(We thought that the name of this restaurant was Piccards; the museum has this restaurant and also a food court). This restaurant is oddly, hands-down, where we've had the best meal and food in Switzerland and in a while in all of Europe. Do not let the fact that the restaurant sits in the Verkehrshaus Museum fool you!
We were only going to the Verkehrshaus Museum for a visit, and expecting food court type sustenance. However, we found what seems to be a classy, fancy-esque restaurant that presents itself right by the main entrance to the Museum. We've already been in Switzerland for 5 days at this point, and were well acquainted with the pricing, so we didn't really have our hopes up that this place would be any different.
We were seated by an amazing waiter. He had all the characteristics of a friendly waiter. Furthermore, he was very attentive to details, and explained to us the fine accouterments of the prixe fix'd menu. The menu itself was rather simple - a one pager. However, with the waiter's help we were able to select our meals easily.
Again, we did not have high expectations for a museum restaurant. However, we were beyond surprised when the food was served. The started dish was a butternut squash/pumpkin soup. It tasted monumental - it had the proper saltiness and buttery-fat content that warmed your heart. For the entree, a plate with beef cutlets that was drizzled with what I can only explain as a horseraddish/mustardy sauce was accompanied by a fresh bed of green/string beans and polenta crescents. It was glorious to say the least.
We were amazed by how amazing this food was. It was not until we left the restaurant, that we saw the food court in the museum that we were expecting. We are definitely fortunate to have stumbled upon this restaurant rather than dine in the food court. read more
