C5 BBQ chicken with rice
Rika B.

We tried a few dishes here. The bbq chicken was barely has any taste and it's so dry! They use chicken breast instead of chicken thighs too. The house special pho was great and the fried rice was really good too. Just don't order the bbq chicken, you should be good

Gonna be so honest - pho was okay and the meat (other than the meatballs) taste/ feel like they are several days old. I walked in and was greeted by a large Indian woman with opened toed shoes (at a restraunt?) followed by the small lingering smell of feces on the glass of water and in the store. My only other complaint other than the waitress would be the fact that I ordered "pork spring rolls" and what came out 3 min later was a fat layer of spam. Just spam. Now don't get me wrong, love spam as much as the next person but when asked the waitress stated that it's from "the pork shoulder". Took one bite, tasted terrible, and put it right back on the plate. Not worth the 6-8 dollars for that

In my most humble opinion, Pho Vietnam has the best Pho in Johnson County. I've tried other dishes as well and all have been pretty good. But my favorite dish to get here is their eye round Pho. Their broth is so rich and you can definitely taste all the different spices. Service differs depending on who's serving that day. I usually get served by an older gentleman who's super nice and professional. The actual place is a bit outdated but they keep it decently clean. Conveniently located by Sam's and other grocery stores so if you need to make a quick grocery run, is right across the street.

Pho Vietnam is one of my favorite Vietnamese places to eat at (and I'm Vietnamese so that means a lot!) Their pho is one of the best that I've tried so far because the broth is always so tasty and never oily like other ones I've had around the area. Their meatballs are delicious and their portions are generous. The service is fast and the ambiance feels like a true authentic restaurant that you would see in Vietnam!

Super disappointed. We ordered the special and chicken pho and it was just meh.. too much noodles and not much meat. Place was pretty empty. Won't be back. There's other pho places that a lot better than this place.

The food was not bad. But the paper menu are super dirty. Wrinkle and full of food stains . The waitress brought us 2 bowls both with big chips. I pointed out and she said all the bowels are like this way. I told her this is not right and she went inside... few mins later she brought us 2 good bowls. Not satisfied for the services. Will not come back.

Hmmm this place wasn't too bad. I ordered food for delivery, so possibly it could taste different if you dine in vs delivery, but overall it got the job done and helped cure my hunger but would I order the same dish here again? Probably not. I ordered the vermicelli bowl with sliced pork and egg rolls. The egg rolls, AMAZING. Had a great crunch and when dipped in the fish sauce, even better. The pork wasn't bad, just a little on the tougher side and not super flavorful like others I've had before. I also ordered the shrimp egg rolls, and again, I've had better. The shrimp aren't grilled, which I think just add a bit more flavor to some egg rolls. I did have their sugar cane shrimp on a stick things and those were delicious!! So a couple things hit and a couple things miss.

Pho Vietnam serves a decent bowl of pho for a not-so-decent price. For being a self-service - order at the register and clean your own plates - kind of restaurant, Pho Vietnam charges a base fee of $2 more for you to dine-in as opposed to ordering take-out. A good thing to keep in mind if you live nearby. Unfortunately for us, we drove a good 20-minutes (give or take) to make it out here for pho, so take-out wasn't really an option. For a whomping $12.99 for a large bowl of pho at a self-service restaurant, the quality and quantity was a bit lacking. Noodle portions were more like a small in my opinion, and the meat quality was mediocre at best. Not to mention they sliced up the meatballs into smaller pieces, where you'd normally get a good number of halfed meatballs at another local pho joint. The broth was dark brown and a bit salty for our taste. We ended up pouring in hot water to even it out. I will say though, that the self-service vegetable station was the cleanest self-service station I've seen in a LONG while. And, their sweet potato fries and fried shrimp dish was delicious.

Vietnamese Coffee

Place is tucked away behind a Sam's Club. I was initially afraid they were closed when I got there after the lunch rush. Walked in and was immediately greeted by the host/waitress and ordered the Pho with sirloin and a Vietnamese coffee. The broth was spot on and seasoned to perfection. I ordered the Large portion and probably should have gotten the standard. They don't skimp on ingredients and portions. The coffee was served in this adorable percolator and served with another glass of hot water to be able to have a second serving. The only thing keeping me from giving it a 5 star was the the side plate that had the cilantro, mint, etc . The mint and cilantro was all stem and hard to maneuver so a lot of it kept falling on the table rendering it unusable for me. But let's be honest if that's the worst thing I can point out this is still a top notch restaurant.

