Blue Bamboo has been on our radar for years but somehow with all our time in Jacksonville we still hadn't been.. That was till last weekend went we made a reservation a week out and locked in. We came in for dinner and were quickly seated. We started off with checking out the drink menu and I had to try the Asian Whiskey Smash which sounded very refreshing. Once ordered I have never seen a drink come out faster which made me think it might have been premade but it was still good. Of course course also had to get an appetizer and when with a classic for us that being the Crab Rangoon's which are made with actual Lump-Crab and not Krab....I was also a big fan of the sauce it came with since I'm not a huge fan of the radioactive Sweet & Sour Sauce that many come with. I ordered another drink and this time went with Sake. I got the Sakari Demon Slayer which came in a "Juice Box" which was fun. Not the best Sake for sure but fun and cheap. For my entree I went with the Red Curry Shrimp & Grits. Being such a Curry and Shrimp & Grits fan it's just the best of both worlds. Ashley got the General's Chicken and we also ordered the Chow Fun with Beef for a noodle dish to share. The Red Curry Shrimp & Grits was very good and for sure a must try. It was rich and loaded with shrimp, veggies, and those tasty grit cakes. I have only had a Curried Shrimp & Grits once before and this one was for sure better and that one was good too. Now as if I couldn't speak more on thr Red Curry Shrimp & Grits that wasn't even the best dish of the night. That has to go to the Chow Fun with Beef! This was the best Chow Fun I have ever had by far. This is a must get every time you visit Blue Bamboo. The beef was so tender and the Chow Fun was cooked perfectly and so flavorful. Trying to be fair here..... we lived in the far east and NYC Montreal San Fran China towns. Ambience? Very nice. A five Star. Service? Same. We had curry noodles off the regular menu a four star. However when it came to the dim sum? Does not compare to other Jacksonville dim sum restaurants.....Not many choices. Ribs were terrible we ordered four different dim sums. The Blue Bamboo is a beautiful restaurant. Very clean. The hostess very nice, the waiter too. But the food........ not so good. I ordered vegetable fried rice with an egg added. The rice was overcooked with too much soy sauce. The only vegetables in there were minute amounts of shredded carrots and onions. That's it! We have passed by Blue Bamboo 100 times at a minimum and every single time I mention wanting to try it. So finally my husband, sick of listening to me mention how much I want to try it, got the hint and made us a reservation! Blue Bamboo did not disappoint! The service was great, the food was delicious and the decor was very nice. To start we ordered the crab rangoons which were delicious but I will be honest not the best I've ever had. I ordered a sake flight which was 100% worth it. Three sakes each one was different so I was able to really pick out what I like and what I don't like in a sake. For my meal I ordered the General Tso chicken, I like that they were trying something different then most restaurants and I really liked the dish I'm just not sure I liked it as much as a typical General Tso chicken. I did get to try the shrimp and grits and that might be one of the best dishes I have tried in a very long time. I also tried the beef Ho Fun, it was a bit oily but scrumptious and I would absolutely order it again. read more

I came here with a group of friends. This is my first visit to the new location. Long overdue. The appetizers were served first, along with a "positivity" drink. They also served brownies too. Then I decided to order shrimp lo mien. The shrimp are huge. The flavor of the dish is so delicious. I had to box more than half of my low mien. It was a generous portion. It was great seeing Chef Dennis. It's been a while since I have talked with him. I love the decor inside and outside of the restaurant. Pros:atmosphere, food, employees was great. We checked out Blue Bamboo and it's a unique spot in Jacksonville if you're looking for a modern take on Chinese cuisine. We tried the red curry chicken and waffles (surprisingly good) and the General Tso's, which was a little different than usual but still hit. This place is so AMAZING!!! I came here with my best MOM friends for dinner and then we played mahjong until they closed (they actually have a mahjong room!). The decor is gorgeous and the