    Bun bo hue

I was searching for a new pho restaurant to try in Mira Mesa and saw this one had high ratings. It's a quick service pho place, similar to others. My fiance and I got the spring rolls, bun bo hue, and pho dac biet . I was super disappointed with the taste of the broth from both bowls. They both tasted watered down. I would give it three stars but unfortunately we found a gray hair in the spring rolls. How unfortunate.

Definitely give it a try!! The family running this place were so nice and helpful. They asked if I wanted help picking the right bowl for me and helped me choose an absolutely delicious pho. The service was super speedy and everyone was so polite :)

This is a solid pho spot with very efficient service. I have always gotten seated immediately and they take my order as soon as I sit down. Minutes later my piping hot food is ready for me to chow down. There's plenty of seating. I usually get the Tai Gao pho or a broken rice combo.

We've noticed this Vietnamese restaurant for some time now and decided to try it for lunch. I'm glad we did. We were greeted warmly and seated immediately. After studying the menu, we chose two favorite Vietnamese dishes for lunch: Pho Filet House Special (3/5 $13.95 reg.) and Bun Bo Hue (4/5 $13.00 reg.) Both dishes had an abundant amount of meat, but the filet mignon in the Pho was not very tender. Both dishes could have been more assertive with thir flavors. Service was good but not attentive. The restaurant is small with about a dozen tables. Overall, we enjoyed lunch. We'll be back.

Classic pho at affordable prices! I liked being able to customize what meats I wanted.

This is usually my go to pho place in Mira Mesa! Whilst there are other Pho places nearby, I particularly like coming to this one because: 1. Affordable prices. I usually order the P1 with fresh noodles (a little extra cost for the fresh noodles upgrade, but tastes so much better). I'm simple and enjoy rare beef with a nice warm bowl of broth. Their broth tastes clear/ flavorful and not overwhelmingly saturated with msg or other flavors. Their Vermicelli rice noodle dishes are delicious too! I usually get the RS which includes pork, chicken, egg roll, meat loaf and veggies. 2. No wait and ample parking. This restaurant is located in a shared plaza with Aldi and other stores. I never encounter any problems with parking. And I'm always seated right away! 3. Friendly staff. It seems like this is a family owned business. They're quick and attentive.

A great pho spot to eat quickly for a quick fix! The pho filet mignon had some of the best broth I've had out in SD! I do agree with other post the meat could be more tender and a little bit more meat in general but overall a great bowl and spot. Definitely coming back for other items!

We're blessed to have the majority of our immediate family live in California. Despite living in the same city, we wish we could spend more time with our family, but that's difficult when we all have our own families. We had planned to eat dinner with my wife's sister and thought it would be just the three of us, but after my sister-in-law (SIL) said that her husband, our brother-in-law (BIL) would join us if we dined at a Vietnamese restaurant, we happily chose Vietnamese cuisine. Throw in the added bonus of their son, our nephew, joining us, we couldn't wait to break bread with them. My in-laws recommended Pho Kitchen because they had eaten there for their wedding anniversary. This was me and wife's first time dining here and after our satisfying dinner, I'm confident it won't be our last visit. Pho Kitchen is located in Mira Mesa specifically Mira Mesa Blvd. If you're exiting off of the 15, it's towards the west end of Mira Mesa Blvd. and if you're exiting off of the 805, it's toward the east end. The restaurant is located in the outdoor shopping center where Aldi grocery store is the anchor store. It's across from LA Fitness, next to Chevron, a short walk from Urbane Cafe, a few steps away from Navy Federal, and it is neighbors to Habaneros and Spices Thai Cafe. This shopping center has plenty of parking. As you enter Pho Kitchen, you'll immediately notice their neon-lit logo of a bowl with noodles twisted around chopsticks. It's a clean restaurant and I really enjoyed the distressed wood paneling on one of their walls with pics of life in Vietnam. The restaurant didn't look too big from the outside, but it's surprisingly spacious inside. The lighting is dim with hanging light fixtures. One thing I noticed were the decorative accents of relics like a typewriter and coin-drop rotary phone. There is table/chair sitting and leather booth bench sitting. The employees here worked hard, provided attentive customer service, and the food came out pretty fast. My wife and I are Vietnamese connoisseurs having eaten at chain restaurant Pho Ca Dao and grubbed at one of Yelp's Top San Diego restaurants Pho Cow Cali. My SIL and BIL recommended Pho Kitchen because my BIL's Vietnamese coworkers had taken him here and my in-laws had celebrated their wedding anniversary here last December. When Vietnamese recommend a Pho restaurant, then I'm expecting it to standout and after eating Pho Kitchen's food, I thought everything I ate was delicious and it was one of the better Vietnamese restaurants. Their menu consists of Pho noodle soup, egg noodles, a small selection of appetizers, rice dishes, vermicelli rice noodles, vegetarian meals, and drinks/dessert. I wished they had more appetizer options, but we ordered their egg rolls and spring rolls appetizers. The egg rolls were fried perfectly and they came out hot, so let it cool for a little while. They bring out fresh lettuce for you to wrap the egg rolls in them and it's quite tasty. The spring rolls were fresh and make sure to dip them generously into their peanut sauce. Usually at Vietnamese restaurants, I order Pho noodle soup, but this time I ordered a rice dish and I asked my wife to order Pho, so that I could share. I ordered their Com/Bun Special (RS) 5 Item Special and my wife ordered their Pho Filet House Special (P1). These two meals are why you should dine at Pho Kitchen. My Com/Bun was a generous plate with BBQ shrimp, pork, chicken, two egg rolls, meat loaf, fresh veggies, soup, and white rice. The proteins had a grilled taste, it was tasty, and everything ate well with the rice. If you're into spicy, douse your proteins with their squeeze bottle red hot sauce. My wife's large bowl of Pho had plenty of thin rare filet mignon, noodles, and I thought the taste of their broth was yummy. My wife and I have gone out with my wife's sister on multiple occasions, but it's rare for our BIL to join us, but I think we cracked the code to get him to join us more by dining at Vietnamese restaurants. Pho Kitchen was recommended by our in-laws and it was a great rec because all of their Vietnamese food was on point.

