    A HK cafe that has been a staple restaurant in this area for a while now. Was suggested to come here from my family so decided to pay them a visit again. Even during a snow storm, there was a line and wait to get a table during peak lunch hours on a weekend - a good sign! Service is quick and food comes out fast. Some hit or miss dishes though: Club sandwich 3/5 - Usually love club sandwiches but was thrown off with this one since it came with beef instead. Bread was nice and buttered, and the egg was fluffy. Would be better if this was made with another protein instead. Bittermelon spareribs rice 3.5/5 - A pretty standard dish that isn't too bad here. Lemon tea 4/5 - A HK cafe staple. They do it pretty okay here so no complaints. Haianese chicken rice 4/5 - What this restaurant is best known for. The chicken was silky and soft. Rice was seasoned and delicious. Would get this again! Fried octopus 4/5 - A great dish to share with the table. Nicely battered and crispy with a slight chew to the octapus. Overall, a good dining experience but I'm not dying to come back asap.

    Located just by Woodbine and Steeles. This place is smaller than the other location but lots of seats. They were pretty full without a line up and my friend and I were able to get a seat right away. They have a promotion everyday buy two 30% off for lunch and dinner had a promotion too but I forgot to check it out. It comes with a drink as well. I got hot HK style milk tea and my friend got the cold milk tea. The pad thai is definitely very good and one of the best ones I've tasted. There is a mild spice and very tolerable for me as someone who can't handle spicy chips. The chicken rice dish was really good too, the honey garlic was very light in my opinion. The flavour wasn't overpowering. Rice was a lot less but came with a lot of chicken. I want to come here again for sure!

    It's decent Hong Kong style food. The price is good and the portions are fairly generous. I tried the satay vermicelli beef noodles which also comes with a drink and a piece of bread for about $11. Do note that the noodles are a bit spicy. This place does get quite busy and service can be below average.

    My first time to this restaurant (chain?). A no frills dining experience but looks quite clean. I ordered take away Hainanese Chicken/Rice and cold HK style milk coffee. The chicken was not great, it was not velvety smooth as it should be - there was a little too much 'chew', like a frozen chicken that's been over cooked or simply an older hen(?), but the rice was flavourful. The side sauces were nothing to write home about, but good enough for a no nonsense two star rating.

    Decided to be a little adventurous, chain type restaurants tend to be a hit or a miss. Nicely decorated casual modern cha chaan teng place. Normal cha chang teng menu but they also had a special 2 for dinner menu at a great inflation busting price with plenty of dish choices to pick from and a free drink is included Went with the Fish fillet with pickled mustard cabbage in fish broth & yunan vermicelli. Yeah, the dish name is long but it exactly described the dish. Surprisely the fish chunks were very large and paired well with the crunchy preserved vegs/broth. Soup had a slight mild mala spice flavor causing a slight tingly numbness in my mouth full of soup noodles.. 2nd dish was the Steak with onion paste in rice bowl, steak was braised and tender with a mild onion flavor on a bed of white rice in a bowl. Staff very friendly and efficient. Very happy with their 2 for dinner special, good value for your money, however, I noticed many diners ordering the regular entrees which looks large and delicious. This restaurant is a good representation and carries on the reputation of Chinese restaurants, their prices are reasonable, large food portions leads to getting a doggie bag so leftovers can be stretched to another meal, don't expect large tips and staff are friendly. Although majority of staff and customers speak Chinese, don't let that intimidate you, menus most of the time are in English with photos and there's usual a few staff that can speak broken English.

    Awesome Meal-for-2 Deal. Check this out! Any two items under the special limited-time menu for $25.88 (+ tax & tips). Pick TWO drinks from red bean ice, grass jelly ice drink, coffee, or tea. Any day after 4 PM. Cash only. The red bean ice drink was a little bland. Not sweet enough with not much vanilla or milk flavor. Not much taste with the red bean too. Good freshness with some chewy texture though. Some other drinks might taste better. On the other hand, the food was good and we ordered 2x 2-deals. Among the four items we ordered, the Singapore Fried Vermicelli stood out pretty clearly. The curry spiciness was there yet not overpowering the rest of the dish. Nice veggies and shrimp. I like the vermicelli texture. Not oily at all. Try it out if you visit there. It doesn't say the deal till what date. Limited time offer. Visit there while it lasts. Woodbine location only at this point. McCowan is still under renovation. People said it would probably reopen in a week. Reasonably tasty, inexpensive, and recommended!

    This location has always been one of my least favorite locations but with the bayview one closed down and more recently the yonge one also closed down, this woodbine location is the next one close by. They recently offered the two can dine set for $25.88 cash only. There's a list of things to pick from and also include a red bean icecream drink or other drinks of the same price. We opted for a steak with onion sauce rice and a Japanese style pork cutlet rice. I forgot to take a picture of the menu but the food came out to be a bit different from the picture. The steak with onion sauce rice tasted a bit too sweet to me. It's kinda like teriyaki sauce. However the steak (slices on pictures but cubed in reality) was tender. As for the pork cutlet rice, the rice to pork chop ratio wasn't ideal, too much rice, too little sauce, also on the sweeter side but the pork chop is juicy and tender. And there seem to be two sunny side up eggs on the picture but it's not in reality. We ordered cold milk tea as our drinks and it tasted more milky than we remembered. Overall decent deal. Food could be better. Service was fair. Chairs could be cleaner.