So I've been to this restaurant twice and I have to say this Vietnamese restaurant is not bad. I stumbled across this restaurant on google because my mom wanted to eat some pho on a cold day. We were also just in the area. I told her that I'm not sure if there was even a pho restaurant in Overland Park because usually all the pho restaurants are back in the Missouri side. The drive for us to the restaurant is about 30 mins as well which is pretty far. If I'm in the area and craving a bowl a pho I'd come here but I wouldn't make the drive just to get a bowl of pho when I can get a bowl of pho 10 mins downtown. Food: The food here is a bit pricey, but the food is not bad. Let me start off by saying how impressed I was with their bánh mì. I ordered the bbq pork bánh mì and yall, it was that good. The bread was soft and perfectly toasted with the right amount of meat and vegetables. I don't like eating a bánh mí when the bread is extra crispy and hard and all they give you is vegetables and hardly any meat. The pho broth was really good. I do wish the broth was a bit more hot and not served warm. The broth is flavorful enough where you don't have to put extra condiments in to enhance the flavor. I'm not a fan of sweet pho broths. I like my broth salty and savory. They also give you a good amount of noodles and meat. The sugarcane pork dumlets were also not bad. The only thing I didn't care for were the crab rangoons. The crab rangoons for mid. I'll definitely come back to this restaurant again when I'm in area and craving for pho and a bánh mí. Service: Self serve on condiments, utensils, water, vegetables/herbs. Parking: Parking is basically first come first because it is a shared parking lot with a grocery market, bank and other small business.

Pho broth wasn't tradition. They definitely were not Vietnamese. Laos or Thai music was playing on the TV and they had Thai dishes.

I…read morehave been craving it ever since and for my birthday lunch this week I drove across the metro to this Lao restaurant to satisfy my craving. Khop Jai Der is a very small place with tables crowded together that made it difficult to navigate with my current and temporary situation of using crutches. I ordered the Papaya Salad and asked for moderate spice level. What I received looked nothing like my last fantastic salad. Very little sauce, a skimpy amount of papaya, pieces of cabbage that were way too large and a spice level that was way over-board. The female that brought my dish ignored me for the rest of my lunch even though she was sitting at the table next to me talking to her friends. I never got a water refill that I desperately needed and had to get up and maneuver my way to the restroom for napkins after deleting the two at the table because of severe sinus drain. I finally took 70% of my meal to the register and asked for a to-go box. I showed my Hmong co-worker the next day and he agreed that this was not the place to get what I craved. He brought me a homemade bowl of the greatest papaya salad for my lunch today so I finally did find redemption, but it wasn't from KJD. With an almost inedible $20+ lunch, inadequate and dismissive service while my digestive tract was on fire and a claustrophobic environment, I can't find a reason to recommend this place. The biggest let down that I've had in a very long time.

Service was very personable, friendly, and our entrées were outstanding! Loved my udon soup and he got N1 pad kua mee. Both of our entrées had so much flavor came out fresh and hot. This place knocked it out of the park and loved that it's locally owned and ran by two women!

I usually come here for dim sum, and it is upsetting for me to say that my husband and I should've chose somewhere else to eat for dinner. For dinner, we ordered fried rice and chow fun. Those two main entrées were okay. You can't really mess up those two fillers at an Asian restaurant. We ordered scallion pancakes- they came out soggy and soft. Not even crispy like how they usually are. The flavor wasn't there either. If I wanted microwaved scallion pancakes, then I would've bought them from the store and made them myself. My husband ordered the short ribs- they were bland and tough like rubber. It had a funky taste to it that he couldn't describe and he had to force himself to swallow it because he didn't want food to go to waste. I ordered the chicken feet- this is one of dim sum's signature dishes and I am so upset I didn't even get to enjoy one of the dishes I always order. It was dry and the flavor wasn't there. The service was fantastic. They checked in on us and made sure our water was filled. The timing of the food coming in and out was fine. The ambiance was inviting. There was a sense of urgency and I appreciated that.

If I'm to be honest, it felt like it would be expensive (it was not). Then, as I walked in, I realized the interior was even better. It is a "you have to see it to understand" type of experience. From the elegant dishes to the tables and chairs, everything fit together perfectly. It was exquisite. At this point some might say I am embellishing. They may point out nitpicked flaws. These people are those who think art must be perfect and forget nothing ever is. I digress, I'm sure you wish for me to get to food, service, and price. The food was amazing. I ordered the Tiger Cry Beef and the second the perfectly cooked, marinated, meat hit my tongue I wanted to weep. It was succulent, tender, and packed with flavor. The noodles (I had substituted) were cooked just right and the service was great. Everyone greeted me with respect and, dare I say, great cheer. They were professionally charming and warm. All of this felt as if I had found myself, quite by accident, in an upscale restaurant where every bite would cost me a fortune...yet that was not the case. The price, maybe slightly above average, was worth every penny I paid. From the beginning to the end it was an unexpected amazing experience. I recommend coming here, especially if you have a first date or anniversary. It was excellent.
