The Original: Why Pho Hut is the Only Heart You Need in Glendale ------ A good bowl of pho will always make me happy, take me to that special place where everything is beautiful and nothing hurts." Anthony Bourdain was right, of course. It's a special kind of magic. But you don't find that special place in a sterile, centrally-kitchened, corporate-optimized noodle factory. You find it in places with grit. Places with heart. You find it behind an unassuming glass storefront on the boulevard, under a simple green sign. In Glendale, that place is, without question, Pho Hut. The First and the Few // They aren't newcomers riding a trend. Pho Hut is the O.G.--the original pho spot in Glendale, holding it down since 2007. They are specialized practitioners, not generalists trying to please everyone. When you speak to the owner, you immediately understand the philosophy that drives the place: "There is no bad food--only food made with or without heart." His mission is beautiful and simple: use this food to educate the community on what real Vietnamese cuisine is supposed to taste like. The Vibe and the Fuel // The interior is exactly what it needs to be: clean, simple, and functional. Wood-paneled wainscoting, hanging industrial-style lamps, and a few canvases of fishermen casting nets at sunset. It's a dining room built for eating, not for Instagram. Before the main event, you get your mind right with a deeply roasted, unforgivingly strong, and beautifully sweet Vietnamese iced coffee. It's a pulse-quickening caffeine hit that wakes up the palate and sets the stage for the heavy lifting to come. The Daily Labor of Love // While the big chains are busy maximizing efficiency with pre-made, industrialized broths shipped in plastic bags from a central facility, Pho Hut is engaged in a daily labor of love. They make everything from scratch. Every broth is created daily, simmering and developing over 20 hours. It is a painstaking, exhausting process, but you cannot fake that depth. It isn't optimized for profit; it's optimized for taste. The Specialist's Table // If you want the titans of texture and flavor, this is your table. I usually do build your own. I like both chicken and beef broth so it doesn't really matter which one. I order it with broccoli, tendon, and flank. The store is clean and the service is good and there is always a place to sit down, even on busy days.

If you we want yo have a bad experience go to this restaurant We visited a Vietnamese restaurant called Pho Hut in Glendale, California, hoping to find an authentic local Vietnamese spot, especially since my husband and I love Vietnamese soups. We ordered the largest soups for ourselves and a friend and everything was ordered politely and respectfully.When the soups arrived, we were given only two very small slices of lime and part of another small piece, which was clearly not enough for three large bowls of soup. So we calmly asked for some extra lime. Instead of a normal response, the waiter, a man who always wears fake luxury brand clothing, brought two large plates filled with cut limes, far more than what we asked for or needed. What shocked us was not the amount, but his behavior. He aggressively pushed the plates toward the table, almost slamming them down, in a very rude and hostile way.We were all stunned. We looked at each other, confused, wondering what just happened and why he reacted like that. It was extremely uncomfortable and honestly a behavior I have never experienced anywhere else in my life. Neither my husband nor our friends had ever seen anything like it. We had done nothing disrespectful, said nothing rude, and simply made a normal request.I later asked another staff member, a female waitress, if everything was okay with him. She replied, "Don't mind him," which made it clear that this behavior is known there. That made the situation even more upsetting. We live in the United States, and basic customer service and respect should not be optional. We did not go there expecting free food. We went as paying customers, treated the staff politely, and even left a full tip despite the way we were treated, simply because we believe in proper manners and respect.Unfortunately, this was not a one time experience. When we went there again, the same waiter behaved in a similarly rude and disrespectful way. I believe he is an employee, but I truly do not know who hired him, what qualifications they saw in him, or whether he is a family member or even the owner. I honestly hope he is not the owner, because the way he treated us was unacceptable.There are many Vietnamese restaurants out there, and we have had wonderful experiences at other places where we were treated with kindness and respect. Poor service like this only hurts the restaurant in the long run. I hope that if the manager or owner reads this, they take this seriously and make sure no other customers have to go through such an unpleasant experience. We will not be returning, but I genuinely hope others are spared from having the same experience. If I could, I would give this place a zero star sadly we don't have that option

Great pho spot on Brand in Glendale. The ambiance itself is a typical pho place, no frills. The crispy egg rolls were fresh and delicious. I had the seafood pho and my friend had brisket and steak pho. The regular portions were a good size. The broth wasn't as flavorful as I usually prefer, but with some Sricha sauce, it was nice and flavorful. Service was super quick and friendly.

