I was in town for a business meeting and was looking for a Latin Cuban place to eat at. I found several yelp and Google reviews on this place and all had great reviews on how good the food tasted. I ordered the half chicken which was a rotisserie style chicken that came with fried plantains and, rice and beans as my sides. For dessert I ordered the cheese empanada with powdered sugar. For starters, the chicken was succulent, juicy and absolutely well seasoned and delicious. The sides were on a whole Nother level. The fried plantains were some of the best that I ever had, this restaurant would get a five star review just on the food quality alone however when it came to the staff, the ambience and the selection of food I was truly impressed. This restaurant was as authentic as I can imagine for Latin food in Tampa and was 100% what I expected when trying to find the best Latin food in town. in the restaurant, you can see that it had multiple of wars from the city and I completely agree with every single one of them. Great feature of this restaurant was different types of Latin soda that they had available. I chose to have a pineapple soda, which really complemented all the savory foods that I had. my thoughts please come out to try this restaurant. He won't be disappointed and don't forget to try the cheese empanada as a dessert. The dessert had a flaky crust perfectly melted cheese on the inside and had the perfect amount of savory and sweet at the same time. Last minute hunt for lunch in the area brought me to Pico Rojo and I'm so glad it did. This Latin America restaurant is casual cool found in a strip mall off of McMullen booth and enterprise. I was a bit concerned when it was empty at 1pm but there were still plenty of take out orders coming and leaving. This isn't a traditional restaurant with servers but rather order at the counter from the menu on the wall and either take it to go or they bring to your table. Similar to some fast food places. The main fare is roasted chicken. I had the meal with white chicken and 2 sides. Sides were fried cheese and sweet plantains. Drinks you choose from the fridge. Latin America options, American options and imported beer. Chicken hot off the spit here is amazing. White meat is every bit as juicy as the dark meat, which in rotisserie chicken land is truly a sight to behold. Tender and well seasoned chicken, it goes great with either sauce. I really appreciated that one of them was super spicy, while the other was creamy to balance the two out. Sides are also really good. Yucca fries are super crisp and not the least bit greasy, begging to be dunked in the aji sauce. Sweet plantains are super ripe and bursting with a nice sweet contrast. Rice and beans were also well seasoned and I enjoyed them, which really says something cause I normally hate beans. The fried cheese was also a pleasant surprise as it had a nice squeak and was different but probably the best of the sides in flavor. Note that when they say the whole chicken will likely feed 2-3 people, it's probably true as the chickens are on the smaller size which helps them cook better and the sides are relatively small, but put all together it's a good amount of food. read more

Seriously, the best chicken can be found here. They have 15 seasonings and they roast it overnight. It's not dry whatsoever. I ordered the whole chicken with four sides and said it's for two people and they divided our plates so it was nice and perfect. Their sides are so good. We had fried bananas fried Dominican cheese, corn, and fried yuca. They serve it with a yellow(mild) and green(spicy) sauce and when you mix it together, it's just perfect. Wash it down with your favorite spanish soda and you will be happy. I had Guarana and my hubby had postabon!! Love sitting outdoors. It's older inside. I went with the whole chicken and 4 sides platter and i would say that it feeds two people full or 3 people kind of full. Chicken was wonderfully seasoned and much more moist than I was excepting. Loved the Latin influenced flavor and tender meat that came off the bone easily. You can tell they've got the cooking time down perfect with their chicken. Of the sides, the yucca fries were amazing, the green beans were tasty, the maduros were average (I personally didn't like them - and I've NEVER turned down maduros), the rice and beans were average. The size of the sides for the family meal were tiny. They would have fed two people... maybe. If you weren't very hungry, it might.There were four yucca fries. FOUR. And that was an option for the family meal sides. Service was ok. No complaints but nothing outstanding either. For the price, we expected more from a "family size" meal. Why 5 stars? Because my wife tells me to get chicken from here at least twice a month and it is AWESOME! Love getting take out from Pico Rojo. We usually have 3-4 people and can get by with a whole chicken + 4 sides meal. Everything they sell is delicious and reminds us of some of the Rotisserie chicken places we've tried in South America and the Caribbean. Everything from the Tostones/ Plantain Chips/(Patacones for you Colombian's out there), to the Fried Sweet Plantains, to the Black beans and rice are very good. The dipping sauces they serve are also delicious....but be careful with that green sauce! It's spicy! The yellow sauce I believe is some sort of mustard/mayo mix that tastes great to dip the chicken or Tostones in. Would totally recommend this to someone who wants to try something different to takeout other than the run of the mill Pizza or Chinese joint. Or, go dine in! I am a super fan of Pico Rojo. This is the best tasting chicken I have had. The food is Bolivian style and it is seasoned to perfection. My wife and I are regulars, and the consistency and flavor keep us coming back. My favorite is the 1/2 chicken, vainitas (green beans) and tostones (fried plantains). It is hard to not order the grilled white cheese which is so tasty. The couple of times we have had dessert, it has been on par with the rest of the food. One of the best things about this business is that it is family owned and operated. The people are so nice and we really enjoy the experience and atmosphere of the restaurant. Not a huge fan of the sauces since one is an uber-spicy jalapeno and the other is mayo-based, but I don't think you really need the sauce anyway.
