Chef Carl, along with his sous chef and dishwasher were professional, experienced and patient as he demonstrated techniques and offered handy tips while preparing courses and kept all the cook stations tidy. A misunderstanding about attendance was quickly resolved and we began our evening. This meal was a requested duplicate from a few months back using bourbon and it was very very good. I absolutely LOVE Jax Cooking Studio! We have done two date nights here, and my husband also took my mom for a class to spend some time together. The chefs are knowledgeable, patient, kind and very helpful. I always have fun chatting with them and learning their tricks and tips for classes. Absolutely amazing experience perfect for a date night! My boyfriend and I did the Five Star Seafood dinner, with the following menu: seared scallops on a bed of greens with an herbed butter sauce, pan seared grouper with horseradish and panko crust, mushroom and tomato risotto, roasted asparagus, and chocolate mousse with whipped cream. Also, complimentary unlimited wine! You can also change up the dishes to accommodate your preferences (more/less/different seasonings, take out an ingredient, cook for longer/shorter, etc.). Chef Bronson and his team of sous chefs including Palmer, Breezy, and Carl were amazing and made the experience great! Chef demos a recipe or two, and then you head back to your station to recreate it while he and the team walk around to help. They also clean up, tend to your food while you are watching other demos, man the ovens, etc., which is really nice. After making the appetizer, you sit down and eat, and then you eat the main and dessert at the end. And the kitchen stations and tables are beautifully done, I loved the design and ambiance. I was super excited to go to this cooking school as I have been to other cooking classes that we thoroughly enjoyed. My husband and I did the succulent seafood and we showed up about 15 minutes before the start of the class, but unfortunately there was a large group who showed up 15 minutes after start time and they were still other people struggling in 30 minutes past start time from this group. I feel regardless of the amount of people we all paid the same amount and it was not cheap. It was $85 per person. They should've started on time. It's not our fault that other people can't make it when they're supposed to. Luckily, they only delayed the class for 15 minutes and not 30 minutes for the entire group to show up. You walk in and there are tables that hold 4 and a table 2, I am not sure how the other ends would've been set up because of the large party, but I'm assuming it would also have been set up as two tables for four each The table for 2 costs more money but you get to have the gas stove and use the actual cooks station What i didn't like is you will walk up front and they show you how to cook more than one item at a time and then send you back to your station. Because they show you a couple of items you forget the order in which things go into the pot/pan etc.. At the station, you have most of your stuff pre-measured out that you're going to need for that particular dish and you have to chop the onion but it's already quartered so you only get what you need I don't feel that they walk around and check on you enough to answer any questions or verify that you're doing things correctly. Also, you have to share a stove with another couple because the tables hold four people so it's 4 people to one stove. The couple we shared the stove with kept turning off our burner. I've been to other cooking schools where the stoves are more in the middle almost like a Japanese steakhouse and therefore the teachers could walk around and see you in real time to correct anything you're doing wrong Also, the printer was not working the day we went so it was very hard to read the recipes and we couldn't take them home because it was only printed on half of the page All in all, I was not impressed and I won't be back. It's unfortunate because I really do enjoy cooking classes, but I feel their set up. Isn't set up to help teach you. It's more like they cook it and you watch on the television or unless you're lucky enough to get upfront and then you go to the station and you're kind of on your own. read more

This was a wonderful experience! My husband and I took a class for my birthday and we had so much fun. The chefs are very knowledgeable, friendly and willing to help. The demonstrations were great. The chefs broke down the cooking process in a way where it was not intimidating, but rather gave you confidence that you could do it. The recipes were there in front of you however it was emphasized that we had freedom over our dishes to season and cook the way we wanted to. The food was delicious! The staff was like a well oiled machine with the clean up, dish washing, and making sure everyone had an enjoyable time. The only thing I wish the website listed that we could bring our own drinks. Unique, fun date night! Upon entering we were kindly greeted by the attentive staff and sous chef who led us to our workstation and gave us a quick rundown of how the night would progress. A variety of complimentary wines were also served as we waited for the remainder of the class to arrive. We started promptly as Chef Melissa demonstrated the first course and dessert for us to start baking. Conveniently placed monitors and an overhead camera helped provide an adequate view of the demonstrations even from afar. Recipes were simple to follow but helped establish good techniques that we will