Vegetable chow mein
Emilia G.

It was warm and inviting with pretty plants at entrance. This place was incredible. I tried to find an autentic pho restaurant where it tasted like home and the reviews are definitely true. You can eat and drink the soup without adding anything. The flavor is what I imagined someone's grandma to do. The star anis flavor wasn't overpowering. The honey walnut shrimps were battered to perfection. Condensed milk and honey or mayo and honey is truly godsend. I can't tell which way it was made but it was delicious. The vegetable chow mein added the best starch to our dinner. Haha. We Chowed down. Okay?! lol I'll be driving an hr to come back because everything was so good. The service was amazing too. Got in and took our order and received everything within about 15/20 mins. Epic find and additional to Wheatland food community.

Simple but great food. My favorite is crispy fried whole fish and salt pepper shrimp.

salt and pepper chicken wings

Salt and Pepper Chicken wings - made fresh to order, hand dipped not frozen. They came our super hot, crispy, and juicy with the right amount of salt and pepper. I could eat 20 of them. I also got the hot and sour soup, which is the best in Yuba and Sutter County. Finally, someone makes it hot, spicy, and sour - for some reason, many places are making it sweet, and that is so gross. The soups are also made fresh daily. The owner is super nice and helpful. My husband had the pho, which was fine (not always my favorite). I thought my hot and sour was way better. The place was clean, a lit of seating and plenty of parking. I can't wait for my next drive thru as I want to try their Chinese menu like orange chicken and chow fun.

Cashew chicken

First time here and I tried the cashew chicken which was really tasty! Chicken was super tender, lots of crunchy veggies and they were very generous with the delicious sauce. The service was friendly and food was ready for takeout very quickly. I will return and highly recommend!

My server tried blaming her colleague at the start for being busy, and then completely ghosted me until i was ready for the bill. i was expecting lean chicken for the teriyaki, but instead i got something on par with panda express. It was fine, but they could make the menu more descriptive.

I…read moregenerally enjoy the food here, but I came in two nights ago and used my comp points to order the Lightly Crispy Walnut Shrimp. What I got were six shrimp for $24 that were not de-veined. Keep in mind that these aren't actually veins, but two inch long, thick and, tough digestive tracts that don't break without a noticeable effort. I expect shrimp to be relatively easy to eat, but in this case, I found the "veins" either wrapped around my tongue or firmly stuck between my teeth. These ongoing battles thoroughly ruined my meal. Having to fight them on one front, while wondering what the shrimp's last meal might've been on another front is more than I should have to contemplate while eating. The "research" I did before posting was simply to find out if it's generally good practice to "de-vein" shrimp before cooking them, and the overwhelming consensus is that, yes, de-vein them so as not to disgust your diners. Order at your own risk - there's almost nothing worse than a disappointing meal.

