This review is strictly for the beef pho. Service and ambiance are standard Asian vibes, still that just comes with the territory. At first taste, the broth was fatty (supposed to be clear broth), lacked depth, and didn't have enough sweet to balance the salty. When I finally dug into the contents of the bowl, suddenly the broth was almost flavorless. This tells me either they're recipe just sucks or they're watering down the broth. I BARELY dressed the broth with a little bit of sriracha, so there's no way it would have stood up to my usual routine. Speaking of dressing, wtf is a lemon doing on the plate of accoutrements??? Hubby and I stopped by for lunch after church. We started by sharing the PK Lettuce Wraps. The Romaine lettuce leaves were crisp, but it's not the ideal leaf for wraps. I tried to fold it like a taco, but the filling kept falling out. Hubby chose the Xao Dac Biet (House Special) stir fry chicken, beef, and shrimp over crispy rice noodles. We've been regulars of this location for years and often recommended it to others. Unfortunately, it's unlikely we will come back here again. We normally ordered the large (the bowls come in M, L and XL) and it was extraordinarily small compared to what it was like in the past. The noodles in there were literally the size of one closed fist and there was maybe six thin slices of brisket if you do all brisket. If you get meatballs plus one other item, there's literally one beef meatball sliced into three pieces to look more abundant. Previously, you used to get so much food that you had to eat fast because the noodles would absorb all the broth. There was no room for the extra bean sprouts in the bowl. Now there's plenty of liquid (and space). I feel like anyone that says there's enough for leftovers must be ordering appetizers in addition to an entree. There's an Aliso Viejo location as well but I wouldn't bother going to that one. They had smaller portions to start and the service there is poor too. read more
