, I could tell he was getting frustrated and he kept repeating that he was a registered nurse.. I stayed calm, and eventually left. I looked in the mirror in the bathroom right after, and it was a bloody and gooey mess. He sent me out without any proper cleaning afterwards or even just a tissue or gauze to stop the bleeding. So I went to another piercer after to get advice and he told me that John really should not have done that and then he put tea tree oil on a tissue cleaned it for me really well & told me to message him with any more concerns or issues that may arise and told me come to him anytime when it heals. John did not charge me anything for taking it out, which was appreciated. The removal was also relatively painless, but I just wish he had told me that he was not going to put in a longer bar/piercing BEFORE he removed mine. Overall, I did not have a good experience here. This is just basically a copy and paste from my google review, I just need it to be seen because what I experienced was so bad. I made a Yelp account just because it was that bad. Please for the love of God, do not come here. I came in for a jewelry change, did not get that because he was incapable of doing it. If the jewelry bar is too short, why carry it. He was not gentle at all, I have 12 piercings, I know what a piercing change should be like. I left with my piercing bleeding and felt pain for 6 hours. He gave outdated advice and was very shaky. He also didn't wear gloves at all, I don't care if it's just a jewelry change that is so unsanitary. There was another review I saw after my appointment doing some research, he did a GENITAL piercing without gloves. What really got me was the weird "compliment" he gave which was "You smell very nice". That isn't a comment you usually give strangers, it's a really almost intimate remark. It didn't help I am a young female and this is an older man almost leaning on me. I read a review once were he also gave another younger girl a compliment and she was also uncomfortable by that. He defended himself and believed he wasn't in the wrong, so if he defends himself again, I won't be surprised. But wait it only gets worse! John kept dropping the jewelry, and one of the times he dropped it he said he dropped it in my lap. I heard it fall on the floor behind me and didn't feel it fall in my lap. Well that day I was wearing pants that awkwardly crease above the genital area and he took it upon himself to touch and move around my pants to look into that crease. I have never felt more violated in my entire life. Just ask, consent isn't hard. It's common sense to not touch people near their private parts, just saying. Oh wait there's more. I had a really hard time finding his full name on his website, John Cushman. One google search and the first two photos are of Brad Pitt that link to his website that tell us about what he has done, and does do now, etc, whatever. Not only were there so many misspellings, that's just straight up impersonation. I don't know how believable anything is on that website. If I could give zero stars I would. Please go to one of the tattoo shops, I haven't been to any of them since I'm new to Denton but I can guarantee they will 100% be better than this place. I know he will probably defend himself to the end after this review, but it doesn't take away from the fact that what he did violated me so much. read more

I love this place! I went this week to get my conch pierced and my experience was 10/10. Everything was sterilized, and he did a great job. I usually pass out after piercings but I didn't feel a thing. Price was great too! Highly recommend coming here for piercings instead of dark ages or over priced tattoo shops in Denton. So my best friend an I decided to get our VCH piercings done together. We went and had John do them 2 days ago. For me I thought the place was really clean, John was very professional and answered any questions that we had. I also got my nipples pierced and I did not have any pain with the piercings. My friend didn't even know that I had one side done when I told her to come check it out. Lol! Since the piercings I have followed the after care instructions to the T and things seem to be going very well. I am happy with my choice. Decided to have my septum pierced here due to the price and it seemed legit... I was very excited and after it was done I just glanced at it in the mirror and thought it was great until I was able to closely examine it. I became concerned it was too low so messaged a previous piercer I had been to and she confirmed it was in fact way too low..I will not be returning to Piercing Denton honestly it seemed sketchy to begin with but I trusted all the good reviews. please do not be like me and go cheap especially with your septum the septum is VERY difficult to pierce correctly and as soon as he said it was "easy" I should have ran thankfully it could have been much worse. please do extensive research on piercers for a piercing as complex as a septum and honestly just consider spending more than $25 and going to someone fully immersed in their profession of piercing. This guy seems to be legit online however when I took my girlfriend for a vhp he was very condensing and rude. I asked a question which I already knew the answer because this isn't the first time we have done this. Instead of professional yes or no answer he proceeded to trash every tattoo and piercing shop saying how anyone could get a license but they don't do it right.... finally after his condescending rant he answered. This cat has about 20 framed certificates on his wall and talked about being an rn... he was wearing nasty dirty scrubs with stains all over his belly. He talked to my girlfriend like she was clueless and when I backed her up on something we both know is legit he said to me "is that your professional medical opinion?" Granted the only piercing experiences I've had have been Wal-Mart and Claire's, but with that said this was genuinely the best piercing experience I've had. I got my navel piercing done here a few weeks ago with one of my friends. John was AMAZING. I was nervous about getting my belly button done and I wanted it done right. When I found John I immediately wanted to use him because of his medical knowledge. My piercing has been healing amazing with no challenges at all. I highly recommend him. I drove 40 min but it's so worth it! He also makes sure the barbell is the exact right size for your body. I'm 5'10 and my friend is 5'3 so we had different size barbells. Worst place to get a piercing done ever!!! I've had much better service and qualify at tattoo parlors. I got my medusa pierced about a month ago, and he had to pierce me twice because the first time he messed up some how. I got sick from the immense amount of pain I was put under, and I've never had that happen for any of my 13 tattoos or 12 piercings. Then I went by the other day as a walk in to get it changed out, and no one was there. It was within the business hours posted on the door and online, and there wasn't any notice saying otherwise. So I called and told him what happened, and we set up an appointment for today at 10am. Well go figure this guy is again a no show. I don't have 30 minutes to wait around for you to decide you want to get off your lazy ass and do your job. Do not go here. Go to one of the many beautiful tattoo parlors in this city.
