This Vietnamese restaurant is a hole in the wall. It's sad that it is not open late, but that may be to keep their quality up. As soon as I came in, the staff greeted me and asked me if I wanted to eat in or order takeout. As soon as I sat down, they gave me a glass of ice water with a lime wedge. They have hoisin sauce at every table but sriracha upon request due to the shortage. Their com tam dish did not disapppoint by any means. They give you a huge plate along with a bowl of pho broth and their fish sauce for dipping your meat in. I'm always looking for a good Vietnamese restaurant for their fried egg rolls and bun. I think I found it! I ordered the bun with bbq pork and egg rolls. The bun was served with a good sized bowl of fish dipping sauce. Other places don't give you enough sauce and when you ask for more, they act annoyed. The egg rolls were served hot and fresh. The filling was good and tasty. The bbq pork was tender and flavorful. The only downside was a few fatty pieces that I wished were more lean like the rest of the pork. The noodles, fresh veggies, and pickled carrots were also so fresh. Service was fast and not too rushed. This is one of my favorite places to get pho in San Diego because their food is yummy and their portions are good for their price. They rarely have a line and their parking is plentiful. When you eat in, they seat you quickly, but they are not very attentive after they finish taking your order and serving you food. It is rather dark in the restaurant and there is only relatively normal lighting in the center of the restaurant. Decided to come here as it was highly recommended by a coworker. Gotta say, not my favorite pho place. Don't get me wrong, it's really good for the most part, but it's missing the final touch. Even after adding a lot of flavoring, it still tasted off. The noodles weren't my favorite either, although I can't quite put my finger on it as to what was off about it. If I could take the egg rolls and just the meat to another pho place with different broth, I think I would have the perfect pho bowl. This review is solely for the lack of knowledge the staff has in the industry. My family and I tried to walk into the establishment with our service animal. The staff would not allow our service animal entry based on the fact that we did not provide documentation (which is privileged and illegal to ask for) and also requested an ID card with our dogs picture which doesn't exist for real service animals. We tried to explain the law under the ADA and that my wife had a disability for which she relied on the aid of her trained dog (a 15 lb extremely mild mannered dog). As the staff did not have enough knowledge of the laws, we asked for a manager, which the staff said there was none available at the time. We attempted to tell the staff that we came on an airplane and we can show the staff his paperwork from the airline which states he is a service animal, which the staff did not understand or would not accept other than the "service dog paper and ID with our dogs face". So we left the restaurant embarrassed and humiliated. Later in the day, we called the restaurant to attempt to speak to a supervisor or manager, which the staff responded there wasn't any. When asked when will this person be available, we were told "we don't know". At this point we just thought it was important to educate them, to avoid this happening to others in the future. My wife was extremely upset and actually wants to file a complaint against the restaurant. At the end of the day, the customer service, lack of management and even basic knowledge of laws in establishments make it seem like this is definitely not a professionally well-run restaurant, with employees that are not knowledgeable in laws nor any managerial staff present for the day (unless they are blatantly lying). We plan to file an official ADA complaint shortly, we hope the staff can be more educated about disabilities and show respect and equality to all patrons of their restaurant. With such blatant disregard of the law, and with no issue humiliating people in their restaurant, I would caution the integrity a place like this puts in their food. read more

Date of initial visit: April 22, 2022 With the cold weather we had this past Friday, I found myself craving pho.. and seeing how I hadn't properly given Pho Kitchen a review (I'd been getting takeout from them for my mom), thought I'd stop by. My order was for a large Pho Dac Biet Combination Special (P2 - $11.50) and a full order of Spring Rolls with peanut sauce (A2 - $7). Yes, this is a bit pricy for a large bowl of pho and spring rolls... but with the quality of the meats and broth, I can see why. My mom raved about the quality of the broth Pho Kitchen uses; I'm inclined to agree, given how clear and fresh it tasted. The brisket, top eye, tripe, tendon, and flank cooked quickly in the broth (though with the thin slices, there wasn't much flavor as a result - nothing a few doses of sriracha couldn't fix). And the sprouts, mint, and jalapeno were quite freshly prepared. I should also mention that the large bowl here is VERY large; I had enough for leftovers the next day! The spring rolls offered by the restaurant are among the best I've had; the wrapper wasn't too sticky, the shrimp and pork were just right, and the noodles, lettuce, and mint seemed like they were freshly made. The peanut sauce was plentiful, and since I didn't want the rest to go to waste after I was done with my appetizer, I added it into my pho for a little extra flavor (don't judge!). The ambiance is quite pleasant, with eye-catching decor and comfy seating. Service is attentive and quick, although they did bring me my bill a little too quickly - but that's to be expected at just about every pho place I've been to (though to be fair, at least they didn't rush me out the door). Also, the menu isn't quite as robust as, oh say, Pho Ca Dao or Phoung Trang; I was a little disappointed that there's no chicken wings here... Still, with some of the best pho I've had (and I'm intrigued over trying the beef stew pho as well as the broken rice dishes), I'll be definitely making more stops at Pho Kitchen! read more