So there I was... sitting on an oil rig in Alaska, talking to a sheriff's deputy with over 20 years…read moreon the job. He says, "My buddies keep telling me about this place called Pho King Good." Funny part? Even he had never been there. Well, that little story stuck with me. Fast forward a few weeks. My road trip partner, Koda, and I are heading home from Disneyland, cutting through Sacramento toward Grass Valley. We roll into Auburn and BOOM there it is. Pho King Good. Now let's just take a second to appreciate that name. If you're gonna swing for the fences with a name like Pho King Good, you've set the bar about as high as Mount Everest. You don't get to be "pretty decent." You'd better make me question every bowl of pho I've ever eaten. The sign? Absolutely iconic. It practically jumps out and hollers at you from the side of the road. Easy in, easy out. Road-tripper approved. Walking inside, though, I was expecting a little more "Pho King Palace" and a little less "we've been meaning to remodel since the Clinton administration." The marble counter looked nice enough, but the place just felt like it needed a little love. If I owned a restaurant with a name that good, I'd lean into it. Give me lanterns. Give me atmosphere. Make me feel like the King just walked in. Charge me another couple bucks if you have to I wouldn't mind if the experience matched the name. Then came the menu. It felt a little like Dysfunction Junction. They had everything listed, but it wasn't organized in a way that made ordering easy. Give me sections. House Pho. Beef Pho. Chicken Pho. Special Pho. Help a hungry traveler out. The food? Solid... right down the middle of the road. After hours in the car, a hot bowl of pho hits the spot no matter what. Koda really enjoyed his chicken dish, and our vegetable egg rolls with the peanut sauce were decent, although the wrapper was just a touch on the rubbery side. The owner was friendly, welcoming, and genuinely hospitable, which always counts for something. My only real disappointment was this: with a name like Pho King Good, I expected to leave saying, "That's the best pho I've ever had." Instead, I left saying, "That was... good." And then came the plot twist. Time to pay. Cash only. So now I'm walking out to the ATM like I'm making a withdrawal for a back-alley poker game or a dispensary run. I'm standing there thinking, "Well... this tip just took a hit because I wasn't planning on paying an ATM fee for my noodles." I still don't quite understand it. You're giving change, printing receipts, running a business... we're already 95% of the way to taking cards! Overall, this wasn't about whether the food was amazing or terrible. It was about the experience. Sometimes that's the story worth telling. Would I stop again on another road trip? Probably. Because sometimes a bowl of pho, your best buddy Koda riding shotgun, and a restaurant with the greatest pun in California are all you really need. And if they ever decide to polish the place up and make it live up to that legendary name... It might just become Pho King Great.

VEGAN SIGHTING!!! I…read moredon't even know where to start my fellow vegans. This quirky, Vietnamese restaurant in the city of Auburn, CA, has by far the best vegan Banh Mi sandwich. The tofu was prepared so it did not take up the whole sandwich. The pickled radish and carrots had the perfect and balanced of sour and sweet. Of course, can't leave out the herbs of cilantro and fresh jalapinjoes. The french bread was crispy outside but still soft and hearty as you take a bite. My earth was it a 2 thumbs up!!! Then their vegan pho with veggies and tofu did not disappoint. Their veggie broth was perfectly blended and made wonderfully that I was not even thinking this was vegan. The staff was kind and informative. They were attentive and friendly. Then comes the merch. If you like a play on the word Pho, then come and check out their shirts for sale. All I have to say is "Life is Pho king good." With this said, another gem in Auburn, CA.

Quick service, you order at the counter and they bring out your food to the table in minutes. There are bright red chairs with metal tables so very casual vibe. The person taking our order wasnt exactly the friendliest which was a bummer. We both got the Pho Hanoi (#14, comes with wok fried ribeye and garlic) with the fresh noodles upgrade which was a $1.50 surcharge but so worth it. Came out to about $44 total. The broth was good, didnt taste diluted, and different than the pork broths I've been used to from other pho restaurants. The meat was fully cooked, flavorful, and both of ours had a decent amount of meat. The fresh noodles were great and light, it didnt feel like I was forcing myself to eat noodles I didnt like. Standard garnishes (jalapeños, limes, sprouts) though they start you off with a small amount of make sure to ask for more if you run low. They also have pickled white onions as a garnish!!!! SO GOOD!! As you can see from the pic, I finished mine which is rare for me. I usually leave a lot of broth or a lot of noodles left over, not this time! Note, this place only serves pho as entrees so plan accordingly if anyone in your group is expecting banh mis or doesn't want something hot, soupy, and delicious. Their phos are beef broth based. I've been to a few pho joints in the Davis/Sacramento area and I would easily put this is in my top 3.

I also enjoy their flank and brisket pho, but I do find that the flank and connective tissue could be undercooked sometimes, and chewy. The beef ribs are also a bit chewy each time I have been there. I still order the flank because it still one of my preferred cuts of meat in pho. Service is courteous and very straight forward. Order your food then take a seat. Staff are easy to get attention from, and they do roam around to ask if you need anything. Is usually ask for extra pickled (lightly) onions. It's nice that they I've got self serve hot tea and cold tea in addition to ice water. The restaurant is neat and taken care of. I've never had issues with tables being sticky like some other pho restaurants.
