Listen, I love pho lol so I was so happy to know that there's a Vietnamese restaurant near my house. They have a parking lot area but sometimes it can get filled up when it's busy like in the afternoons and evenings. When I went, it was mid day and I luckily found parking in front of the store. Everyone there was nice and it was a nice atmosphere as well. I could tell they had regular customers because of how they all comfortably chatted with each other and laughed. It was nice to see that and it shows what great customer service they have. Their pho was also tasty! I would recommend going here :) I also had delivery from here before and it's still tasty when you eat the pho at home! I think the only thing I could say was that it was a little oily but it was still tasty! read more

Oh so good! We ordered a ton of food: 2 orders of egg rolls, 2 small beef pho, 1 large beef pho, 3 small beef pho to-go, iced coffee, and green tea bubble tea. All together the price was around $60. Wow! That is a great price. The eggs rolls were good. Yum yum. I wish the pho had more meat. I'm not a huge meat eater but even for me it was lacking. A small pho is 6.99, the large is 7.99; pho really doesn't cost a lot of money to make. A few extra pieces of meat would make a lot of difference. The bubble tea was the most amazing bubble tea ever. Pho 36 is a smaller Vietnamese restaurant off Rockville Road (US 36) in a small strip center. The staff is very friendly, the orders arrive promptly and the food is very good. Seating consist of low 4-top tables and is handicapped accessible. You'll find friendly owners serving fresh ingredients. They offer very flavorful Pho, Rice & Egg Noodles options, Vermicelli dishes along with Fish and Seafood plates, several sandwiches with Vegetarian and Rice dishes or plates. I always enjoy the Taro Boba Tea when I'm at a Vietanese restaurant and this was no exception. We ordered the Spring Rolls with peanut sauce plus an order of Egg Rolls (3) filled with grilled pork, carrots, egg, long rice, and onion wrapped in rice paper and deep fried. Both were tasty but my husband prefers the deep fried egg rolls over the Spring Roll because of the "rubbery" rice paper, his words. I love both. I've had the shrimp and chicken pho. The Pho can be ordered in large ($7.99) or small ($6.99) serving. I've also had the Chicken Noodle Soup (Pho Ga) loaded with flavor and large chunks of white chicken. The large bowl is huge but for a $1 more I have enough for lunch the next day. Perfect soup for a cold day, feeling under the weather or just any day soup sounds good. My husband and son had the Vietamese Beef Stew which is Excellent. All the flavors are incorporated throughout and can be served with rice noodles, white rice or baguette. I visited today (drove 25 mins each way) for avocado bubble tea (which is on their menu) only to be told by the cashier that they don't have it, without any sort of explanation. I asked if they were out, she said no in an unsympathetic tone. I got frustrated at this point and asked why it was on the menu then and she just shrugged. If she was nicer or at least apologized I probably would've shrugged it off and ordered something else... but she was just so uncaring I decided to just leave. This place is kind of a hole in the wall in a strip mall however the food is amazing. I would say they could use an update on the tables and chairs. The staff are nice and very responsive. Stopped in to eat at Ph 36 on the way home from a doctor's appointment. I don't live on the west side, so I thought I'd try it while out that way. The interior was very basic and nothing fancy. We sat down and ordered some egg rolls (fried spring rolls), fried rice with chicken, pork, and shrimp, and I got the small chicken noodle soup ph. My husband ordered his fried rice medium spicy, and it came out covered in red pepper flakes and way too spicy to eat. He asked if he could send it back to tone it down some. The waitress was pretty upset that he thought it was too spicy. Medium spicy isn't red pepper flakes all over. Anyways, I started eating my ph. Nothing too impressive. I'm used to noodles with more flavor from the restaurant I usually get ph at. Also, the chicken was tough, so I didn't eat it. And instead of doing something to tone down the spiciness of the rice, they went ahead and made a whole new order, which took quite a long time. By the time my husband's food came out and the waitress pointed out they now made it with absolutely no spice, I had been done eating and was ready to go as the place was cold and the chairs weren't very comfortable. We packed up all our food to eat later and went home. Maybe I'm just spoiled by the ph goodness I'm used to, but I wasn't impressed with Ph 36 at all. Tried