3/21/2016 Great food for next to nothing. We went for a late Saturday dinner - one of Pho 99's assets is it's open late - a really enjoyed the experience. We were freezing from sitting outside for a football match, so we needed warming! We started with a delicious pork spring roll appetizer, which two fat rolls were enough for four people. We each then had pho - me the house special with steak, brisket, meatball, tripe and tendon; and B with brisket and rib eye. The broth was delicious, and the meats and toppings were fresh. Service was quiet but efficient. The meal cost less than $40, which I found extraordinary! There is also a wide variety of Vietnamese dishes other than pho. With 15 degree temps and 30 mph winds, today was the perfect day for hot, steamy pho and hot egg rolls. Our food was ready quickly, our server was friendly, and the pho delicious. The broth was rich and savory and had plenty of vegetables, spices, and chicken. The egg rolls were extremely hot, not greasy at all, and equally delicious. This was Jenni's first time eating pho and she really enjoyed it. The only thing that could have been better was to have bumped up the temp inside a little. We were kept waiting for 15 minutes without a single acknowledgment despite being passed by servers. My son and I were the only people waiting to be helped. I went to the bar to ask for help and received a frosty email friendly response to "Go get table 8." Like I was a hired member of the waitstaff. Smelly unclean restaurant. The bad attitude and unhygienic environment convinced me and my son to not risk our health, mental and otherwise eating here and we chose to leave. I wouldn't eat here is the food was free. It's "PHO" REAL! Before I go on, I am only specificly talking about what I ordered to eat and doesn't encompass the other menu meals. I ordered the H4. HU TIEU NAM VANG, which translates to SHRIMP AND SLICED PORK WITH RICE AND NOODLES for $15.50. Bowl of soup came out large. Soup liquid was sweet and tasty, contents of noodles out wayed the contents of pork and shrimp (basically a glob of noodles) I was actually a little disappointed with my meal. A bowl of that description should have been equivalent to the price. There was just 3 shrimps and maybe 3 very thin strips of pork and a big pork bone floating around in there like it fell in accidentally? I couldn't finish it. *Bathrooms: Were clean and there was one for men and one for women. *Parking: Ample but shared with other establishments in a small mall. *Waiters: pleasent and attentive. PHO 99 has a modern interior with plenty of tables, booths and natural lighting coming in, also a few large TVs on the walls (thankfully not blaring with shows while I was there). Some of the best pho I've had. Tucked in the Asia Mall is an unassuming little place with a large menu including several varieties of pho, bahn mi, udon noodles, stir fry. I ordered the pho with round steak and got an order that was incorrect. The staff corrected it right away which I appreciated. Pho 99 is my absolute favorite place in the city of Harrisburg to have pho! The broth is always nice and hot, the broth is the perfect consistency and super flavorful. The service is always attentive and friendly, however if it is a busier time just give them some grace and be patient. I promise their pho is worth the wait! The ambiance is lively, there's always traditional music playing, theres a fish tank full of colorful fish swimming about, and even some machines to try your luck while waiting to be seated. Went here with my hubby, son, and his girlfriend. It was her first time trying Pho. I wanted something from the market. We typically get Pho at the other restaurant in the small indoor mall, but this time we decided to walk to the end of the building and eat at this restaurant for the first time in many years. We were not disappointed. The Pho was tasty and I would say the broth is now my favorite in the area. It had a lot more depth than other versions I've eaten recently. Their blend of Pho broth spices was really well balanced. With just enough of a cinnamon kick to make it warm and perfect for a cold late fall night. I got a large P3 which had brisket and soft tendon (my two favorites). The bowl was very large, included enough herbs and jalapeno to get it just to my liking, and there was enough brisket and soft tendon. I ended up taking half of it home for later. My son and his girlfriend shared two dishes. A large P9 Pho with eye round steak and meatballs. They also shared a B1 banh mi sandwich and they said it was perfect. Crispy bread crust, flavorful blend of sandwich ingredients, etc. My hubby got the V4 grilled pork and egg roll vermicelli. He said it was excellent. Pho was about $18. The vermicelli was about $15. The Banh Mi was about $7. Water and hot tea were as expected. Service was very good. It took quite a long time for the food to come out, that was my only complaint. I want to take a moment here to share my thanks. Sometimes, the quality of a business cannot be measured just by what you expect. It sometimes shines in places that have nothing to do with the food, the service, or even the price. If you're not into that, I'll mention here that we loaded up on Pho from this place after the story and it was GREAT. The service was already above and beyond, so no notes there. This is consistent with everyone in Harrisburg who has mentioned Pho 99 to me and I recommend it. But here's the thing: On Labor Day this year, Lady Matilda's only daughter sent up a distress call because she jumped the curb in her car, tore open her front passenger tire, and ended up stranded in the parking lot outside this establishment. She had a hungry, cranky Doberman with her. Her "roadside assistance" plan wanted an extra $100 to come out and help her with the tire and would make her wait 2-3 hours for the privilege. It was a holiday, so the only option would be to tow the thing to a closed shop (again, holiday) and wait until the next day for a replacement. Now, the kid is capable, but the damage to the tire and rim made it impossible for her to manage alone, so she called on Matilda and me to come help. Heck, if the lug nut was stuck, having a fat man jump on the wrench would be better than her whole skinny self. By the time Matilda and I got free of the archives and across town to her location, TWO of the restaurant's employees had already volunteered to help her and were busy struggling with the last stuck lugnut. They persevered, got the tire changed, and even loaded stuff back into her car before returning to work. Of course, business was light inside at the time so they were sure not to inconvenience other customers, but - wow - they didn't want to accept payment for their labors and were just happy to help someone in need get back on the road. THAT is the quality of character that exists in a place that truly cares. The fact that Lady Matilda and her girl had some of the best pho ever as a consequence is a bonus. read more

