Avoid this place at all costs. I originally brought my car in to change my brakes. I was told that my brakes are in good condition but that I would need to change my thermostat, 2 hoses and my water pump. I agreed to have this work done. Here is where things go bad. I go back to the shop two hours later and was told by John that while working on my car, the plastic part to my radiator broke. John then tried to charge me an additional $500 to replace the radiator that his mechanics broke. I thought it was unfair to charge me an additional $500 for parts and labor, something his workers broke while repairing. I felt like I was being scammed. He then told me "I could have not told you about the broken piece and put your car together and you would've been broken down in a week". This made me very uncomfortable and upset. After negotiating he agreed to change the part at no cost to me but kept reiterating how unfair it is to his shop. Not considering how unfair it is to me that his workers were not careful enough with my car. My car was in his shop all day because of the additional work that needed to be completed. Once I picked up my car and left the shop, I noticed the note he left on the invoice. He wrote that they "found a broken radiator" but that is not true. They broke the radiator while taking off a hose. read more

Good Service, great techs, John was great as well, they were able to give me my pads and rotors that they replaced after I remembered I had warranty on them. The brakes feel great, thankfully, it had been months of burring noises. John communicated that the Caliper was biting into the brake pad so that was good to know. So many places do crappy work for lots of $$ , especially with brakes. Im very glad I found this place. Ill update on how my brakes are doing after a few months, but so far I'm very satisfied and will be bringing my car back. read more

What I couldn't even give it half a star? This place has been around too long in Pico Rivera it's amazing. It has stood the test of time. I don't know how he has this many fans that keep JOHN open but then again, he doesn't have too many fans and just charges an arm and a leg and whatever other vital organ he can to keep the place going. This is terrible went in for some paperwork to see what was done to my mothers car and the last past 15-25 years (he boast and this was a new CAR mind you, OG owner) and why it's decline? Again she is the original owner who hardly drives ever. Her only drive is around Pico to the market and back. I've always told her, actually the whole family has, don't take it back to Mr. JOHN he is not honest. Well he blew it today about getting the records and I want full records on the vehicle---full records, Mr. John you hear that or else I will file with the bureau. Just like I have the right to my records on my health I should have all record on my moms cars health on my cars health. Anybody should have the records to the health of their car to take it to another mechanic and know where to start for you to have just done work in July 2022 and now say that it is not workable and that you refuse to work on it anymore is pretty shady to me. Do not trust John. My van is broke down now and it could have been avoided had John actually helped me determine the real issue which was my oil pump. I informed John that we were not sure why we were getting the same code we'd had on a few months ago, we replaced the entire oil filter housing adapter and both switches were brand new as well just 2-3months prior to our van breaking down. I asked him to please check both the switches and the entire housing adapter, to see what if anything at all may be faulty from the factory....and if neither were faulty then we'd move on to the oil pump itself, since the code from the check engine light was reading oil pressure was off. Instead he charged me to replace a oil filter pressure switch that didn't need to be replaced. I asked him to make sure the switch was bad before replacing it. The check engine light was still on for the same code after he replaced the switch, meaning I needed a new oil pump. When I get there to pick up my van, he shoves my original oil filter pressure switch in my face before I could even say hi. He says "here's your switch!" ..... okay , great you relplaced a switch but did you diagnose that was the actual issue? No? Did you even test the oil filter housing adapter to make sure it wasn't the culprit instead of just the switch? No? Okay how do you know my switch is faulty then? If it were the real issue, why was the same check engine light is still on? He claimed I needed to drive it and put some miles on the engine and the code would clear. He didn't even do a basic test of the switch to make sure it was receiving or putting out the correct voltage. He also didn't check my oil filter housing adapter to make sure it was putting out the correct voltage or the oil temp switch that was also located in the oil filter housing adapter. So he replaced the piece for nothing? After hitting him with all of these questions and I was visibly upset with him because I just realized he tore down my engine, charged me for the new switch and labor that didn't need to be replaced, he proceeds to tell me although it may need other work, they don't do jobs that big there, he's referring to replacing my oil pump that was clearly making noises when I arrived. So he charges me about $400 for the $60 part and the rest in labor and is refusing to put any of that towards fixing the actual issue. He scammed me, initially told me I'd be able to put the diagnostic and labor of the tear down toward any other repairs it needed.... But he had no intention on helping me fix my van at all, he put it all back together and shoved a brand new switch on my face when I walked into the shop as if he'd discovered gold and said "here's your switch!" Don't trust him. Here is the oil filter housing adapter order from my Amazon with brand new switches , the very switch her charged me for not even 3months later, that wasn't even broken. Smh he's the reason I have trust issues with mechanics now so thanks for that. And it took me so long to write this review because life has been rough, but fast forward to 2022 and my van is now completely broken due to this same part that he claimed he'd fixed by changing out the switch which wasn't even broken. It was this piece that the switch is connected to and it was a faulty piece, which I would have known had John properly diagnosed my van instead of telling me it was just the switch that needed to be changed out. The van wasn't getting proper pressure to the engine and that's why it is now broke down. read more