this place for first time last evening. Is the only Vietnamese restaurant in Avon, an extremely chain packed suburb of Indianapolis with a few sprinkles of local restaurants within. Will say that this joint was better than expected. I am not a lenient grader when it comes to southeast Asian cuisine, but also do not want to hurt local businesses by poor ratings unless they literally beg me to, so the 4 star is solid. It competes with most of the Vietnamese restaurants in indy metro but reasoning for lack of 5 star review is simply that it is not in the "elite" few that I would place king wok and pho vn. Rest of indy metro, this joint is as good or better. Kitchen seemed flexible, as they had okay'd making me Bahn coun (steamed rice flour crepe) which is not on their official menu. I didn't take this offer as they got very busy quickly on a Friday evening. They add kimchi to anything which is a huge plus for the fermented lovers of the world. The wontons were house made and absolutely delicious. Server was fantastic. She was alone and working with 8 tables or so and still chased me out in the parking lot to give me my debit card forgotten at close out. The negatives were that the egg rolls very thin and lacked substance, grilled chicken on the bun *vermicelli dish* was fair..but the menu was surprisingly expansive and I will definitely be back to give another shot. I used to love this place! I am so disappointed that the quality has changed so much. I had the pork Banh Mi, my husband had the beef Banh Mi. The buns are not the good Thai buns. They were very dry. The Daikon was non existent. It was in my sandwich, but absolutely no taste! It used to really pop! Will not be back. read more

While on the west side, my wife and I decided to give Pho 36 a try. I must say I agree with a number of reviews that mention that the service is friendly and pretty efficient (even though the owner/waiter was the only one covering the front including the cash register.) The food we ordered, and we ordered a lot, came out pretty quickly and I enjoyed everything I tried. I started with an order of Egg Rolls (3) that were nice and crisp and filled with ground pork, egg, long rice, carrots, and onions. There were a couple types of veggie strips along side and a dipping sauce. The sauce was on the thin side and didn't add a lot of flavor, but it was enough to add some depth to the taste. I also had the Vietnamese Chicken wings which had five pieces of crisp breaded chicken drumettes or flat/tips and covered with a sticky "fish" sauce which tastes like a combo of sweet and savory flavors. (I didn't find it pungent, salty, or hot. The flavors seemed like honey and sesame seed to me.) My wife liked these too! I also ordered the "Special" Bahn Mi - a baguette sandwich with sliced pork, pate, mayo, carrot, daikon, cucumber, sliced jalapeno, and cilantro. My wife thought it tasted hot, but I didn't notice the heat at all. The ingredients are served cold, but the flavors were refreshing and quite good. The bread was very fresh too. My wife was new to the cuisine, so she played it safe with the stir-fried chicken with mixed vegetables. The dish was plentiful and the rice with chicken and shrimp stayed moist, not overcooked. Plenty to eat for the money. I also sampled a bowl of Pho - Chicken Noodle soup. I noticed a small plate of sliced jalapeno, cilantro, and bean sprouts, but completely forgot to add them into my bowl. The bowl itself was huge and was loaded with noodles and large (almost more than bite-sized) pieces of chicken. The soup itself was on the bland side, like broth with just a hint of seasoning. Maybe if I had remembered to add my side veggies/herbs, the flavor would have had more depth to it. On the fun side, I ordered a strawberry bubble tea. This was very cold and I did get a bit of brain freeze. The bubbles are black tapioca beads that have the texture of gummy bears and were odd to watch slide up through my straw. The flavor was exceptionally good and the drink stayed icy throughout the meal. Overall, it was a fun place to stop and try another cuisine that is hard to find around town. Although it has items that are similar to those offered at nearby restaurants, the business did a brisk business the entire time we dined there. it must be the service and food being a high quality. p.s. This is a great place. I've had a chicken salad, which is like a sweet tasting slightly pickled cabbage and carrots mixed with chicken. Doesn't sound like much but it's fire. Their spring rolls dipped in the hoisin/peanut butter sauce are also delicious. My boyfriend's pho was delicious, nice and flavorful. I had a pho with a pork broth so it wasn't as flavorful but the ingredients were quality. I've had their pad Thai, which I honestly just didn't care for. It's not as sweet as it should be in my opinion. My boyfriend did like it tho. We've also had their Thai iced tea and they are also delicious. I think a little more coconut milk could be added to the tea, but that wouldn't stop me from ordering it again. Very friendly service as well. read more