It was a gloomy day and I wanted Pho, but wanted to try a new restaurant. I've heard about Pho 99 from a few people and decided to give them a try. The place was clean and I felt comfortable eating there. As I entered, I was told to sit anywhere. Once I sat down, the waiter brought the menu and gave me a few minutes to make my decision. Delicious LARGE bowl of brisket pho for $14. Amount of food for the price is hard to beat. The soup had a delicious stewed beef aroma. Brisket was tender and not chewy. Have to visit Harrisburg PA every a couple of months. One of my top 3 favorite cuisines is Vietnamese. Lo and behold there are more than a half dozen Vietnamese restaurants in Harrisburg plus a couple along route 22. Have been to Pho 99 about half dozen times, never disappointed. The place is clean and very unpretentious. It's located in The Asian Mall. There are a couple of Asian eateries, including a bakery and an Asian supermarket. Haven't tried any of the others but have visited the supermarket - very well stocked. Ok, have only few photos from last visit. This visit, had summer rolls and grilled pork - both delicious. The Banh Mi are very good, B1 & B2 are my favorites. Try any of the Pho. Go take your family on an adventure, you won't be disappointed and it will not break the bank. read more

Our family stopped in at Pho 99 after a trip back home from Hershey Park. It was a cold day, and we needed to warm up with some delicious pho. The service was friendly and quick. Although there were a couple of times we had to get up and ask for a fork or spoon, since we were seated towards the back of the restaurant and the staff were located by the bar and register, so they were not always checking on us. The reason I gave this place three stars was because the pho and the Bahn Mi were fine. However comparable to other Vietnamese restaurants that I have tried, the flavors were just average. The restaurant is located in a shopping center, with plenty of parking in the lot. The restaurant itself was very large and the restrooms were clean. Also there is plenty of seating for large parties. If we are ever in the area again, we may stop by since they have decent business hours. read more

Discovered a pho gem in Harrisburg -- my new go to! I've eaten pho in big cities and small towns, this place is as good as Chicago's pho selection, it's amazing. I've tried the soup with brisket, we had fried rice and chicken, the avocado smoothie and the green tea drink. Everything here is good and the people/service are excellent. I was in the area and was looking for good Asian food, especially noodles. So I decided to give this place a try. The outside of the restaurant looks a bit old and makes you ponder if it was really open. Not being familiar with the area, I wasn't quite sure where the entrance was so I just followed an Asian guy who I assumed knew where the entrance was. It's a huge place with lots of seating, decor was normal, a bit on the older looking side. Menu is extensive and has typical viet dishes - pho, rice, bah mi. I had the large pho at almost $14, regular is like $1 less. They gave a lot for the large pho, good portions for the price, food was average and does the job. Always keep your card receipt and check your bank or card transaction later. They overcharged me. I wrote down tip , but they ignored and put more tip on my bill. When I complained it, they asked the receipt and refused the refund. Instead they asked me to request discount next time. This is second time of overcharging me. read more