It is always hard to find an honest, good mechanic but I found them here. I drove an older Pontiac and would bring it in for all sorts of services. Regular up keep and maintenance. However with age and the amount of miles put on John told me that it's time to start looking for a new car. He was honest, very cut to the chase and he didn't want to take my money anymore. He said he couldn't stand by his service. I later traded it in and got a new car. John is abrupt, very meat and potatoes type of guy. It is this direct demeanor that you know he means business. There are still good people out in this world! I was at a red light and kept hearing a man saying "mam" so I lowered the music and turned to him and he said "your tire is completely flat" I was shocked since I just got them the day before, used, but I didn't think I'd have a problem ... Well he told me "follow me to my shop I'll put air in it" I was iffy because you just never know now days...well I literally followed him half a block away and we pulled up to a shop , not some ally so all worries went away lol. Well working fast he starts putting air and said "the air keeps coming out ,the air nozzle is broken, I'm gonna replace it" so he proceeded to take off the tire and change the nozzle, it took about 10 including checking the rest of my tires! Worried cuz I didn't have much money I asked how much? He gave me his card and said "no charge" I thought "woooow this guy is definitely getting 5 stars asked him if he had a Yelp and told him he's getting a terrific review so here it is!" How do I begin? Synopsis: This place, due to the owner's greed cost me $2900 dollars. I needed the California smog check so went here since they are down the street and seemed like a nice place. My check engine light was on (Infinity G35). The owner had his mechanic do the test. When completed I was told it did not pass. Not in an empathetic way but, he yelled it at me from across the garage. Seemed happy I did not pass. FYI emissions passed, gas cap passed, etc. but they failed me because the "check engine" light was on. Well I came back mid next week to him and he did another diagnostic. Result: solenoid magnets needed to be replaced. I said go ahead and do it. Honest Abe (not sure of the guy's name: short, bespectacled, Eastern European look, early 50's) comes to me and says he will do the work ($600 worth) but will not guarantee it. I told him that was a way for him to charge me double since he could just leave the work undone and say he tried. I had to go to the dealer and pay $2500 to do the work. Came back to Pico Rivera Auto Clinic and re-did the smog check: Passed this time. Honest Abe charged me again although he had already done it once, had charged me for the diagnostic and would not do the work to repair with a guarantee. Reason for third charge: more than 10 days since original smog. My perspective: Honest Abe knew the car would not pass smog as he is the expert. Did it anyway (FEE #1). Charged me to "test" the car (FEE #2). Hoped for FEE #3: "fix" the car (MAYBE: no guarantee). Hoped for FEE #4: fix something else in the car since the check engine light was still on after FEE #3. The guy walked away with $210 dollars of mine so he did triple his money. GOOD FOR HIM. God bless him. Again, if this dude would have told me to go get the problem fixed before the inspection he would have saved me a lot of money and he would have ONLY made the inspection fee BUT he would have had a client for life and someone who would recommend his business. Instead he cost me a month's wages (including DMV late fees). Not his fault the light was on but his greed cost me money. Under the moniker of honesty is hidden a WOLF.