I have to update and bump up my rating because the quality, service and yum factor is consistently great at Pho 36. I find myself craving the grilled pork banh mi, the veggie pho and the shrimp spring rolls. All ingredients are always fresh, and the employees are charming and friendly. My one complaint is that the restaurant is not big enough, but we have never had an issue with finding a table. It just seems a little cramped at times, especially on weekend nights. However, this never deters my family from visiting. read more

First time eating here and I'm impressed! We got seated immediately and got drinks quickly. We ordered some apps and we don't eat pork so they easily customized it for us which is always a plus. Food came out quickly and was awesome. You can ask for extra heat and they will bring you chili paste , sooo good! I used to love this place but today's visit was bad. I walked in to pick up a carry out order and the woman who I think is an owner was standing chit chatting with the only table in there. It's fine that she was talking to them but I stood there for over 5 minutes before being helped and what was she talking about with them? That she thinks an employee is a liar because they called off saying their mom had a heart attack. She called them a liar because the mom had no symptoms. Okay well if heart attacks always gave symptoms people wouldn't die from them...... it felt very unprofessional and she kept saying she can't trust her employees. Finally someone came from the back to take my money and make my boba. The boba wasn't good it tasted very weird. Idk it was all around a bad visit and hearing that woman talk about her employees like that made me very uncomfortable. read more

Yes I moved here from CA two years ago an I've been dying for some good Pho an I finally found this place. Ugh... it's hard being out of CA there are so many excellent restaurants out there that aren't here in Indy. trying to be patient in my searches out here , go back to CA you say Nope not going back it's to crowded an expensive an it never rains in Southern CA. getting back to this restaurant it's great for being in my area if you like Asian type food come here. This was good pho. With a Vietnamese bestie and history of being in the SF Bay Area and some good pho experiences up in Chi-town and St. Louis, I liked this pho. The broth was flavorful, which to me is the key. Portions are fair. We all got the small and had a little bit of left over for lunch the next day (which was great). My dad ate his whole bowl and my brother had some soup left he took home too. We did get banh-xeo for an app, which was pretty good. I do wish the veggie plate they bring out was bigger. The plate we got for me, my dad and my brother ... I wish it was all for one bowl. So a little bummed about that. The place is very small and we came on a VERY cold night. Many people were picking up things for take out and every time the door opened, a cold breeze came through. The bathroom (one) was clean though and very warm. The handles were broken off and the paper towels were out, just minor things otherwise. I've been here once before for the banhmi sandwiches, which are also very good and reasonable. Parking is just right out front and free :) All in all, best pho I've had in Indy. My first Pho experience! I decided to give this place a try after driving past it for the last few months and always wondering. After initially embarrassing myself and ordering some Pho (Foe instead of Fuh), I received a plate with three egg rolls and dipping oil and a giant bowl of steaming Pho. I ordered the beef broth with round steak and beef brisket pieces. The giant bowl of Pho was accompanied by a plate of fresh veggies (basil, cilantro, jalapenos, lime wedge and bean sprouts) to add at my discretion Before digging in, I took a taste of just the broth. Amazing. I know this is going to sound silly, but it just tasted so complex, like a lot of time went into it. I started adding some of the herbs and veggies and a big squeeze of lime juice, then dug into the rice noodles. You can't be shy here, folks. You ARE going to slurp a lot and, if you're super unskilled with chopsticks like me, potentially get some broth on your shirt. It's totally worth it, though. Filling and delicious. Since it has been a few years since I first reviewed Pho 36, I thought I would do an update. Pho 36 is now my FAVORITE location for pho in the Indianapolis