    Mixing the scents
    Maisha R.

This was a fun afternoon activity. Walking in, we were greeted by one of the store employees who walked us through the relatively simple process of choosing scents, finding a jar, joining her at the bar smell our combinations, and making our products. They have an abundance of options for scents, 93 to be exact. So, there was a lot of smelling to be done. The variety was impressive - from fruits to foods like basmati rice, chai tea, pecan pie, maple syrup, creme brûlée, and baked bread, to other things like dad's den, lemongrass, mahogany, and patchouli. Given the proximity to the holidays, winter options like Christmas tree, candy cane, and pumpkin spices were in the mix as well. The employee helping us had us smell the scents we had chosen in combination, and she recommended that we choose two to three for the candle. Once we were able to smell the oils, it was easier to narrow down our choices. She poured the hot wax into the jars we'd chosen, and we stirred in our mixes. We repeated the process for the body sprays. After grabbing lunch nearby, we returned 90 minutes later to pick up our products and they were ready on time. The jars ranged from $25-$35 and the body sprays were $18. They have a deal - buy three and get one free so we ended up doing that. I look forward to returning to perhaps make some body scrubs, lotions, oils for diffusers, and maybe other candles.

I'm hooked! I stopped buying candles a long time ago and now opt for the wax melts instead. When a friend mentioned coming here to make candles I thought it was a dumb idea and a waste of money quite honestly. I couldn't have been more wrong! From the time you walk in and start testing (smelling) the different scents you can create...your mind starts turning. Not only can you make a candle or wax melts, but you can make lotions, body sprays, hand soaps, and diffusers as well. Plus, if you are like me and don't burn candles, you can just let it melt on a warmer...and you can purchase those here too if you don't have one. The combo of scents are limitless! Not to mention it's a lot of fun whether you are alone or with a group of friends! Most candles take 90 mins to cool, while other larger ones can take up to 2 hours. You can pick them up on another day and they will keep them for up to 3 months. Or since you are in San Marco...plan accordingly to have lunch, or whatever, to kill time while they cool. Of course, some items like lotions, hand soaps, etc. you can take away right away. The prices are fair and they do offer a buy 3, get 1 free option. They also offer a uniform discount with proof of ID (huge thanks for that). There is a parking lot that is ample. The staff is super friendly and extremely welcoming. And no worries if you don't know what goes with what...they will help you whether it's your first time, tenth time, etc. Moreover, they offer holiday scents during certain times of the year and even special holiday candle containers. If you are looking for a unique gift, why not make it? Want to do something different with friends...check it out! You won't be disappointed!

I'm so glad I was invited to THe Wick. I told everyone I knew about what an amazing time I had. My best friend and about 15 other ladies reserved the entire facility for a bridal shower. They were able to bring in food and drinks. The staff was hilarious and very patient because it was most of our first time there. They went over all the safety rules first and we were allowed to go and smell all the hundreds of fragrances in the facility so we can make our candles. We made 2 candles a piece but there was other options to make body sprays also which I thought was cool. We created our own labels for our candles which was funny because I'm not creative at all lol. I candles turned out lovely, every one had a blast due to the staff and how educated they were on the product. The facility was extremely clean. There were wash stations to keep our hands clean. 10/10 I definitely recommend

Activity for family or girls day at a reasonable price. Puck your scents and then the type of candle vessel. Then you can mix your scent to your liking you can swap out the candle for a lotion base or body scrub. Once you craft your scents and mix in the wax you can grab a bite or a drink while the candles cures at one of the close options in San Marco. Fun concept that is simple.

Great couple or group date. Josh was very nice. He helped us with our candle. There were so many scents to choose from. They have different prices for the size of jar. When finished, come back later to pick up the candle. It was a great experience.

Omg, this place was very nice, and love the wall sampling of smells from books to autumn leaves to sea kelp! Very interesting senses!!! Came here during the first week of February with a girlfriend in the afternoon. The staff was friendly and welcoming. You could also make fragrance oils, room diffusers, body mists, etc. The candles are made out of natural soy wax which is great! The staff gave us a form to fill out so could write down our top smells. Out of the majority of smells I wrote down and smelling the oil, the top three were Goji Berry, Sea Kelp, Earl Grey Tea. I chose a nice blue-green jar. It was cool mixing the oils to find the perfect smell for our candle. It also takes about 90 minutes to be made and cooled so we left for lunch and picked it up afterward. Overall, we enjoyed the candle-making experience and recommend this place for couples, families, teams, children, friends, and dates. Can't wait to return and make more candles!

