The Ox Cheek & Venison Pie drowned in Gravy
    Rizwan P.

One of the quintessential eats for any Gooner! Nothing better to start your day with than a good ol pie drowned in gravy before heading to the pubs nearby to get ready to cheer on The Arsenal! Never been disappointed by any pie here, and now they have vegan options! However, one of my favorites will always be the Ox Cheek & Venison, even though the Ox is no longer with us. Everything is packed with flavor, the (non-vegan) pie crust is full of buttery goodness, and the salty gravy makes everything just that much better - especially after a loss. This eatery is a staple for any visiting fan to the Emirates. Small shop with cheap eats (£7.50!) right on the street. It doesn't get any better than this!

Amazing pie. Not huge but oh what flavours! Paired with mash and peas it's an excellent meal. I had beef & Guinness while my husband had the version pie. Both had a lovely portion of beef, which is always the main point of pie! Lovely smooth mash and a gravy to die for. £5 for pie, £6.50 with mash! If in the area highly recommend

The Arsene Wenger, chicken and broccoli. In Arsene I trust. Tasty!

I don't have much of a frame of reference because I've never had a real meat pie. I had a couple of those frozen Stouffer's jobs growing up, but nothing I would call authentic. But what Piebury Corner served up was fantastic. Piping hot and served with a generous portion of mashed potatoes, really hit the spot. Located near Arsenal's home and as noted in a couple of the pics, the pies are named after Arsenal icons. Not shown is what I ordered, the Arsene Wenger - chicken and broccoli. Was delicious. If you're in the area, give it a try.

I am in love with this place and so upset its not in Dublin! A pie is just what you need before you head up to the Emirates Stadium for an Arsenal match... and Piebury Corner doesn't disappoint! Crumbly, sweet pastry, a wide range of fillings (check out my photo of their 'Legends' menu), and plenty of roasties/mash and gravy to give you that warm, fuzzy feeling inside. I had the 'Tony Adams' which was beautifully cooked steak and ale. I've had plenty of pies in my time but this was up there with the best of them! And with a pie with mash/roasties and gravy for under a tenner, you would be tempted to get one on the way home too!

All football fans have a pre match ritual, and included in mine is a visit to Piebury Corner. I won't bore you with stats to prove that eating here before the game increases the chance of an Arsenal win, but it certainly reduces the chances of you getting a half time tummy rumble. £4.50 gets you an Arsenal legend themed pie, £6.50 if you want mash or roast potatoes with it. Food is consistently good and the guy who sits outside on match days playing an eclectic mix of 70s ska vinyls on his little turntable just adds to the atmosphere. COYG!

Just exactly perfect warm savory pies and beer. Perfect afternoon snack on a Friday nearing rain.

We started with the cod croquettes. They were light and fluffy and the aioli was delicious. Next was the mozzarella and raw courgette. I was skeptical about the raw courgette but I loved it and ate more than my fair share. Next was the star of the night for me- the ricotta gnocchi. It was one of the best pastas I've ever had, and I wish I could recreate the sauce at home! Next was the second star- the baked cuttlefish pasta. Super skeptical here again because I normally don't like inked pasta, but my husband wanted it. It was sooooo good. We ended with an eclair and I was stuffed and happy! Can't recommend enough!

Luckily, the food at Westerns Laundry was better than the outcome of the game. I really enjoyed all the food. Salad with vinaigrette was great. Baked ricotta was yummy. Oyster of the day amazing. Anyway, almost did not come because of the negative reviews on the 'natural' wine. My conclusion: avoid the wine. Not sure why a great restaurant (who is on notice about the wine disaster) is dedicated to serving kombucha instead of having a solid list. Stick with the excellent beer and cocktails (the white port and tonic is amazing). Better luck for the Gunners in the future, but Westerns Laundry is worth the trip regardless.

Mrs D had a fry-up which looked great, but couldn't compete with my chicken. I went travelling for 7 months in between now and then and can sincerely say their food is the stuff you dream about when you're stuck in the middle of a strange country without your home comforts. It was also one of my first stops upon returning to London. My only slight criticism is the amount of time you sometimes wait to be served and perhaps certain staff could be slightly more friendly, but it is a minor flaw in an otherwise great restaurant. I recommend the jerk chicken sandwich, jerk chicken salad and jerk pork chop which is often on special. If you're not a fan of 'the jerk' don't worry, you can't go far wrong with any of the dishes really. And the prices are very reasonable. And as a quick aside I have dined on a table next to Simon Pegg, held the door open for Victoria Wood as she was leaving and there's a plaque claiming Bob Dylan was there in 1993. If it's good enough for them...

This is truly been kept quite by the well heeled locals of Highgate and Dartmouth Park for too long. I would best describe this place as a posh fish shop. Forget any images of greasy, oily, bland fish and chips you may have experienced in the past. This is a whole other level. Firstly, the chips are triple cooked Maris Pipers which is (as all self respecting British connoisseur will know) the best roasting/ frying potato. The fish is locally sourced and would have been swimming around the North Sea no less than two days before. The fish is beer battered in locally brewed Camden Hells larger and it has to be one of the best pieces of batter you can get. It comes in at £11 which is slightly more than you would pay else where but the difference is roughly about £4 but well worth it. They also offer an array of other quality seafood based dishes all of which I haven't tried but on viewing look amazing. If in the N19/NW5 area or a tourist wishing to sample the national British dish at its truly best then defiantly go out of your way to visit. I've attached the menu with prices along with address so guys defiantly check it out if looking for a fish fix. I'll attach some more images when I next go in.

The above is an excerpt from their menu and I can attest that they live up to all of it: Let me start with a description of the restaurant: Season is located on Stroud Green Road just a short walk from Finsbury Park Station...yes, it's not a fancy neighbourhood and indeed, Season kind of stands out in its well-thought-through interior. In fact, I kind of fell in love with what the folks here have accomplished: they have really paid attention to details and thus make the dining experience a true joy for all senses! (I especially liked the overall simplicity of this place, such as using packaging paper as table "cloth" and fixing it to the table with metal clips!) From the stylish, yet very cozy interior, to the food...may I quote from the menu again: "Generally our focus is British, French and Italian but our inspiration very often comes from further afield." And indeed, the inspiration for my dish came from further away, as I enjoyed a Roast Pumpkin Curry with Spinach, Peas and Basmati Rice. The Indian touch to this dish was undeniable and I very much liked the slight tingling in my mouth after every bite...which I then extinguished with a sip from the excellent house red... Oh, before I forget to mention it: in true fine-dining manner, as amuse-bouche I was offered a couple of spicy-cheesy Parmesan Crisps. These were followed by a couple of thick slices of dense, moist and wholesome bread. (I assume the bread was home-made as it looks just like the bread that I make at home and it tasted equally well!) Also, immediately after sitting down, I received a bottle of tap water; this gesture made me extra happy, as I hate having to ask for it! Now, the waiting tandem also deserves a special mention: they were very attentive and one of them (presumably the owner?) went around the dining room to have a little chit-chat with the guests. As this place has opened rather recently, there were quite a few guests, who'd been here for the first time and simply wanted to hear more about their philosophy. Somehow he didn't chat with me that long though, but I guess since I was writing my journal, he simply didn't want to disturb me. All in all, I thoroughly enjoyed my dining-experience at Season Kitchen and if I had to sum it all up in one sentence, I'd say: Fine dining yet without the usual dent to your checking account!