House special filet mignon pho. Beef was pretty tough though.

I'm not a huge fan of pho, but for some reason I ended up devouring the broth here. The menu is sort of hard to read, so I decided to just get their house special filet mignon pho. It came out with a good assortment of bean sprouts, jalapenos, and basil. I'm happy to say that this is the first pho place where I didn't contamination the broth by adding hoisin and sriracha directly to it. It had a pretty strong clove flavor to it, but was clean tasting. I just didn't like that my beef slices were tough. The bean and rice with coconut milk dessert at the end was also very good. Not too sweet, chewy, and warm. A pleasant find in Mira Mesa.

LOVE ME A GOOD BOWL OF PHO (4.5 stars) - FOOD: always good - PRICE: fair - SERVICE: great - AMBIANCE: vented but don't like the dim lighting in the evening Pho Kitchen is one of my go-to's for a good bowl of pho. This is their second location and overall like the less crowded, quieter, and less aroma location. I spent 1.25hrs here for dinner and walked out being able to air out my clothes and not smell like armpit (onions). PHO FLIET MIGNON - this seems to be the go-to order. Especially when outside is just ugly. Good broth, lots of noodles, and the meat was plentiful and very tender. SPRING ROLLS - good ratio of ingredients. Not bloated with noodles and their Thai peanut sauce was average but a good average. RICE PLATES - generous serving! Wish I had a better picture to portray how to describe this plate. Of course I'll be back. Future visits to this location will come more often. Until the next review.

I wanted a bowl of phở of a cold, gloomy day, so I made a pit stop at Phở Kitchen on the way home from work. I am Vietnamese and originally from Orange County, so I've had access to phenomenal phở all my life. Since moving to San Diego, I've been consistently disappointed by all the phở establishments I've tried so far. Unfortunately, Phở Kitchen in Mira Mesa was no different. The restaurant itself was nicely decorated and clean. It wasn't too busy when I came in on a Monday evening. There was plenty of parking, so no worries about that. FOOD: Phở Filet House Special (2/5) - The slices of filet mignon were tender, and I enjoyed dipping them in hoisin and sriracha, which are provided in squeeze bottles at every table. I chose the thin noodles, and they were a pleasant texture, not overcooked and mushy. My biggest problem with this phở was the broth being SO SALTY. Everyone that knows me will say that I tend to prefer things saltier than the average person, but even this was unbearable to me. There was no real flavor or depth to the broth either, just saltiness. The half of a lime I squeezed in was not enough to save it. An order of phở is accompanied by a plate of herbs. There were bean sprouts, Thai basil, a lime, and jalapeños. They were fairly fresh, but I thought the serving was kinda stingy compared to other phở restaurants I've been to. It was also missing the culantro (sawtooth coriander) if that matters to you. SERVICE: (3/5) I was seated almost immediately upon entering. The staff weren't super attentive, but they got the job done. It might just take a little effort to get them to notice you, but no biggie. Food came out super fast, and I paid at the register when I was done eating. TLDR// I received a super salty bowl of phở that left my tongue and mouth feeling all weird and tingly. Maybe I just caught them on a really bad day... ? Service wasn't the best you'll ever experience, but they get the job done. Will likely not come back for the sake of my blood sodium levels.