We've been here a couple of times since my daughter loves pho. We usually get the Pho Hut special, egg rolls, and spring rolls plus milk tea. Ordered the Salad Rolls and Steak Bahn Mi on the cashiers suggestion for about $20. The spring rolls were big and packed full of tofu, but it was almost entirely shredded lettuce which was disappointing. Bahn Mi had a good flavor and had a lot of gristle. I ordered to go and it took a while for it to come out, but the restaurant was quiet and had the original Sonic Cartoon playing so it was a nice wait.

Didn't know they opened a second location! And in Glendale no less! We came here after the zoo. We were all feeling sick and pho always hits the spot. This new location is on a busy street where even on Sundays you have to pay. We got there around 11:30ish and it wasn't too busy but there were a few patrons there. It took a little bit to get our waters and order taken. My hubby got the special and I got the rare steak pho and extra noodles for my daughter. We have been ordering pho to go so I was pleasantly surprised when they brought out a small bowl of noodles and soup for her. All was delicious and this was as good as the other location!

i wanted to find a new pho spot for myself and after reading the positive reviews i am so glad I decided to come and give this place a try! the ambiance is chill and comforting. i was able to sit at any seat i wanted, the music was calming.. not so loud, & the service was efficient. the gentleman who took my order was very nice. i ordered myself the pho chicken with vegetables. they also give you garnishes you can add in your pho as well. the pho was absolutely delicious and fulfilling. the chicken broth had some flavor before i added my own sauces. the chicken was good and their vegetables were fresh veggies. i like that the broccoli weren't in giant sizes but cut up into bite sizes. as for my drink, i tried their Thai tea and it was really good and creamy! i really liked this place and I'll most definitely be coming back the next time im craving pho!

Please do not order the "pho hut's favorite spring roll" it's not good! Not worth it. I took a bite and it's filled with lettuce. 3 strangs of vermicelli noodles... I definitely didn't eat it. So sad it looked so good in their advertised pictures. Too bad it doesn't even look the same when you receive it. Won't order from here again that's for sure. read more

The food was not bad, but the service was very poor. One of the waiters was very rude. The waiters had no badges with names, so I don't know their names. However, he was wearing a cap. Twice, he literally threw things on the table - the first time it was chopsticks, and the second time he threw the straws. There was no reaction when we were saying thank you. When I mentioned this to another femail server, she first apologized and then went to that rude guy and said something. They were looking at us and laughing, obviously making fun of the situation. This is the second time I've experienced this kind of attitude, but for sure, this was the last time I went there. It is not surprising that they have such a low review score. read more

Omg where do I begin!!! I love this place so much! From their spring rolls to their very generous portions of pho. My favorite is the chicken breast pho. You have to try it. Also the sides they give with the pho add so much more to the dish. The spring rolls are the best I've ever had with their peanut sauce!! Best pho in Glendale! I eat here every 2 weeks and get the beef pho regular size (plenty). It's my go-to meal that I never get tired of. The family that owns this place is very nice and will tell you their favorite items if you ask them. My BF gets "bun" or vermicelli noodles and he says it's one of the best he's had and he works in Rosemead where he's tried a lot of authentic Vietnamese food. read more

This place is perfect for some dependable tasty pho. Their non-pho menu is a little dry and can't really stand up to other Vietnamese restaurants, so if you're a freak for Banh-mi like myself, I wouldn't recommend this place. But if you're looking for some warm pho with tasty broth, maybe pair it with some crispy egg rolls, this place will deliver that pleasant and filling experience. read more

Pho is okay, not the best but not the worst. They charge $0.50 for onions, unlike other pho places where its free. About $8 you can get a regular size pho which is abundant. Its not bad for a pho glendale. I got the #3 pho without tripe, and #3 appetizer which is the egg rolls. They were good. Except my pho had barely any meat. The egg rolls come with lettuce and the dip sauce. It tastes like those eggrolls where you buy at the stores. $5+ for 4 eggrolls. Not worth it. The service was okay. I walked in and the place wasn't crowded at all. I had to wait about 3 minutes for an employee to see me and seat me. read more