If you are craving for some Vietnamese food, then Pho 99 has plenty of options for you. However, if you are expecting authentic flavors, then you will be disappointed. Their main dishes are not bad to be honest. I have had vercimelli, broken rice, bun bo hue, and pho here. They do have the taste, it's just not 100% there. Like the pho noodle would be a bit off, or there would be too much oil in the broth, or the vercimelli would be too dry. I was never completely satisfied with their entrees but if you just need to scratch that spot of Vietnamese food craving then this place would do its job. Though, i do not recommend their spring rolls as it lacks lots of key ingredients. Their spring rolls overall are just bad and the peanut sauce is watery. For a Viet restaurant to mess up their spring rolls, it's pretty disappointing. read more

Another 5 star review, this place knocks it outta the park for me. We go quite frequently, and the staff are all super nice and helpful. Tonight we went and shared the V10, Bun Dach Biet, and it was simply outstanding, 10 outta 10! WE usually get the brisket pho, extra brisket and jalepeno, and the butter garlic wings are finger licking good. Our all time fav in the area....ya gotta try!!! Came here the other day to try the pho and was pleasantly surprised. The shop itself feels like a no frills hole in the wall kind of place, but the pho is great. I got the number 7 (dac biet) large without tripe and the total after tax and tip was ~$16 which was great value for how good their pho was. In terms of the pho itself I give it a 4.5 overall rating. The broth had a deep oily meaty flavor with just a hint of mintiness. The meat was very well curated and was given in generous quantity. My favorite cut was the brisket with a layer of fat on one edge. The only thing that was slightly off was the tendon. It felt a little more chewy and not as soft as the tendon I usually enjoy. I came across this place 11 years ago, on my way from California to settle down in New Jersey. It was late and I was tired and hungry. The warm pho here energized me. I am talking SLIGHT green tinge. Tasted the same. LOL. Oh well we didn't bother after that. The food was actually really tasty. Plenty of meat and noodles and the broth was rich. I was a little put off by hearing someone back in the kitchen hacking up their lung, or maybe even something worse...but as I looked at the staff out and about - no one stood out to me as being ill. Iced coffee seemed premixed, not the usual French press. I tried several times to get servers attention to bring a glass of water, it wasn't until I was nearly finished that someone acknowledged me and I got some water. Unacceptable since the restaurant was almost empty and had two servers, who were apparently too focused on their phones or some paperwork on the counter. I love my Pho and this place is great. I usually get the P8 (everything is by numbers) which is steak Pho. First it comes out really fast, like in minutes. The broth is hot and flavorful. The steak is very thinly sliced and oh so tender. My other go to dish here is the V4. It is a vermicelli bowl with thin sliced fried fork topped with vegatables and an small egg roll. It is fantasitc. It comes with fish sauce and they also have the normal sauces at the table to add as needed. It's been a while since we last visited Pho99. It was packed today! The place is nicely decorated with the Christmas theme. We got a few dishes (see pictures) and Viet coffee and Thai iced tea. All were very good! I give my pho a 4.5 star. 0.5 star off because the broth could have been clearer, the broth to noodle ratio could have been higher, and the noodles were a little soggy. Looking for a good Vietnamese restaurant is a roll of the dice sometimes. However, we see that there were some good reviews and said what the heck, lets try this place. They are located within a supermarket and shopping center. The place does not look updated at all, but you are here for the food I hope. Lots of parking available and its located at the corner of the shopping center. My family and I ordered a few dishes to try them all. We had the banh mi pork sandwich, grilled pork vermicelli, and the beef pho. The sandwich was good and bread had a good soft and crunchy texture which I liked. The vermicelli noodles was fin,e but I believe they were missing basil and mint herbs in the dish. However, the pho was probably the best item in the restaurant. The broth was very flavorful and one of the tastiest I have eaten. I've been to many Vietnamese restaurants to know a good one. I think the broth is what makes pho good or not so this one is good.