take home. We cook a fair amount at home, but the class was not too simplistic as to keep several different levels of cooks engaged. The pre-portioned ingredients and roaming staff taking away dirty dishes leaves you and your date to enjoy the fun parts of cooking without the hassles. Classes are priced very fairly for the portions and quality of the food/experience (6-7oz sirloins, 8 shrimp, ~6oz lobster, 8 scallops). This cooking studio was gracious enough to host our company when we were turned down twice from other studios, one was closing and had no availability left and the other just had no availability. We were able to pick a theme which we went with Southeast Asian Cuisine: Chicken Lettuce Wraps -Fan favorite made with a rich soy sauce, water chestnuts, and scallions Lumpia - Lightly fried spring rolls filled with ground pork and served with a sweet chili sauce Shrimp Pad Thai - Stir-fried rice noodles, shrimp, bean sprouts, peanuts, and a savory and slightly sweet sauce Thai Cucumber Salad with Red Onions and Peanuts - Perfect paring with the shrimp pad Thai Sounds good. We left after work and the drive out JTB to Beach Blvd wasn't bad at all. Parking was easy for me as I was able to slip into an open spot right in front of the entrance but it seems like the patrons of the Pilates studio took over most of the area. Watching them come and go was interesting. The studio is gorgeous. I love that they were growing herbs outside and inside the doors. The space is different from what I'm used to with cooking schools as the stations were on the side walls facing away from the center and a group seating at a table in the center. It ended up being 9 of us that could come out and we had a blast. Thanks for offering the water and wine to start, though some of us went hard for the wine lol. Starting the class, we were shown step by step how to make the dish up front at the chefs counter and then we divided up into teams to make the dish. Me and my partner messed up a few of the specific cutting techniques, left out seasonings, and even burning one of the lumpias just the make sure that the pork was done. It's fine we still ate everything and were really full by the end. Everyone got home safely and I haven't seen the photos yet but I'm sure they will have lots of smiles and laughs. We also got a copy of the recipes to take home and make again. While I'm not as confident I can do better than what I did in class I'm willing to give it another try. I've taken several cooking classes over the years, some in the cities where I lived, and other times, on vacation. I see this place frequently on drives down Beach Blvd and I've been wanting to stop in. I recently found an open class at the last minute for "iconic Italian cuisine" and signed us up. The class is from 6:30 to 9 PM and it starts with a brief welcome by the chef, followed by demonstrations throughout the night and a return to our cooking station to re-create the dish that we were just shown how to make. There was a brief break early on for us to eat our appetizer before we actually sat down for our entree, sides, and dessert. I really enjoyed the evening. My one suggestion would be for those who don't or can't drink wine, it would be nice if they offered lemonade, iced tea, soda, or something other than just water, particularly since the wine appeared to be included in the cost of the meal. Otherwise, we had a great time and plenty of leftovers. I look forward to returning. read more

We went to a cooking class for 4th of July sweet treats. The studio has available parking which is shared with the other businesses. We were promptly greeted at the door and ushered to our table and cooking station. We received excellent instructions and used the pre-measured ingredients to create desserts above the level of my skillet. We made no bake cheesecake with a flag motif made of berries, iced sugar cookies , red velvet cupcakes and strawberry shortcake with a buscuit base. Drinks were provided from water to lemonade to a variety of wines. The team was very helpful and supportive. The studio was clean and stocked with everything we needed. The studio also has classes for kids,adults and teens with a wide variety of cuisines. It's worth a visit! read more

This was a wonderful Christmas gift from my parents. We learned how to make French onion soup, chicken Coq au Vin, chocolate mousse and mashed potatoes. The venue is dreamy and fit for a cook's imagination. There are tons of pans, oven, utensils, kitchen aids and bowls. Sparks all the creativity. The Sioux chef was very helpful and friendly. The head chef was knowledgeable, entertaining, witty, and a bit cold. When we had questions, he did not respond with kindness and he rushed us into the next part of the class clearly indicating that we weren't keeping up. Learning how to cook new things is a vulnerable thing. Being shut down was rough. Also, at the end of the class our chicken wasn't cooked through, so we had to take our entree to go and finish cooking at home. Love this concept, and I hope to go back sometime. read more