The place is so dark . Can't see your food in front of you. Egg rolls was not tasty. Pho soup tasted watery tasteless. The worse Ban mih we ever had. We order 2 ban mih to go. One beef and one pork. Used to love this spot. But our last experience with this restaurant pretty much solidifies that it's time for us to find some place new. Ordered online for pick-up. Arrived well after the time stated it'd be ready - was forced to wait because it wasn't even being prepped. Yet the place wasn't busy - the staff were just chilling on their phones. Came home to find out that the order is wrong - none of us ordered anything crazy, yet the items were so blatantly incorrect. When we tried to call to get a refund for the missing items, we were told it wasn't a mistake on their end. Great way to handle a small customer service issue. read more

I definitely come here all the time because I love pho and I can't resist. I can't give this place more than 3 stars though because it's definitely only average. The great thing is that this place is never full - I usually come around 11:30 when it's empty, but you'll easily get a seat even if you come at 12 or 12:30. As for the food, I've gotten the pho and the vermicelli. They give a pretty big portion so that's always good. Unfortunately, the broth isn't that great. There's not too much flavor in it, which kind of defeats the purpose (unless you're like me and dump tons of sriracha in it). read more

I ordered delivery of veggie pho from Pho Hut in Glendale last night. I was 10 minutes into eating my bowl and found this creepy wormy bug in there. It completely grossed me out and my stomach is still queasy when I think of how much I ate from that bowl. I see they have some good reviews, but no way this should happen if they are washing their ingredients at all! Places get shut down for less... just beware. read more

This is probably one of me and my boyfriend's favorite spot. If we're not in Van Nuys for Pho, we are here. And we get Pho A LOT. We love that it has A8 on the menu which is the pork spring rolls with the rolled fried wonton wrapper inside. The Pho-- sometimes it's good, other times it's so-so. Most of the time we love the broth because they make it rich; however, sometimes we get bland soup as well. Our favorites are the original pho and the port vermicelli or the pork chop plate. They also serve a real mean Bo Luc Lac. read more

CORONOVIRUS UPDATE: great handling of food, looked very safe and clean! Also the packaging for to go items were fantastic! I have yet to try their pho but I have had their Bhanmi sandwhich, vermicelli bowl with grilled beef and the pork and shrimp eggrolls. SERIOUSLY the Bhanmi is as good as if I had it in vietnam, the bread is a huge winner as many places dont get that right. The baguette was very crispy crunchy and soft and the grilled beef inside was great! I'll have to try their pho next time I order from here. read more

I like eating at Vietnamese restaurants, not for the Pho, but for their rice and noodle plates. I'm actually not much of a soup person, but when my girl was sick and craved pho, so we both went along with my brother to try out this place as it was nearby. We came here around lunch time, 12:30, parking around here is kind of a pinch, so you have to either find street parking, or pay the meter. When we arrived we were seated very quickly and kindly by the servers. I got the beef rice noodle plate, she got a beef brisket pho bowl and my brother got the beef stew bowl which came with a large crusty loaf of bread. It took around 10-13 min for the food to get to our table, and it was so GOOD!. I just love the assortment of vegetables and rice/noodle mixtures in all of the food that we ordered. I even tried some of the broth to my preference. I would usually never finish one of pho bowls myself, but when we finished all the food here, we took it to go so we could definitely enjoy it at home. Overall, nice vibe, as you'd expect from a Viet restaurant, great and healthy food. I'll probably come here next time to try their milk teas too. read more

I personally love this pho spot, & have been eating here since I was a teen. The staff is always so kind & welcoming. The pho ga is always delicious, it's my go-to with a thai iced tea and egg rolls!! Restaurant is super clean, and theres a parking lot right behind the building, with a back entrance into the restaurant - which is great considering street parking is a hassle. I'll always continue to come back when the pho cravings hit! read more

