The restaurant wasn't very busy when I visited, but the service was surprisingly slow. It took a long time for my bowl of pho to come out. Sadly, the pho itself didn't meet my expectations. They took our order right away and checked to see if we needed anything. The pork spring rolls were so good! Perfect ratio of meat with the veggies and noodles. The Filet Mignon pho is so rich and flavorful, the accoutrements were all fresh and vital to the soup. Longer than what I expected. Maybe I'm just spoiled by fast food restaurants. It had all the classic components of a banh mi. Protein, pickled veggies, jalapeños, sauce. The grilled pork was delicious. Here's where I get nit picky and give feedback: The pickled vegetables usually have a nice mix of carrots and daikon. In my "extra on the side veggies" I asked for has mostly carrots. The jalapeño were spicy af with the spicy level near a Serrano pepper. But I think this is normal now as most jalapeños are super spicy now. The bread to filling ratio felt off. I'd like more insides-- meat, veggies, spread. You know, really packing in there. Whenever I took a bite I felt more bread than insides. The grilled pork actually tasted like grilled pork. Also they didn't give me too many fatty pieces which would've ruined it for it. It was a nice balance of fat and non-fatty meat. Really tasty and flavorful. I didn't taste pate. Idk if it was a light spread or Pho Rex didnt include it. Pate is what separates special banh mi from the normal ones. In my eyes, Pho Rex committed a sin. They fed me stale bread for one of the orders. Banh mi is already known for destroying the roof of your mouth. But with stale bread, it adds an extra layer of destruction. If bread was a mob in Minecraft. A regular bread would be a zombie. The stale one was a creeper. But we're human, and we all sin sometimes. Overall I did enjoy both sandwiches. Would consider coming again after the dentist. Inside, they have a nice casual set up with a good amount of seating. Wifey and I stopped by for dinner around 7pm and were seated right away. For their menu, they are pretty stacked with everything Vietnamese ranging from appetizers, rice, noodle, pho dishes, and more. We opted to try the Rotisserie Chicken (Com Ga Roti), Pho Combination (Pho Dac Biet), and the Pork Sausage Spring Rolls (Nem Nuon Cuon). Everything we had was delicious and the pho broth was valid off the first sip. Overall, we are glad to explore all the awesome Viet spots in the IE and this spot is another one added to the list. I came in cuz I was in the area, the food is ok, it was busy when I came in around 7pm, there are a lot of young waitresses/waiters, they seemed overwhelmed. I came in and pointed my finger 1 for 1 person and the girl said this table and threw the menu on the table and walked away. Wow, Great service already!!! I knew exactly what I wanted because I saw their Yelp page, the prices is a little higher , it went up 75 cents from a year ago, is not too bad. One of the girls brought me a cup of ice water and left. After looking at the menu, I'm ready to order, I raised my hand like I'm at school trying to get their attention 3 times, first it was a girl, she was coming towards my table and I thought she would stopped but didn't, she walked right past me. Then a heavier guy walked by and I thought he's going to take my order and he also walked away. I was sitting in the middle looking at all of them, I'm facing the cash register area and no one pays attention to me. The 3 rd girl was standing at the pick up order register and she looked my way, I thought she would come over to get my order but nope she just turned to her screen. At this time, I was about to get up and leave. I know that hey are busy but they have 5-6 people working the front line and not one person came over to take my order. The restaurant is not that big, they should divide it into 4 sections and each person takes care of their section. Instead of everyone taking care of everybody. Is so chaotic in there. Finally one lady, I'm pretty sure is the owner came over to take my order. So I ordered their special pho combo, with 2 pork rolls and a Thai green tea which I never had before, is ok, didn't really taste like Thai tea. The pho didn't have what I liked, the tendons. I dug around and only found 2 tiny pieces of tendons that fits perfectly on my spoon, so sad. The broth has a weird taste to it, I eaten a lot of pho in my life and I know this one tastes off, I didn't even finish it, I probably just ate 1/3 of it. The condiments was so sad looking. Is not even fresh, the Thai basil was limped, I got a tiny slice of lemon, if I squeeze it hard enough, the oil from the lemon peel would come out lol. It took forever to get the pork rolls, is like a burrito, you put everything together and roll it up, that was the last item they brought out. It should he the second thing that came out, because is an appetizer not a dessert where you get it last. After they drop off my food, not one person comes over to see how I'm doing or ask me how's the food. After tasting the pork rolls, I agreed with some of the people who said that the meat is dry. Also they should put the crushed peanuts on a spoon on the side because of people have nut allergies, they can't eat it cuz the peanuts is already on the sauce. Is better if they can choose to put the peanuts on the sauce or not, better then ending up in the ER for nut allergies. And I still tip $5 for a $30 meal that I didn't even finish lol. If you guys are in the La Puente area, stop by Oh Pho Love, they have the best summer rolls (the pork rolls) and is a couples of blocks from the West Covina Haven City food court. I love Pho Rex. It used to be Pho Mai, but luckily the flavors have not changed during name change. The broth is so flavorful and you can tell they put lot of time and effort into their craft. The service is always top notch and the food always comes out very quick. I typically get the combo pho but I decided to be a glutton today and get the beef ribs. One of those ribs were MASSIVE and I let those ribs soak up all the pho flavor. I also feel a sleeper item are the fried egg rolls. I don't know what it is about Vietnamese egg rolls but they do it so much better than any other cuisine. I would recommend going at an off peak hour because I've been during the lunch rush and it can get quite loud. Extremely Disappointing. $17 for a bowl of Bun Bo Hue with almost no meat. The meat was sliced unbelievably thin--only 1-2 tiny pieces of meat and 1-2 pieces of tendon. The cha lua was tiny and paper-thin, and the noodles were small, broken, and messy. For $17, this is simply not acceptable and very poor portion for the price. We decided to have some pho since the weather was cold and the day was gloomy; perfect pho weather. It's been hard to find a good pho spot anywhere in the Inland Empire so we were initially hesitant...until we arrived at Pho Rex. Walking up to the entrance we could clearly SMELL the beef broth aroma which is always a great sign that it'll be good. The placed was PACKED on a Saturday evening, another positive sign that it'll be good. It didn't take long after we were seated to have our orders taken and shortly after, our food arrived. We ordered several bowls of the pho dac biet. They arrived HOT and came exactly how we requested. FOOD WAS DELICIOUS! Hands down the BEST pho I've had in the Inland Empire. I was so excited to dig in that I completely forgot to take a picture before chowing down. Broth was perfectly flavorful and the balance of meat to noodles was perfect. My entire family finished their bowls down to the broth. We were stuffed! Prices were very decent compared to other places ($14.50 for large bowl and $13.50 for small bowl), well worth the value! Service was quick and friendly! I did not hesitate to let my entire family know of our "new" pho spot and recommend they try it. With the name/ownership change from Pho Mai to Pho Rex that occurred sometime after 2022, my local Vietnamese restaurant had its own menu shakeup. Out with some of my old faves-- Vermicelli with Chicken Curry (RIP ), Crispy Chicken Leg Quarter w/ Broth On Side (we hardly knew ye )-- and in with a couple concessive pan-Asian expansions with Udon and Pad Thai. But with shifting tides came a new, (literally) eye-catching addition to their phở menu: the Back Ribs. The bone-in premise led to messier fingers and more used napkins than usual, but I can't deny the novelty of the carvinorous presentation (which inspired two freshly-stoned patrons walking by our table to turn their heads and nod in approval).
