The wait was exactly 1 hour and our food was presented 1 hour later. We ordered fried Mac & cheese and fried risotto balls( keeping the cholesterol up and big pharma in business!) Delicious!!!!! OMG! Well worth the wait, folks! I ordered the fish special. Pan seared grouper on a bed of polenta with a pea and green bean medley. Served with roasted Brussel sprouts aside. The fish was firm and flaky. The flavors in the polenta medley were indescribable. Just fresh and made my mouth dance! We ordered a small New York style 7 cheese pizza to go because it smells so darn good in here! Lol. I'll let you know how it tastes. I have been going to Picasso's for about 15 years and always thought it was one of the best eateries in Jacksonville - definitely the best Italian one. That said, there is not a lot of competition in Jacksonville. Nevertheless, Picasso's would have rated highly no matter where it was located. However, the last time I was there (a couple of months ago), there seemed to be a slight change which I could not put my finger on - it was just a little off. This is about my third or fourth time here. I honestly don't know what the big attraction is. People rave about this place. I must be missing something. This visit I went with a friend. When we walked in we got on line to order because there is no table service at lunchtime. Picasso gives you a number at the counter during lunch and then brings the food to your table. My friend had never been here before and right away she looked around and made comments about how old and dingy the place looks. I've actually never noticed it before, but it really does need some sprucing up. It was very busy during Saturday afternoon as they have a great lunch special of a slice and a salad. I'm not sure exactly how much it was but my friend said it was very reasonable. This is nice to hear as restaurants have gotten so expensive. Maybe that's why they're so popular? I had a salad with artichokes and red onion, and added grilled chicken (large size) . I asked for blue cheese dressing on the side. The salad was large however, it was all iceberg lettuce with a few pieces of red onion and a few very small bits of artichoke chopped up in it. It did have a good amount of grilled chicken in it which tasted pretty average , not too many spices on it if at all. Overall, the salad was pretty basic if it wasn't the blue cheese dressing, it probably wouldn't have been very good. Their blue cheese dressing is delicious! My friend enjoyed her pizza. She said it was very good. If you're looking for good thin crust pizza at lunchtime with a salad this is a great option. Generally a really good spot and I used to be a regular. Had a customer service issue last week when lunch order was over 20 min on a very slow day. Normally much faster so I politely asked if my ticket was lost, or maybe my sandwich needed to be ra-made, etc. Cashier went with lying to my face instead. She said "it's only been 10 min" multiple times and it was completely off topic. Well my receipt has a time stamp, so lying isn't gonna work. Our neighbors have been raving about Picasso's so we decided to check them out. We are true fans now! When I first called I continued to reach a busy tone but was able to get to get through on the fourth call. The staff was very courtesy and handled the busiest very well. We ordered the steak special and the shrimp scampi along with the gooey cake. I didn't get a picture of the cake as I devoured it so quickly! The steak was AMAZING!!! I ordered medium and my husband had his rare and both were delicious and still hot by the time we got home. The presentation was on point. Both items we ordered were very tasty. You could really tell the fettuccine pasta was homemade and fresh. The sauce was great - slightly sweet. The chicken was cooked well and very juicy. Melty fresh mozzarella on top as well as shaved Parmesan. Simple, doughy breadsticks were great dipped in the sauce. Hubby loved his calzone. It was stuffed with tons of cheese and pepperoni. Very good crust - bread-like, soft with a nice crunch around the edges. After dinner we were full but the gooey butter cake sounded amazing. But what really makes it a local jewel? When you meet great people there. Like the other day, we were traveling up from Orlando, and we stopped at Picasso's. It was my wife's first dining experience there. While there, we bumped into a gentleman named Mr. Bennet Brown. We chatted and shared a few life stories in that brief encounter. He also spoke highly of Picasso's with a genuine warmth. We have found a new place to call home and the bonus for us, they offer great wine choices, which is a rarity for most local restaurants. Came here with another couple to meet up for dinner. We made reservations (I highly suggest doing that) for a Saturday night. When we arrived the entire place was packed to the gills. We let the hostess know we were here and she showed us to the table. I looked over the menu and was going back and forth between pizza and pasta. The interior is small, but welcoming. There are Picasso paintings (not real I would assume) lining the restaurant. After looking over the menu, we opted to start with the crispy risotto bites milanese. I ordered a glass of reisling (they only serve beer and wine). Our risotto bites came out quickly. They looked perfectly golden. I feel like three is such an odd number when it comes to the number of bites they gave us. Four would have been more even (I digress). I cut into the risotto bite and it was warm, gooey, and delicious. I highly recommend these, but if you have a table of four - six people, I'd recommend getting two orders. For my entree I ordered the New York style pizza lyonnaise (ricotta, caramelized onions, mozzarella). Entrees came out quickly. My pizza looked and smelled amazing. I dug in and the pizza was cooked perfectly. The ricotta was creamy and the caramelized onions added the right amount of sweetness to the dish. I'm really disappointed. This is the second time in a four month period I've had a really bad experience. [Please