    If you're looking for Hong Kong style comfort food, this is the place. We went on a weekend and waited about 20 minutes for a table. Because it was so busy, the staff looked very rushed and a bit flustered. I know service is usually very quick but that day we went, we noticed everyone getting their food before us. We had to ask our server a few times to check on our order. It was quite loud and crowded, but that's typical HK cafe. I ordered combo set Y10 baked pork chop on rice (Japanese style) with hot milk tea and it tasted great and the milk tea was nice and strong!

FOOD Satay Beef Noodle Soup ($9.50) One of their more popular dishes, it's good: for the amount of beef with medium-sized rice noodles topped with some frozen vegetables in war, broth. SERVICE Fast and efficient - the wait staff order on mobile devices and food comes and you go fairly quickly. ENVIRONMENT It's in the street-facing end of a light industrial / commercial strip mall.     Okay, this might be my new go-to! Since my place at 407/Bayview closed, I've been lost. Where to eat HK style breakfast? Luckily, there is another Phoenix location close by. And it's pretty similar to my usual haunt! I hope they don't modernize and change their menu!

    Have come here a couple of times over the years, a huge selection of different dishes from rice to noodles to snacks. I've tried a variety of their baked dishes from pork chops to chicken cutlets. However, I've always found their food to be pretty average. I recently tried the dish pictured - fried rice with (duck? I think). The portion sizes are good and the prices are decent but the food I've always found is remarkably average. Haven't gone back in a while and haven't missed it. Not a terrible spot for a HK cafe but I don't love it myself.

    Unlike my experience with the Pheonix Restaurant downtown Toronto a few years ago, this branch in Markham was a let down. Service was fast, but there was a language barrier. The server thought I was ordering double of everything, but I had to explain to her.... no!! As for the food... the iced lemon tea was good, and the veggie dish was good too. But the hainanese chicken rice dish was not. The broth was crazy peppery. I love pepper, but even that was too much in the broth. The chicken itself was good, but the rice was not. If you see in the pic, the outer part was yellow, but the middle part was white. Clearly they used white (albeit stale) rice and then drenched the chicken oil on top. Hainanese chicken rice should be fragrant, but this was not. The search for a decent hainanese chicken rice continues.....

It takes a certain skill to make fried rice cleanly without an excessive oily coating on each grain of rice. This was one of the best fried rices I've ever had! The lid on my shredded potato salad wasn't on properly and the sauce leaked through my Fantuan bag. The food gets five stars. Sadly, the lid on my potato salad wasn't securely on the container. I had my food in my insulated bag, so the sauce leaked into the Fantuan bag and my insulated bag. Luckily, my car was fine. As a result, my rating is four stars. I wanted to try a new eatery. I looked at my Fantuan app and noticed He Bei Chinese Cuisine. It had dumplings and snacks that I enjoy, so I said yes to placing a dinner order from this eatery. I ordered these items: - Pork and chive steamed dumplings (large has 14 dumplings) - Tea eggs - Shredded potato salad On Fantuan, when you purchase $15 worth of food, you get the shredded potato salad for a cent. Deal! After placing my order near my home, I drove over to this eatery. The drive was ten minutes. I was given an estimated time of fifteen minutes. It was ready in ten minutes. I had no problem finding this eatery. There was plenty of parking. I pulled into a spot and walked in. I saw the Yubu sign. My heart sank, as I loved the Korean tofu pockets from this joint. I liked seeing places to sit down and eat at He Bei. Nice! A woman behind the counter came over. I said that I had a Fantuan order. She talked to me in Mandarin. I don't understand it, but we were fine communicating with each other in our languages. She pointed out the blue Fantuan bag on the table behind me. I thanked her and wished her a nice day. She said thanks right back. I put my food in my insulated bag. With the leak, I managed to launder the Fantuan bag and clean my insulated bag. After I cleaned up, I had dinner at home. The food was amazing and filling! I loved the shredded potato salad. Sure, a lot of the sesame-soy sauce was gone. However, it tasted yummy. It was worth the cent! The steamed pork and chive dumplings were so good. I didn't dunk them in soy sauce. The filling had so much moisture that I felt like I was eating soup dumplings. The filling had yummy flavour and the dumplings were steamed to perfection. Excellent! You can buy frozen dumplings from this place. I'll need to do it. The tea eggs were the perfect snack while streaming hockey games. I peeled the shells off both of them. The eggs were cracked to allow the amazing soy-based sauce to marinate and get into the eggs. So we ordered Maggi Lobster (~3lbs) for $34/lb, and stir fried beef with Chinese broccoli (gai lan). The lobster was cooked perfectly, with the Maggi sauce not being too salty. They definitely gave us all the pieces of the 3lbs lobster. The gai lan had a bitter aftertaste, which is common for this vegetable. I wished they had a way to get rid of that. They were generous with the amount of beef and was well marinated. The cut wasn't that great, but that is to be expected. I don't think they added much MSG or at least used good quality ones, as we did not feel overly thirsty later in the evening. They give free daily soup and dessert. What we were most impressive was with the service. The waiters were very attentive, changing our plates twice during our 1ish hour meal. The also gave us wet wipes and more napkins without us requesting it. They even offered us additional soup, which we declined as we were quite full.