area. It is a great restaurant that is locally owned and operated by a Great family. Pho 36 would be the perfect location for someone new to Vietnamese cuisine & pho to take their first "test drive" of the options. I also think this restaurant would be a good choice for someone new to any kind of "non-American" cuisine to try to broaden their palates to something different than burgers and chicken fingers. The owner will take his time to explain menu items, answer questions you have, make recommendations, and even offer suggestions on how to eat trickier/more complex items like pho (especially in the case of pho. My husband & I both learned how to eat pho by basically spying on other people in other restaurants or by watching Anthony Bourdain eat it on TV, lol. We would have loved a real in-person explanation when starting-out). When we are in there, I love hearing him take his time to explain items, even when the place is packed. He is the waiter, server, busboy & cashier simultaneously, WORKS HIS REAR OFF, and still takes the time to educate his customers & offer suggestions if needed. The owners are also great about recognizing their regular customers. Case in point, when we were in last evening, after a 2-3 month hiatus (sorry :-(), he brought 2 iced teas to our table without us even asking. He knows us. Speaking of their iced tea, it is jasmine tea that is unsweetened (sweeteners are available) and it is OUTSTANDING. I feel like I probably drink a gallon of it when we're in there, and sometimes I feel guilty about that, but it's delicious. Another perk about this restaurant, It. Is. CLEAN! The dining room is kept in great condition and from the peeks I have seen back into the kitchen from the dining area (through the door or window), and it looks impeccable compared to some other restaurants in town I have had Pho in... Some people might complain about slow service, but this is a truly family run business with a small crew who all have to multi-task to the extreme. We don't mind that it might be a while until we get our check on a busy weekend night...because we know the owner is off providing excellent customer service at another table and will get to us when he can, and it gives my husband & I a chance to slow-down & just enjoy being present. A few of our favorite dishes at Pho 36: *Appetizer- Fried Rice Cakes with Egg-- This is our favorite appetizer and it is what we tend to start our meal off with each time (I think the owner has it written down on the pad before we even open our mouths to order now...lol). The rice cakes are kind of the consistency of little dumplings, that have a lovely pan sear on them. They are then sauteed with eggs & green onions. Then topped with a lovely pickled carrot/daikon garnish & black pepper. It is then served with an amazing dipping sauce that is so yummy I could drink it with a straw...but no worries, I restrain myself. *Appetizer- Spring Rolls-- I'm not normally a fan of the soft/cold type of spring rolls, but I like them here. The couple times we have had them they have been freshly made & delicious. * The Pho--- They offer several variations of pho, with most of the variations being what type of meat is served in it. There's no mystery meat at this Pho Shop!! (some would be sad by the lack of mystery meat...but I like easily recognizable cuts of meat). I typically get the rare beef with meatballs. My husband normally gets a combo with brisket & rare beef (I think). I love to super-spice mine with the hot sauce, especially in the fall when my sinuses start rebelling. I am always impressed with the quality & quantity of the garnishes that are served here (typically includes cilantro, basil, bean sprouts, jalopeno & lime...and a heaping pile of it). *The Vermicelli- it's outstanding here, and they offer several varieties of this too. My personal preference is for the grilled pork with eggrolls option...because it is like getting your entree with a bonus appetizer surprise in it. I love the delicious complexity of their vermicelli sauce here. For those that aren't aware, the noodles in vermicelli are served cold. This was a shock to me the first time when I didn't know, but it's delicious. *I forget the name, but they have a "pork in a clay pot" dish that is Delicious. It's served to you in a clay pot, with tender, delicious slices of pork that are in a bubbling-it's-so-hot sauce that is delicious (but very salty, be sure to drink lots of that delicious tea, as mentioned above). It's served with a side of rice. You can get it with catfish too, but I can't attest to how that version is, since I don't eat catfish. *Boba Tea--it's ok here. It's served smoothie style & it fills a boba tea craving for me (why aren't there more boba tea places in Indy?!) read more
