One thing I really appreciate is that it's never overly crowded, so whether you're dining solo or with friends, you can enjoy a relaxed meal without feeling rushed. I've tried several Ethiopian restaurants around the city, and I personally prefer Bahel over Desta. My favorites are the sambusas, lamb tibs, kitfo, and goden tibs. For the sides, the greens and misir are always a must. Whenever I'm craving Ethiopian food, Bahel is my go-to. Consistently delicious and always worth the visit!

The menu had several dishes we've had at other Ethiopian restaurants, so we ordered familiar items to compare. We went with the Bahel 1 Combo and chose chicken tibs, doro wot, shiro, gomen, and yellow lentils. The food was ok. The Doro Wot had a sweeter taste than I'm used to, but it was decent, and the Chicken Tibs had a strong tomato flavor (not 100% sure it was tomato, but that's what came through), which didn't really work for me. The Shiro was excellent, though. I could've eaten that with some injera all by itself. Overall, the experience was pleasant and the service was welcoming, but flavor-wise it didn't quite hit enough for us to make it our go-to spot when we're craving Ethiopian food.

I'm pleased to have discovered this gem when it comes to Ethiopian cuisine. Like many, my first…read moreintroduction was through Desta. I learned to appreciate the tibs, awaze for spice, and shiro along with injera. But if Desta is an entrance to this food, Kategna is the next level up. The storefront itself is humble and tucked away out of sight on Buford Highway. Right upon entering, I smelled burning incense to queue me in that this was different than even my previous experiences. There was booths and small tables. I think you could do a larger party but it'd been to be spread out. It's best for parties of 4. The decor is well loved and there's a counter up front where you can go and pay when you are done. For lunch, they have specials but I decided tk get a Kategna injera as an appetizer and then Yetebaberut (spiced ground beef). Speaking with the waitress running the front of the store, I decide to play it safe and go medium spice and medium for how cooked the beef is. Kategna injera - this is life changing. I enjoy injera but an injera fried in a pan so it's crispy and flaky in different parts and coated in awaze? Wow. This will pretty much be my go to dish every time I come in the store and I will recommend it to anyone I bring. This was so incredibly delicious that I know my words are failing to convey just how good this is. Get it if you are in the store. Yetebaberut - delicious. It's mixed with collard greens and feta cheese and goes well with the basket of injera. I ate half of it (2 injera and half the bowl) and took the rest to eat at lu cb again the next day. All in all, Kategna Ethiopian is the new standard for Ethiopian in Atlanta. If you're planning in going to Desta, I'd steer you here instead. I can't wait to bring my coworker and then my wife and then some family friends (the husband's wife is Ethiopian).

It's a little small place where it can fit about 35 to 40 people comfortably at once. We have joined like 4 to 5 tables and were about 20 people. Abol Cafe, Restaurant and Mart has the most authentic Ethiopian food you'll ever taste in the state. My order for the day was Tenderloin tibs, cubes of filet mignon cooked with onion, tomato, jalapeno, and Abol spices and served with Injera in a basket of 5 rolls on the side for the tibs. Injera comes in regular as well as in gluten free version. I preferred the regular one. Injera is a sourdough-risen flatbread with a slightly spongy texture. Traditionally made out of teff flour, it is the national dish of Ethiopia and Eritrea. It is central to the dining process in those cultures as bread is the most fundamental component of any meal. Tibs is the name for one of the cooler Ethiopian dishes out there. It's a hybrid stir fry and stew that comes together in an instant, is meaty, rich and can be spicy as hell. Served with bread, rice or more properly injera flatbread, it was and now it is my favorite Ethiopian dish. Food here has just the right flavors. It's a little different kind of dinning experience, in a good way. Here you eat with your hands not using any silverware. I am used to it in my culture, so it's not an issue or weird for me. They also have a good variety of vegetarian food and tasty Ethiopian coffee. They are located in the Plaza Fiesta. Ample free parking is available in front and around the restaurant. Not too crowded, authentic presentation, delicious meals, clean atmosphere and excellent service. Kudos to our server Christy who was very helpful and friendly. A kind of restaurant I would return and I highly recommended this place to give a try.

It was completely inedible and unsafe. The plantains were just as disappointing. They appeared cooked on the outside, but the inside was still raw and undercooked. It's hard to understand how something as basic as plantain could be prepared so poorly. To make matters worse, Uber Eats did not provide a full refund, despite the food being unfit to eat. I would strongly advise others to avoid this place. My experience was extremely disappointing, and the quality of the food was unacceptable.

Visited 6 June 2026…read more Overall, we had a good experience. Parking is shared with other businesses in the plaza, but there is plenty of available parking, including enough space to accommodate 18 wheeler trucks. When we first arrived, the older employee seemed a bit intense. He encouraged us to take our time reviewing the menu, but remained nearby watching us before we ordered. He also came across as somewhat aggressive while my friend was placing their order. After another customer voiced a complaint and left, his demeanor appeared to improve and the remainder of the visit was more pleasant. The food portions were very generous. We ordered the goat with chapati, which resembles roti skin, and two people were able to share it comfortably and leave satisfied. We also shared the king fish and rice, which was excellent and still left us with leftovers. Another friend ordered the tibis with spaghetti, and that portion was large enough that leftovers had to be taken home as well. The menu described the tibis as spicy, but we did not find it spicy at all. The food was flavorful, the portions offered great value, and there was plenty of seating available. While the service could have been more welcoming at the start, the quality and quantity of the food made for an enjoyable dining experience overall.