When it came, I was shocked, it was only 6 pieces of Roasted Pig. When I spoke with the manager about the portion size, he commented "for that price it is fair". There was not apologies and walked away, nor was it written on the menu. If I had known it was only 6 pieces (size of your index and middle finger put together). I would not have ordered it. If you want to have Roasted Pig, you can get better deals else where. Also, ordered Marinated Chicken Feet for $13.98, when it came to table, it was also a disappointment, part of the chicken feet was dark in colour, not even sure if it was even edible or not. Another dim sum dish that I have order was the steamed chicken with fish maw. The chicken was okay, but there was only two small pieces of fish maw, (the size of each piece was 1/2 inch by 1/2 inch). The order 6 dim sum dishes that was order was mediocre, tasted better from other Dim Sum restaurant. When I received the bill for the meal it came out to be $119.50, they even had included the tip. They didn't even give me an option weather a tip was even worthy. I will definitely not be returning to this place. I definitely do not recommend anyone to come to this restaurant. I would consider blacklisting this restaurant. The individual New Century slow boiled soup is hardest to share but secure some empty bowls and you can divide the hefty portion. In the winter, there's a silkiness to the piping hot consommé that sooths a dry throat and has an umami essence infused with abalone, ginseng, and pork. There's plenty to choose from in the house signature combo platter including roasted duck, soy sauce chicken, BBQ pork, pork slices, and seaweed salad. Saving my stomach for the later dishes, I had a taste of the duck (a good start with crispy skin) and BBQ pork (satisfactory and well flavoured). With the generous portion of chicken in the combo platter, the slow cooked chicken with abalone broth seemed like overkill. I've never been a huge fan of this dish that's served cold since I prefer chicken hot. Still, I understand it's the jelly layer between the skin and meat that people enjoy. And to be fair, the chicken was tender, and New Century certainly didn't skimp on the ginger and scallion oil. For those who tend to fill-up before the "main dishes", the stars of the combo arrive mid-meal. The stir-fried Vancouver crabs with silver fish in HK style spicy sauce needs to be eaten at arrival as the crunchy coating is best straight from the fryer. And despite not looking spicy, the dish has a light heat that permeates in the background. Additionally, the crab was fresh and meaty, cooked well so it remained delicately flakey. The amount of sweet and sticky sauce used in the stir-fried lobsters with scallion in Maggie sauce was well balanced, lightly covering the crustaceans. Both lobsters were substantial; even after eating many pieces, we still had plenty of leftovers. This is a long review head to Gastro World for the rest.

No extra charge for any of that with this combo, so... why not? I got the scallion pickled cabbage fish soup (mild spice) and my friend went for the Laotan boiled fish (a bit spicier). For the snack, we picked half Taiwanese sausage and half glutinous rice cake to get both savoury and dessert vibes. When the bowls came out, they looked huge, but the portion was kinda deceiving... it's a very wide, shallow bowl, so the amount of actual soup wasn't as generous as it looked. For a fish soup restaurant, I definitely expected a deeper bowl. But the fish itself was fresh with that nice bouncy texture, plus vermicelli and a solid amount of pickled veggies. They also have a self-serve rice station with both white rice and multigrain rice. The rice cookers even have little signs showing when a new batch is cooking, which I thought was cute and convenient. Overall, flavour wise, it was solid and the promo made it worth the visit. But I am not sure if I'd come back again.

They are known for their sauerkraut fish soup that comes with unlimited self serve rice on the side. Servers were attentive, spacing of the seating and tables were tight. Often times people kept brushing up against my chair while getting up to go get their rounds of rice. Although not a deal breaker, was annoying while trying to enjoy your food. The portions are big enough for 2 if you get a large, but since it was our first time we wanted to try 2 different soups. Here's what we got: Chicken wings 4/5 - Came out raw the first time after we bit into it. But quickly flagged a server to let them know how this issue. They brought us a new one shortly after that was perfectly cooked, juicy and crispy on the outside. Laotan boiled fish with pickled cabbage and chili 4/5 - Their number one classic so we had to try. It's sour and spicy with the right amount of kick to it. Basa fish filets were also tasty. Came out luke warm. Princess's tomato fish 4/5 - Packed with tomato flavour. Savoury and paired well with the basa fish filet. Came with bean curd noodles as well. Came out luke warm. Easily would be a five star review if both soups that we got came out piping hot rather than lukewarm. Regardless, a great spot for a quick in and out meal.

Definitely generous use of Szechwan peppercorns! Food is very flavourful and depending on preference some might find the oil level high. The clientele is mainly Mandarin speaking and if you are Asian they will immediately communicate in Mandarin with you but I did see the staff switch to English where needed. Service was patient and attentive.