service was impeccable. The food was incredible too! My favorite was the Canton duck (skin super crispy and juicy on the inside), but it was an entire half duck and quite difficult to cut yourself. It would have been even better if it was already cut up. Another fave was the fried rice, great flavors! The General's chicken was good but not my fav. The ahi tuna was the only dish that disappointed... it didn't taste like good quality tuna and the flavor was bland. I wouldn't order it again. Chef Dennis is wonderful! I love learning and I signed up for a cooking class that was both Asian and Italian! Diana with Italian Cooking Classes and Chef Dennis are a fabulous working team. We made congee and a saffron risotto & were treated to dumplings and tiramisu. I was thrilled to have Vanessa T join me for a fun night. I arrived an hour early to hit happy hour, and get a lay of the land. The house infused bourbon in my old fashioned was done right and just the drink to start my evening on the right foot. I also ordered a small plate of lumpia- superb! The cooking class started with the congee- a broth, ginger and scallions & quickly jumped into risotto- all the butter and stirring! hmmmm. I finished my leftovers just last night and it was just so good! I cannot wait to do another class at Blue Bamboo & I know I will see Diana soon. Wow, what a hidden gem right in Mandarin! It's a very spacious restaurant with nice ambiance and plenty of parking. My lycheetini was delicious and so was the maple old fashioned. The lettuce wraps were perfect. I also really enjoyed the red curry shrimp and grits - a little spicy and full of flavor- the grits are shaped in two patties, crispy on the outside and warm and soft grits on the inside- so creative! The Tra fish was also awesome. Gorgeous presentation of the food. I attended a group lunch with 30 diners today at this restauarant. The space and building are both beautiful with plenty of parking all around the building. We were seated in a private room with 2 long tables, but there are plenty of other tables throughout the restauarant, as well as a nice bar area. We had 2 staff members providing our service, and it was excellent. The restaurant has a pretty big menu with 11 appetizers, 23 entrees, and 10 Cantonese stir-fries. Our group had Cantonese egg rolls, the choice of 4 different entrees, and Mandarin Orange Cake for dessert. I chose the honey garlic shrimp bowl. It had steamed rice, broccoli, crispy-fried shrimp, and a sweet honey garlic soy sauce. The Mandarin orange sponge cake with pineapple cream cheese frosting was the star of the show. Happy Year of the snake! Joining in on the Chinese New Year festivities was an awesome experience. What a fantastic time. However, the real star of the show was the food. This is the Chinese food I grew up on in New York. I have been searching for dishes prepared authentically since living in Jax. Why oh why have I never been to Blue Bamboo before? I'm so sorry Chef Chan! The highlight of my meal was the fried rice. It was amazing. We also loved the hot & sour soup & the wonton soup, both flavorful & served with a side of fried crispy noodles. 9/12/24 Mandarin Historic Museum had a 35 year celebration fundraiser. The owner/chef Dennis Chan is a supporter of the museum and its efforts so that's why the events was here. We have been to Blue Bamboo 3x now. The first experience was the best, we ordered the Shrimp Lo Mein, hot and sour soup plus Sichuan Beef Stir Fry. All of them were delicious, so we couldn't wait to go back and try their other dishes. Second time was also good, my husband enjoyed the ribs, we tried our friend's zucchini fries and that was addicting! I couldn't stop eating them! However, my Red Curry Shrimp and Grits was just okay. I like curry, but their version lacks the depth of the flavor I was looking for. The third time was a disappointment. I got the Chicken Sha La Noodles, again I like curry, so maybe this time it's better with the noodles and peanut butter sauce, it wasn't. The noodles was mushy and just lacks the richness flavor. The Generals Chicken was certainly not what we were expecting. It looks like a Chicken Katsudon. The crispy texture of the chicken was pleasant, but tasted bland. Overall, we will still come back and just order what we previously liked or try the menu where you have to order 24 hours prior to your visit. read more