I have a couple of birthday shenanigan friends- my first Jacksonville friends I made when I moved here 5 years ago- and we celebrated my recent birthday with candle making! Wick had been on my radar for a little while- it's been years since I had tried my hand at candle making, and this candle bar gives you everything you need to create your own scent with 90 scents to sniff and choose from! That's right- 90. My first question was- do you have something to help cleanse the palette between scents? The smell of the shop was already incredible! They did- a bag of coffee beans! Perfection. You get a little clipboard and you scent sheet to list as many scents as you like as you're sniffing you way down them all. I was shocked how many I liked and how many I had no idea I would like! The wall has three sections- and we each started at a different section and were laughing at the various head jerks back when we smelled something we didn't like. Truthfully- there was one scent I didn't bother trying- black pepper. And one of my friends chose that one and I ended up smelling it later! I found 2 scents I was completely nose blind to- couldn't smell them at all! My gf Naomi had the same problem. Once you have your list- it's time to pick out what candle or other item you are making. They have a special right now- buy 3 get one free. So I got to make 2 thanks to my amazing friends! I chose the copper looking jar to fill! Naomi went with the blue glass jar and Tiff grabbed the clear jar with a lid. Off to the candle making bar! We set off to find our perfect scent blends and fill our 1/2 ounce jigger with the oils and were stirring our scents into our candles super quick! We also had to create our labels! I went full artistry mode and even made Tiff's butterfly wings for her label, meanwhile Naomi just wrote what scents she used. Each to their own. 90 minutes later we return to pick up our candle treasures! Thank you to Bekah (I am pretty sure that is how to spell her name)- she was our fantastic candle expert! I can't wait to return! John even wants to go! He saw they have bourbon scent! It was on my list for ones I liked! My candles: Chocolate-ginger ale- goji berry Black & tan- Yuzu- burnt sugar

I've been looking for a reason to do this and finally made a suggestion to a friend about this as a event. They gave us a Monday night when they are usually closed as we had a full room. They give you a clipboard at entry and you get to smell the huge selection of fragrances they offer by use of candles they have. You can pick as many as you like. After you have a seat and start the process of mixing the scents to your approval and than adding them to the item you choose to make. They offer many things besides candles so check out their website. As we started to do our mixology instruction the room filled with Beautiful smells. Some you could capture quickly like lemon grass or Christmas tree others you had to think about like champagne or cashmere. It turned out to be lots of fun and a great way to spend time with friends. I loved the fact instead of getting a candle in a bag for a gift you get so much more. Interaction. Joy and your choices of scents and it gets all wrapped in a beautiful bag to take home for the same price as a nice candle.. I know understand their great history in San Marco as cause it's fun and they are so friendly.

    90 different scents

Such a fun place whether you're going solo, with friends, on a date, etc. There are 90 scents to choose from. You write down what scents you like and then they help you pair two or three together to create the perfect scent for you. You then mix the scents you chose together until you get a scent that you like. The candle takes 90 mins to form. You can wait the 90 mins or come back another day to pick it up. You can also create a spray or lotion if you don't want to make a candle. My three scents were eucalyptus, key lime, and bourbon. You also create a label for your candle jar.

Such a fun date place. 1st you walk in and are greeted by a friendly staff. They give you instructions and then you go about smelling all the fabulous scents they have. They recommend you choose no more than 3 to mix into your candle. Then once you've selected which scents you want you go to the table where you are given the jar or tumbler that you chose and you mix in your scents. You stir and your candle is set within a few hours. Very cute place, fun date or girls night idea. It's also BYOB

Have been wanting to try this place for over a year and finally made it in with a girlfriend. We had so much fun and loved the scents so much we each made too. Beck & Rosa were also beyond amazingly helpful, funny, and enjoyable to hang out with. We brought a bottle of wine and then grabbed dinner within walking distance afterwards. Definitely will return to make more candles, scrubs, etc.!

Let me start by saying what I was expecting. I thought this would be an experience you had to plan like 2 weeks in advance. I was also expecting it to cost $$$ big bucks. I'm happy to say that I was wrong with both of these assumptions! We walked right in, had everything explained to us and got to candle making! We decided to just make a shared candle and it cost us about 20 bucks. Considering that I could go and spend the same amount at bath and body works for a pre-made candle full of paraffins, I was very happy with that price. We had such a good time that I plan on bringing my family the next time they're in town! Big shout out to Rosa for helping us make the perfect candle! She was so friendly and attentive and we even had a really rad discussion about music! Hope we get to see her again next time we're there! (Disclaimer: their website does encourage a reservation to be made for groups of 4 or more. So while this was a fun spur-of-the-moment date-night trip, it's good to plan ahead with a bigger group or on a busy day)

    Smelling the three scents together

Absolutely love this place! The candles smell so good! Came with my daughter and sister when we had a little down time before my daughter's curtain call. You can make more than just candles, soap, scrubs, and wax scent drops. We made candles, Hampton told us for every three items we purchased we got one for free so we made a total of four candles. After the scents are written down you pick the type of container you would like; then decide which three you like that pair well together to mix into your candle. Then you can make your label for the candle. The Wick representative then has you stir the scents into the hot wax. The candle needs to cool for 90 minutes then you can pick it up. They will hold your items up to 90 days.

Don't sleep on your local bookstores!…read more We participated this morning in a group walk and afterward, of course we had to stop into the bookstore! It's basically the law - you're in San Marco square, you go to San Marco book store. The book selection is ever evolving so there is always some new treasure to discover among the stacks. And often, I find books in there less expensive than Amazon. And there is a selection of books with author signatures as well, for no additional cost. Some of the signed ones have been ordered from the publisher, but a good portion of those come from live author events the book store participates in. There are so many wonderful events you can attend here, like the author signings mentioned above (and of course a slew of other things) And often, those authors will sit for a chat. I discovered a new favorite author when I accidentally stumbled into one of those events. It was neat to hear her discuss her book and answer some great questions. The. Store is also very involved in the community around them which I love. (The owner even participates in the group walks in the area sometimes!) They also partner with the library for some larger author signings and other events. If you love reading, this is a must visit!

The clerks were very helpful in pointing me in the right direction. They even had two local authors there showing off their books. Highly recommend to check it out.