Phenomenal bowl of pho. The broth is consistently good, the meats are fresh and well-cut bringing excellent mixes of texture and flavor to your bowl. They do not always ask, but if possible, request the flat rice noodles for a small upcharge. (freshly made in-house) If you want leftovers, go with the large size, I am usually able to feed my kid and self, with a bit leftover for a second sitting. At this restaurant, large means large and they are not stingy with meats, noodles, or toppings. Fairly hole-in-the-wall experience with one of the best pho bowls in the county. Good boba drinks, too, but it starts adding up if you grab other stuff off the menu. I go there strictly for the pho, and always leave satisfied and smiling. As a disclaimer, SD area is rlly not known for Vietnamese cuisine. Even 1 hour up north (OC) will have one of the best Vietnamese food capitols of the US. Having come from a Vietnamese background and eaten at all the Vietnamese food capitols of US, I was trying very hard to not compare it to those locations, but rather, take in account the local area of SD. service was rlly good and fast. Plenty of seating on a Friday night. Good job! I got the pho and the spring rolls. It got the fix taken care of. Was it the most flavorful broth? No. Was the meat pretty tender and good? Yes. I've eaten a lot of pho in my life, and so its not exactly fair. I'd give it a 6/10. The spring rolls were fresh, but lacking any substance from the shrimp or the meat. Also 6/10z The sauce was very hoisin based, but i prefer peanut taste dominant sauces. Overall, i still think this is one of the more authentic and better places in the SD area. So I came up to a conclusion as I was eating the pho is huge and good portions !! Lots of noodles in bowl and it tasted so Dang delicious !! A really nice cozy spot to get some pho. There are definitely plenty of pho options in Mira Mesa but there's a reason I always go to Pho Kitchen. First off, the restaurant is always nice and clean. Parking is ample in the plaza. The staff are always welcoming. Service was quick and the staff were extremely attentive to the wife and I. Ordered the P2, combination pho with filet. Asked for the filet on the side, so they brought it out on its own plate for me to dip into my soup at my own pace. The soup was extremely flavorful, and the portion of the large was very filling. This place is really good. The food is great and I usually get delivery. I have to give it three stars though, because although the food is great, things are not consistent in what I receive with my pho. Sometimes I get everything and sometimes I get barely anything in terms of the toppings. This last time they gave no sprouts, no lime and no paste and chili sauce. They only gave one tiny bag of cilantro and sliced onions. Having the sprouts and all that other stuff is what makes the dish taste great. Without it, I don't want to eat it. When you eat inside you get all that brought to the table with the pho. But when ordering to deliver, it's hit and miss . Also no chopsticks. This isn't a dish you eat with a fork or spoon. I love my Vietnamese food so when I noticed this place was just down the street from me, I had to try it. The menu here is quite different than a typical authentic Viet restaurant... at least for the vermicelli and broken rice options. You pick your protein and the style you want it in.. very different. I can see they're playing with the "build your own bowl" style. Because of this, it was a little pricier than I had expected. I usually get my normal order of thit nuong (bbq pork) with egg rolls vermicelli, but the egg rolls are an extra cost and is considered another "protein" so that costs extra as well. This costed about $12/13. A little more than I'm used to. For the taste, everything was pretty decent. Nothing too special. The egg rolls in particular were pretty THICK... as in the wrapper. It was a little hard to chew through, but my boyfriend enjoyed the crunch it had and didn't get soggy. That is a plus, however I like my egg rolls a little more airy with more substance, not all wrapper. That was a no for me. The thit nuong was ok as well, not a lot of flavor in my opinion. What a sweet restaurant! I am not feeling great and wanted some vegetarian soup. I haven't been to pho kitchen before but found them on DoorDash. They have a selection of purely vegetarian things including spring rolls, pho that folks on here have said is real vegetarian with vegetarian broth, and noodles. I ordered the vegetarian pho and the spring rolls, and both were very tasty. The spring rolls were very large, two for $7.50. And the Pho Was packed so beautifully! Instead of sending me a container of soup in which everything would have continued to cook. I got one container of broth, one bag of cilantro and onions, one bag with bean sprouts lime peppers and basil, and one container that had the noodles and some sliced squash and brussels sprouts. There is also a little container of what seems like plum sauce that you can add to the vegetarian broth for more flavoring. Overall it is large and I like it a lot.