Another restaurant that seems to have been on my list for forever but we somehow never made it until tonight. Huge regret. Huge. Because we were missing out on something special! The interior of the restaurant has a modern but gorgeous feel with Asian touches. Loved the huge Bar/Mandarin sign over the bar area! The kitchen is "semi-open" with windows that can peer into the workings from some areas of the restaurant. Service is friendly, smooth, and unfussy. Timing of dishes was excellent with a short break in between courses and zero feelings of being rushed but still efficient. We (my husband and I) started with a couple of Happy Hour special appetizers: crab Rangoon and pork lumpia. We agreed the Crab Rangoon was top of the list for Crab Rangoon. The lumpia were tasty, but not quite as tasty as our friend's family's homemade secret recipe. But that's a pretty impossible act to follow. We both had a difficult time choosing between all the the delicious sounding entrees. Our server was happy to go over our front runners to help us decide. Ultimately, my husband- being a fried rice fiend - went for that with chicken added. I tried the red curry shrimp and grits, which I was informed by the server when we were discussing option that it is very different than what you'd expect to see with shrimp and grits. She was right! A generous portion of grits made into a grit cake topped with several shrimp swimming in a savory and rich red curry with onions and sliced green peppers greeted me. The taste? Divine. The red curry was a great compliment to the grit cake and shows a level of creativity balancing the global comfort-foods. It was especially nice since it was a cold evening - the perfect hearty meal to combat the chill! The fried rice was tasty and I had seen many New Yorker/New Jerseyians rave about it. Indeed, it does have that darker brown color and a great flavor. Portions were solid; we both took leftovers home (can't wait to try them after their second day rest!). We couldn't say no to the award-winning Mandarin Orange Cake for dessert even though we were full. The cake is a super moist sponge(ish) cake with a sweet icing and orange syrup drizzles. The orange flavor is not overpowering and, in fact, I enjoyed the extra orange boost of the syrup on my bites. All in all, we were really pleased with our dinner here and are looking forward to returning soon-probably with the kids next time! They'll love the robot food runner! We did learn from our server that for the rest of the year they are running Fried Rice Tuesdays, which provides options for a lower price for the fried rice (if I remember correctly, $12.99ish? But I could be wrong). That plus nicely priced happy hour appetizer options Monday-Friday makes for a pretty inexpensive weekday dinner so we'll be trying that out soon to help beat the Tuesday doldrums. I also forgot to mention both the manager and Chef Dennis came by at points during our meal to check in on us. Again, truly a welcoming and conscientious level of service everyone there provided us, from the hostesses all the way to the Chef! read more

The potstickers came with a delicious ginger sauce which was very different than normal! We loved it!!!! The edamame could have used some additional salt and sauce. Coming to Blue Bamboo for any celebration is a tradition. The food is alway "close your eyes and just point to anything" because it is alway so good. Tonight is a friend's birthday and here we go. Shrimp and Grits, Ahi Tuna, Kung Pao Tofu with Crab Rangoons and Dragon Whiskers for apps. Yum! I always grab apps so I can take home the entree for later meals. ....anticipation.... The "Social Lubricants" are divine. My dirty martini is perfect with a twist. My friend's Mojito was apparently refillable, fast! The dessert was delish and the service from Mica was attentive and perfect. Kudos. Always reliably fun, delicious and enjoyable . Recommend to anyone with a yearning for fusion Asian foods. First time at this new location. Spacious layout with relaxing ambiance perfect for cocktails after a busy week. Right when you walk in, to your right will be the bar area and to your left will be the dining area. Happy hour is from 5-6PM and is only available at the bar area. We forwent Happy Hour and seated in their dining area. Authentic Cantonese! For starters, we had their classic Hot and Sour soup. Nice balance especially for the cold weather. For the main entrees, we ordered the Sichuan Beef Stir Fry and Cantonese Shrimp Lomein. I can tell the authenticity of these dishes by the taste and smell alone.
