My experience at Piccolo was a positive one. After spending the time that it takes for one to get from Atlanta to San Juan on a direct flight, I was pretty hungry. And I am such a huge sweets fan (which I need to tame because diabetes is already taunting me right around the corner) so seeing a gelateria was a joy. I dragged bf over and asked him if he wanted some. He declined, as I suspected, but said he'd take a coffee after seeing the overhead menu. I tasted a few, but settled on the coconut and pineapple (I mean, we were on a tropical island after all).
The gelato was delicious and fresh-tasting. I ate all of it and was amazed at how creamy the pineapple one was while remaining true to the natural flavor. Though I had gotten a sample before settling on the two fruit flavors, eating them in a bigger portion made me appreciate the gelato even more so. Bf's coffee was strong, just like he likes it. He always tells me about how close the Cuban and Puerto Rican history and people are and he used this occasion to back up his claim.
The woman who took care of us was very nice. Bring cash though. No cards are taken; you will just be directed to the closest ATM (which is referred to as ATH, I think...). read more