I almost did not write a review in hopes people would not fill up the classes. I had an amazing time. The instructors are helpful and nice. Genuinely nice and not the generic customer service nice. Everything is set up and portioned out so I did not have to worry about how hot the oil was or what the measurements were. They took out the non-fun parts of cooking. The food was also excellent. I had known about Jax Cooking studio for awhile but had never visited, I knew it was a little bit more expensive then some other cooking classes around town, but a friend invited me to come to a class with her and I was thrilled to go try it! She picked a seafood feast as the theme of the night, and we ate SO good! Walking in it's very pretty inside, you're greeted with wine which is always welcomed! individual table set up and separate cooking units so what you make you eat, which is cool I've been to cooking classes where everyone makes a dish then everyone shares it. The chef is up at the front he calls you up and you watch him make the first dish, then you go make it with assistants walking around to help if needed! Our menu was: Seared scallops on a fancy salad with homemade vinaigrette dressing Crispy skin salmon- a first for me! She was a natural showing us how the recipes would be made snd then cooked..from start to finish then we went to our station (stove with all cookware) snd did the same. We made a caramelized pear /Brie tart, butternut squash/spinach quiche where we made the pie crust to it, made maple glazed apple Turkey sausages, had a nice autum harvest salad with our made apple cider vinaigrette snd apple cinnamon crisp. I took two classes (was given a gift certificate for my birthday) - cake decorating and Indian cuisine were what I chose (the site is easy to navigate). The facility is clean, and the chefs were really good at explaining without making things boring. I have good experience cooking and baking at home but still came away with great tips and had a really fun time. Each time I brought home a ton of delicious food too! They also print the recipes you work on so you can take them home. You basically watch a demo of part of the menu you'll be preparing and get instructions (they have an overhead camera and monitors setup so you can see everything) and go back to your station and copy it (recipes are taped to the wall in front of you too to follow along). Then you go back, watch another demo and repeat. The chefs are very nice and both of mine were also funny too which made for a light, fun atmosphere. For the baking, I shared a standmixer with another solo attendee, and we made buttercream frosting together, but otherwise, it was all separate work. For the cooking, sharing the (large) stovetop was slightly more tricky but totally doable. So if you go by yourself, don't worry - it's still really great. I think going with a friend or for a date night would be awesome too. The head and sous chefs and others are also moving about to answer questions and give tips to guide you along. I'll definitely be going back for another class soon! read more

I have now taken 9 classes at Jax Cooking Studio with 4 different instructors, so obviously I like the place! The format of the class is that everyone goes up front and watches the chef prepare 1-2 parts of the meal, then you go back to your station and prepare them yourself. The chef, sous chef and another employee will come around checking on everyone. I find this really helpful when making doughs or things that need to come to a particular texture. Then you'll repeat the process for any remaining parts of the meal. And you get to eat! I have always taken a lot of leftovers home. They have boxes for everyone. Also they have printouts of the recipes for everyone to take home. I love that everything is already measured for you. It saves time so you can fit more into a class. And I love even more that you don't clean up anything! They are so quick to come around and pick up things everyone is finished with. Lastly, I have really liked all the recipes I have made in all the classes. read more

I was internet stalking the Jax Cooking Studio for the next opportunity to take the Lumpia and Pancit cooking class- because John and I both love these dishes and was thrilled to make reservations! We took this class the night before leaving for vacation and I was worried about leftovers- but it was the perfect amount of food. They have red & white wine and water for you to help yourself to. Plenty of cooking stations- each wall lined and even an extra station back by the master chef station. Tables were in the center of the room so you can enjoy your meal after preparing it. The staff is fantastic! I have a food allergy and only one dipping sauce interfered with that and the chef made a special sauce just for me and made sure to give me the ingredients so I could replicate it at home. As for the lesson- the chef does a main demo at the big station also with a camera feed to a tv screen- so everyone can see it. Then you get sent back to your individual stations to recreate the steps yourself. There is also the recipe hanging right in front of you. I did find that the recipes steps differed from how the chef demonstrated it. I tried my best to follow the chef- but defaulted to the recipe if I couldn't remember something. We started with our dessert- flan and the lumpia rolls. Both were surprisingly easy and I normally don't like flan- but I enjoyed it very much here. The lumpia was great- John stole some of mine and he had three big ones to my 2 smaller ones. The pancit was trickier- my noodles were undercooked- so I had to throw them back into the pan. The did not use the clear noodles- but I think I will try that kind at home when I do this recipe again. We also made a side of bok-choy and it was delicious! Chef Kimber and her team never disappoint. What started out as a random date night find has turned into one of our favourite activities together. We can't wait to come back and we're always checking the schedule for new classes. JAX