I was craving pho and I found this restaurant on a Sunday afternoon. Many of the reviews raved about the Pho Filet so I had to try it out. Who doesn't love filet mignon? The broth was tasty and the meat was good. The bowl was a bit smaller as you can see on the length of the standard napkin in the picture. Service was decent, but who goes to a pho place for service? The restaurant is a bit smaller, but I went at a time when it was not as busy. I would come back and try the other menu items when I am back in the area!

I like going to Pho Kitchen for a quick business lunch, they never disappoint. 3.5 (or "3 solid") stars, even though I do not believe they have/provide anything special or out of the ordinary in terms of broth flavor. They offer an effective, simple menu. A huge plus for the vegetarian Pho with beef broth. It features quite a lot of fresh veggies. Staff don't communicate much but service is very fast. Simple and efficient, recommended.

Once inside, we stood there for about 15 minutes, and not one employee acknowledged us or asked if we were waiting to be seated. There appeared to be no hostess managing the front or any clear process for letting someone know that your number had been called. Eventually, I told my husband to flag down a waiter just to find out what was going on and how we were supposed to alert someone that we were there. When he finally spoke with an employee, we were told that our number had been called and that after five minutes they considered us a "no-show." That explanation made absolutely no sense because we had been standing inside the restaurant for at least 15 minutes, and during that entire time, we never heard anyone call a number or a name for ANYONE. To claim we were a no-show when we were physically standing there waiting to be acknowledged was extremely frustrating. Unfortunately, things didn't improve much from there. I'm from Dallas, Texas, where we have plenty of great Vietnamese restaurants, so I know what good pho and Vietnamese food should taste like. Unfortunately, this experience fell short. I ordered the chicken pho, and my husband ordered the bbq pork vermicelli. For appetizers, we ordered the egg rolls and the pork paste spring rolls. I did enjoy the pork paste spring rolls, but the egg rolls were very greasy and tasted like they had been re-fried. My chicken pho was also disappointing. The noodles were cut in half and were so mushy that they practically disintegrated in the broth. The service was also lacking, and the staff did not come across as particularly friendly or welcoming. While the pork paste spring rolls was a bright spot, the overall quality of the food and service left a lot to be desired. Don't believe the hype.

Today, it's one of the most well-known Vietnamese restaurants in the city, and after this visit, I can definitely see why. One of my favorite things about coming here is the location. Even though it's right in Convoy, parking has never been an issue for me. I usually avoid the area because finding a spot can be a headache, but Phuong Trang has a large parking lot that makes stopping by so much easier. I came in for a quick takeout lunch. One thing to know before you go is they don't accept Apple Pay, so make sure to bring a physical card or cash. The staff was incredibly welcoming. They greeted me when I walked in, gave me plenty of time to look over the menu, and never made me feel rushed. That kind of hospitality really stood out. I ordered the Char-Grilled Beef Vermicelli and the Shrimp, Pork & Jellyfish Salad. The salad comes with shredded green papaya, celery, cucumber, carrots, shrimp, pork, jellyfish strips, fresh mint, crushed peanuts, and shrimp chips. The salad was refreshing with plenty of shrimp and jellyfish throughout. I especially liked the crunch from the green papaya. My only complaint was that the dressing felt a little one dimensional. I wish it had a little more brightness to bring out the fresh herbs and vegetables. It was still enjoyable, though. The Char-Grilled Beef Vermicelli was my favorite of the two. It came with vermicelli noodles, fresh herbs, pickled daikon and carrots, crushed peanuts, plus five grilled beef rolls wrapped around scallions. The beef had a delicious smoky flavor from the grill. The only downside was that the inside of the rolls was a little chewy since it didn't get the same char as the outside. Even so, every bite was packed with flavor, so it wasn't enough to take away from the dish. Between the friendly service, quick turnaround for takeout, and solid food, I can see why Phuong Trang has stayed so popular for all these years. I'd happily come back and keep working my way through their menu.

Service: Great, the servers check in a decent amount of the time and you can usually flag them down if you need anything Food: This is where my review goes downhill. The only thing I would say is worth getting at this restaurant is the baguette with butter (no add-ons, caviar or whatever they have going on at the time -- its just not worth it -- when I got the black truffle on my butter the shavings were so thin they might as well have not been there since it made no difference in flavor) The tamarind wings are one dimensional -- the wings are fried well, but lack in flavor, its straight *overwhelming* tamarind with no other notes. House made egg noodles lack any sort of noticeable flavor, most of it stemming from the Lap Cheong but most definitely not worth the price tag that it holds ($36) The dry aged duck is where I feel the most "scammed out of". Ive gotten this both times i've been here. Both times its been overly salty. I understand its dry-aged, but the saltiness overtakes any other flavor of the duck. The sauces try to make up for the lack of flavor but they just cant carry the entire dish on their own -- especially not for a $100 price tag.