see my earlier review]. Usually, the issue is they make my pizza with red sauce when I am allergic to red sauce. Today, however, I didn't even get any food so I have to give Picassos one star. I ordered a pizza for pickup (Gourmet on gluten free, Mediterranean Style). They told me it would be 30 min. Okay, I said. I got there and it was dead for Picassos. I thought to myself "great, it should be ready." I get in, and the cashier girl mumbles something incoherent about the gluten free crust. I ask what and she's like we don't have the gluten-free crust. I'm like why didn't you guys let me know when I placed the order or call me right back? She couldn't give me an answer. The manager waltzed up nonchalantly, asking me what else I wanted instead. I said "I don't want anything else instead. I would have expected you to call me right back once you made this discovery rather than make me waste 30 min I could have spent picking up a pizza from V." It's pretty obvious he's used to comping stuff but when you cannot eat gluten and need more than a salad, this isn't always an option. I left with an IOU a free pizza (if they don't conveniently forget about that since they didn't take my last name or give me a store card) an a rumbling stomach. I called V, where they have NEVER screwed up my order, and that was that. All Picassos needs to do is get my order right for once and they'll be getting five stars from me. This little gem is hidden in what I would call a dark and dreary strip mall. Monkeys Uncle is a couple doors down but nothing else worth mentioning is located there. Packed for a Thursday night. We had 5 people and waited about 30 minutes. Luckily they allow you to order a drink and sip while you wait. Our service was great. My drinks were refilled without me even knowing. I opted to share the Fried Ravioli and New York style crust Kitchen Sink pizza. Both were pleasant and full of flavor. The medium pizza had 8 slices and we had extra with 3 people eating off of it. My most favorite dish... the fried Mac n cheese... of which I tried a nibble from my friend. Honestly everything looked great. Picasso was closer but that didn't mean they would even give me pizza in the promised time. Not coming back for a pick up pizza. V pizza is better and their pizza is also out of this world. I even have a good tip to the cashier when I paid for it. I regret it want to cancel the order and request the tip back. But is too late also learned a lesson never tip a cashier they don't know and will promise without knowing. After the fact she said that this happens all the time. My wife and I had never been here before. We're not in this part of town often so we thought it was a good opportunity to give them a try. We got there shortly after they opened and most of the tables were already full. The six top that checked in ahead of us was total an hour wait. Since we were only two they sat us right away in the last open table. It was the table right next to the counter so i got a little crowded at time but at least we didn't have to wait to be seated. I use to live in St. Louis so we had to try the toasted ravioli. They were good but it might have been the nostalgia I was tasting. I got the rosemary encrusted fish. I subbed out cauliflower for mashed potatoes. It was really good. The cauliflower was a flat disk about 6" inches in diameter. I'd never seen cauliflower served like that so it was a little different. The bur blanc sauce was very good but not over powering. Overall, a great dish I would definitely have again. My wife got pasta and meat balls. She never orders anything exciting and this was pretty par for the course. I had a few bites of left overs the next day and it got the job done. The place is very clean, looks more like an upscale bistro than a pizza place and the menu reflects that. I like the fact that the menu has quite an array of foods and prices, but not enough to be overwhelming. We had come here interested in their sandwiches but our friend talked us into pasta. I did see sandwiches on other tables and they looked really delicious. The pizza did as well. My husband ordered the Spicy Pasta Arrabbiata. It was spicy and savory. The pasta was a perfect al dente with just the right amount of sauce. He really enjoyed that and ate every bite. I had the Fettuccine Alfredo and added Italian Sausage for an additional fee. (I was shocked to see how much sausage was added, totally worth the up-charge.) Perfect pasta, excellent Alfredo sauce, and the sausage chunks were divine. Tender and just a wee bit spicy. Both of our pasta dishes came with two soft bread twists that were quite delicious. Our friend ordered the Pan-Roasted Chicken. It was plated beautifully, with roasted potato rounds on the bottom, squash noodles in the middle, and a lovely chicken breast on top. He let me try a taste of the breast, it was seasoned very lovely and the fontina cheese was a perfect accompaniment. The dessert list was oh-so tempting, so we gave in to a piece of the Gooey Butter Cake. It wasn't as gooey as you'd think it would be, considering the name, but it was like a super moist pound cake. Not too sweet, thankfully, but very tasty. We really enjoyed that. Service was excellent and our waiter, a very tall gentleman who's name I didn't catch, was a professional. Overall good experience here! I would say great value for the portion sizes and the quality of the food. My best friend has been begging me to come here with her for some time but I don't tend to frequent Italian or pasta-heavy restaurants. I'm glad I agreed to go the other night because it was pretty good! Breadsticks were amazing. The fried mac & cheese was pretty good but mostly breading and cheese sauce. I liked my chicken parm but the pasta didn't really do it for me. The dish itself wasn't very hot when it came out and, although I could be wrong, I felt like the pasta had been made quite some time ago. My friend got the fettuccine Alfredo and it looked so delicious. I was incredibly jealous! I would definitely come back here and try something else on the menu.
