A few years ago I went on vacation to Lebanon and I am always comparing the food in LA to what I ate in Beirut. It was around 11pm when I went inside and checked out the menu. I ordered my favorite item which is the chicken shawarma with fries. The wrap was a decent size and the flavor was pretty good but I would've preferred some garlic sauce or hummus for more flavoring. The hubby and I'd just come out of a show at the Roxy and wanted some food. Lucky for us this place was just across the street and still open--one of the few still serving food. It was jumping with the late night crowd but we were able to find a table. We just got a cheese pie to share, which was good--gooey and perfect at 1am-ish. He was rude from the start, clearly just trying to get quick money out of us. He called us over about an "order minimum," pushing extra items to hit it. At some point he brought up water and implied we were drinking tap water instead of buying bottles we hadn't even asked for tap specifically, he just said it to make us look cheap in front of others. I called him out on it. He backtracked and tried to shake my hand, which I declined, and I kept asking why he'd said that. He never gave a real answer. As we were leaving, my friend was still confused about what had just happened and was looking over, and the same owner told him "what the f are you looking at." Completely uncalled for. Phi on Sunset was such a pleasant surprise! I ordered the Veggie Delight platter, and every item was fresh and flavorful. The standout, hands down, was the Baba Ghanouj--silky, smoky, and easily the best I've had in a long time. I also love that their grape leaves are made in-house, not canned like many other places. This was tough. The wrap was really good, but it was super small. I ordered a kefta wrap and picked it up. As I walked away, I noticed how lightweight the bag was. It honestly felt like I just had fries in the container. When I looked that wrap it was half wrap with a little bit of meat. It was $12 so I think they expect you to upgrade your meal to $16 and get the fries but I wanted to be healthy. Pro-Tip: Parking is rather difficult. It's meter'd parking or bust pretty much. However, from 7 am- 7pm on one of the residential side-street you can find parking most likely, but you might have to walk a little uphill. Ordered the kabob chicken salad because i have the marathon soon and wanna eat healthy. Salad was fresh, and I really enjoyed the oil and acidic vinaigrette dressing. There's nothing like a good hookah and authentic food in the middle of the night on Sunset Boulevard. This place feels like an extended home and the regulars just add to the ambience. I hate giving small businesses less than 4 stars but ....I ordered through UberEats, so I'm not sure if my mediocre experience was due to the meal being takeout. I ordered (1) the kefta plate and (2) side of falafels. The kefta was pretty bad, unfortunately. The texture was dense and rough, didn't have that typical Smokey flavor.