Cooking Studio is a beautiful little spot tucked in a strip off Beach Blvd. They offer an array of different classes, we've attended both the Autumn Harvest and Flavours of India classes. The meal was delicious in both. Chef Kimber keeps the energy upbeat and fun. She is engaging through every demonstration making it easy to follow and quick to pick up. All ingredients are pre measured and ready to go. She explains all the techniques and tricks as she walks through the demos. The team walks around to continuously help as you prepare your own meal. The pace is perfect, allowing you time to finish working on the steps before heading back to the chef's station to watch the next part. Great place to learn a new skill, especially now that people are learning to cook and be healthy during this pandemic . I decided I wanted to learn to make my own bread and what's better than a beautiful sourdough bread with some compound butter! The class was divine. The space is immaculate and the chefs Nancy and Jackie, are passionate and upbeat. We learned how to start the bread and knead it . Then after making the bread, we made a compound butter which we could add our own flavors to - my husband ate through half of it already! At the end we made a fondue and ate it with the warm bread and OMG! As I said before, it was divine and I can't wait for my next class. I have been watching the Jax Cooking Studio site for a while, waiting. My husband and I only have a day off together every other weekend, and we are on night shift. To say it's sometimes difficult for us to find things to attend together, is an understatement. I finally saw a class that not only fit our schedules, but it was also something that we were both really excited to make! I signed us up and then the hard part-waiting for the day to come! The website is really user friendly and it was a breeze to purchase our tickets for the Family Night, homemade pasta class!   When our day came we drove over to the location and walked on in! We were greeted by one of the Chefs right away and she showed us where our cooking station was. The inside is a beautifully designed set up. There are cooking stations lining the outer walls that have all the equipment you need, with hand washing stations in between them. Then in the center of the room are the dining tables that have place settings ready for you to eat the food that you create. In the back of the room is the Chef station, and it is set up just like the ones you work in as a student, but set up so that you can watch also on three tv's in the front of the room-pretty clever! We got some aprons and we were all ready to go! The owner even came over and chatted some with us, which I thought was a nice touch. Pretty soon the class was starting, and we were introduced to all the Chefs and staff and told a little about what to expect. I really really wish I had written down the names of everyone, they were all so amazing and kind and helpful! A million thanks to the whole staff.   Pretty soon we were sent to our stations and everything was set up for us to make some homemade pasta dough, bolognese sauce, ricotta filling (all put together into a lasagna) a ceasar salad and tiramisu that we did with a little help from some premade items!  I have long wanted to try this, but was a little intimidated before. The instructions and demonstration took all the anxiety away and we were able to just enjoy the experience together. I do possess a bit of cooking knowledge and skills, however there is nothing I can think of now more exciting than making pasta from scratch.  We were given ample time to make sure all the tasks got done, but we were still not rushed in any way. The class was two and a half hours and I thought it flowed at a really perfect pace. The staff members circulate during the time you are creating your masterpieces, giving positive feedback and answering questions or just chatting with everyone. It really is an awesome laid back atmosphere for learning.   After all the cooking and laughing, we sat down to eat our little labors of love. We started with the salad while our lasagna finished in the oven and then rested a bit. Then the moment of truth..how had we really done? It turned out so so so so good y'all!! Followed by the tiramisu that was creamy chocolatey and delicious! All our left overs were packed up for us and we were sent away with smiles on our faces. We are still talking about the fun time that we had, and the amazing food we made. Stephen and I like to try new things and decided when we got married just a handful of months ago; that we would always have adventures with each other, no matter what it was. What a wonderful Sunday l. I decided to sign my 14 year old niece and I up for a cooking class at Jax Cooking Studio located on Beach Blvd. The experience was unmatched from start to finish. It was such a joy being submerged in the experience of making pastries. I'm honestly very overwhelmed with baking, but the pastry Chef did a wonderful job walking us step by step to make the lovely treats. We were even able to bring home dough to make additional treats at home. My niece couldn't stop saying how good of a time she had. This activity is excellent for a teen or even a preteen. They fill up quickly so you're usually looking at least a few weeks out, sometimes months if you want a specific class. The last class my husband and I took was Harry Potter themed. It was really cool- the food was amazing and themed nicely to HP and they had fun decorations. All of the instructors are nice and very helpful.
