Super cool sandwich place kinda in the middle of nowhere between Hiawassee and Hayesville. Barely over the NC line. This place gets busy! There is a good reason for that. Really good sandwich's and wraps with great service. Not fast but great! There is a few picnic tables outside to eat at. Most grab it to go. Many to take on the boat or for a picnic! The wraps I have had have been hot, juicy and super yummy! They come with a bag of Utz chips, a pickle spear, and a cookie. Super cool place to grab some lunch! They do breakfast too. The quaint and casual Pic-A-Nick has outdoor seating including (you guessed it) picnic tables! There's a swing which brought out the kid in me and it's in a quiet, picturesque area. I'll be honest, I was a little nervous to see the cashier packing heat, but the service was great, and the food was even better! HOURS Tuesday through Saturday, 8:00 am to 3:00 pm for breakfast and lunch. SERVICE Friendly and attentive! The staff made suggestions and were very considerate of my allergies. FOOD Fresh and diverse! I haven't tried breakfast yet but there is a variety! Prices range from $4 - $6. There's the Elvis (banana, peanut butter, honey & bacon on country white bread), Avocado Toast, and Breakfast Burritos stuffed with veggies, eggs, cheese & bacon/sausage. They have Bagelwichs (egg, cheese, ham/sausage/bacon), Breakfast Bowls (fried potatoes, eggs, meat, cheese) and grilled sandwiches on sourdough bread. Yum! My Philly Cheesesteak Wrap with tomatoes, lettuce, mushrooms, peppers & melted provolone was divine! They also have tuna, BLT, club, Lebanon (bologna), Reuben, chicken salad and burgers! I can't wait to try the Russian Wrap with corned beef, Swiss, jalapenos and bacon! Sandwiches ($6-$10) come with chips, pickle & a tiny cookie. They ran out of chips but were kind enough to substitute a delicious side salad made with mixed greens (not iceberg), walnuts, cranberries, tomatoes and cucumbers. They even make their own dressing! Wonderful spot for sandwiches near Lake Chatuge! I had first read about the Pic-A-Nick Basket Deli in an article in Travel & Leisure Magazine about the lake. We had Dottie's Chicken Salad and Kenny's Club sandwiches. The chicken salad was creamy with a hint of sweet pickle relish. The club was delicious, too. All of the ingredients were fresh. Sandwiches were wrapped well and packed in a box which was perfect to put in the coolers for our boat ride that afternoon. The food was delicious, but what you need to know is that this is not a restaurant. It's a sandwich stand, where it looks like most of their business is to go. You could eat in your car or.....at one of the picnic tables there. I was there on a beautiful sunny afternoon so lunch under the trees was great. But you probably don't want to go there on a rainy day. About the food. My wife had their club sandwich and totally loved it! I didn't even get a taste. I had the "Elvis" sandwich which I had often heard about but never tried. Peanut butter and banana with bacon, drizzled with honey. It was yummy. Pic-A-Nick was recommended to us by a local in Hiawassee so we thought we would try it. Spouse got the cheeseburger, it was a good sized burger. I tried the "Kracken" which has lettuce ham, bacon, tomato, and pickles on sourdough. They were out of ham and offered to substitute turkey instead. The sandwich was nice and fresh. Been getting lunch here for more than a year now and we keep going back. The prices have gone up but it is still worth it. The old adage "You get what you pay for" rings true here. I love the QUALITY and ATTENTION TO DETAIL they provide. I've tried about half the items on the menu and have never been disappointed. Favorites are definitely the Johnny's Philly and Gerta's Reuben grilled on marble rye. The portions are just right, not huge but there is plenty to fill you up. Your food comes very neatly wrapped and sealed with cute little deli seals in a lunchbox. Each lunchbox includes your sandwich, a pickle spear, a cookie, napkins, and a wet wipe. Keep in mind this is a TAKEOUT place with no eat in dining room. You can eat outside if you want but I always carry my food home or to the boat. I call ahead, they tell you how long it will take and they are accurate on the timing. They are generally quick but by calling ahead it makes this a 3 minute stop to pick up your order, pay, and be on your way. Sometimes they have a line so calling ahead saves you time. The staff is super friendly. They will customize your order however you like. I've gotten take out dozens of times and have never had a single mix up or bad experience. We spend our winters in Hayesville. Drove past a zillion times and always wondered what it was like. So, went to breakfast there--four of us. They even made substitutions so my husband could eat (He's got celiac.). Food was great. Service was outstanding. Weather was nice so we sat outside at a picnic table. Pulling up to the building you go to the order/pick up window to get your food. The staff again were super friendly and thankful. We order chicken and kids tuna salad sandwiches and greek salads. We had driven past this deli a hundred times and kept saying we needed to stop some day. Well, we did and we sure are glad we did. The lady who was working (she may have been the owner) was friendly and fun. We ordered and took our food over to the picnic table to eat while enjoying the beautiful views of Lake Chatuge.