This spot used to be good but now the food is disgusting, not fresh, the oil they use to fry anything tastes like they have been using the same oil for months. Disgusting!! And the nerve that they have to expect a tip for a disgusting food even though it is a take out is what really the last straw for me. Being a HUGE fan of PHO, I've tried many different pho restaurants. I live right across the street from this one so I come here quite often. I would give this restaurant about 3~4 stars. Their food is great. I've tried several dishes here including different kinds of pho, fried rice, egg roll, summer roll, etc and I enjoyed all of them. The owner lady is nice, but servers could improve. Many times they are slow on orders/requests. read more

Why not 5 Stars to all the reviews for this place? Maybe one has to ask himself that exactly question! I am a business owner in Glendale for the past 15 years myself Been an immigrant from Brazil, I have have to the knowledge to speak in this line of business! One may ask: Why Kevin Aksacki reviews are most 5 Stars. Well, it comes from been behind the Line of Fire, Restaurant Owner, Small Business Family, I would like to ask you that next time you feel like putting a NEGATIVE review about ANY BUSINESS OUT THERE, take some time to think about if that is the best thing you can do. Just in case you are a Nice Person, ask yourself if the BAD review is not a reflection of how bad everything is around you as far as your personal life. After you do this, and you still think that is the best course of action, than go ahead. But before you do so, PLEASE try to send an email to the business owner and try to relay your feelings directly to the owner, in case they don't reply/care, then anyone will feel like you have a point. This place is my favorite of all Vietnamese places I have visited here in LA. I am know expert in Vietnam, however, been to so many of them, I can tell you that this place has become my favorite and I go as often as I can when comes to that type of food. Prices are amazingly cheep and the quality is always concistant. Service is great and attentive Conveniently located in the hearth of Glendale, one must not drive to Orange County to find this Authentic Food as I used to do until I discovered them. I literally threw up when i got home. i don't usually write reviews especially bad ones. but the way they handled the situation made me write it. first, i told the waitress and she looked at me like.. 'i can't do anything for you' and silent for about 30 seconds and went to get the manager. manager came out and i showed her the bug and immediately she said there are a lot of flies in the kitchen. okay.. it's obviously not a fly(no wings). even if it was a fly that's still not acceptable to be in my soup. after about a minute of debating over the fly or roach, she said i won't charge you for the soup if it makes you happy. well, didn't make me happy at all. read more

Definitely do not recommended. I opted for the lemongrass-infused meat vermicelli to go, and unfortunately, it fell far short of expectations. The sauce lacked depth and flavor, while the meat itself was both insipid and tough to chew. Contrary to the menu's depiction, the promised assortment of vegetables was sorely lacking; a mere trio of cucumber slices, an absence of lettuce, and a scattering of onions were all that greeted me. Astonishingly, the essence of lemongrass, which the dish supposedly revolves around, remained undetectable in every bite. My co-worker and I decided to try something different, so we decided on Vietnamese food. We walked in and up to the counter and felt very welcomed by the waiters. We explained that both of us have never tried vietnamese food. They took their time explaining the menu and helped us with our decisions. The food was alright but service was horrible. There was literally 2 tables when we came but some how they managed to get the food to the wrong tables but luckily we noticed it right away. The server was very rude and short. He literally throw the menu/drinks/checks on your tables without saying one word. The pho we ordered were decent, the broth was a bit salty for me, the grilled pork spring rolls were good and complimentary fish sauce they came with was nice and flavorful. I can't say Pho Hut is the best Pho in Glendale/Eagle Rock, but their food is not far off from the local favorites, including Glendale Pho Co. Plus, their NemNuong is the only one has the crunchy roll in it outside of Brodard in GG. We've been ordering from Pho Hut throughout the pandemic and the food was always consistent. I used to doordash, but a dasher picked up someone else's order and dropped it off to us. The owner/employee drove out to our home with our meal personally and apologized, even though it was the dasher's fault. read more

But a couple of days ago I come here with my parents expecting a nice night out and that wasn't really what we got. Service was horrible that day. The Pho is alright but the service is amazing here. One of my friends can't hold chopsticks, so the waiter was nice enough to make her kiddie chopsticks. It was so cute!
