I don't eat Pho often but I decided to give it a try on Christmas Eve. I ordered take-out, the shrimp and imitation crab pho. I wanted to enjoy it but it was just okay. The shrimp didn't have a taste to it at all and the imitation crab was certainly something I could have done without. I had to use the sauce they provide to flavor the dish which in my opinion, a dish should have it's own flavor and the sauce be an addition. We were told our order would be ready in five minutes. We waited twenty five minutes which is a far cry from five. read more

While we were in Galveston overseeing some work done to my childhood home, my mom asks me where we should eat lunch. I was craving Vietnamese so we went here. I've given Pho 20 the Yelp treatment before, and since it's been almost six years since my last visit, I felt my four-star review needs an update following our nice meal here. We decided to keep it simple with just Vietnamese egg rolls and the house special fried rice. The egg rolls were a great start while the delicious fried rice, which I haven't had before, met my expectations. Riddled with a solid amount of meat and shrimp, the fried rice was basically a meal itself. An accompanying entrée wasn't required. All in all, not bad for $26. Though the restaurant is on the usually busy Broadway not too far from The Strand, not too many people were here except for us two, an elderly man, and a group of four women. Pho is my favorite so of course I had to try some in the island. Upon entrance I was a bit out off becuase it has a smell. Not like and food or anything but kind of like old cleaning products. The service is standard and the pho itself is okay. Maybe a 5 or 6/10. Their dither Vietnamese dishes are much better. Nonetheless, it is one of the better options on the island if you NEED some pho. read more

The pricing seemed reasonable given today's environment, however some may equate Vietnamese food as being generally less expensive. Not anymore! The ambience within the establishment was surprisingly upscale compared to the exterior of the building. It was very nice. Homeless person first day working was my waiter, not his fault. Says just tell me the # on the menu for what you want. Ordered viet egg rolls appetizer and Pho, Pho comes first, no vegetable plate and the Pho was luke warm and brisket was grey. Send back to reheat. Get my eggrolls, cold, looked like from bag. My husband and I just had the most fabulous meal at pho 20. John had a shrimp pho and I had a tofu salad. The ingredients were so Fresh and spiced JUST RIGHT! I really like the Pho Ga and the spring rolls. I haven't tried much else because the attitude of the wait staff and even the owner is horrific. I mean, if business is so good you don't need any customers then I am happy for you. However, I would suggest folks find another place to get pho. I gave 1 because we don't have 0 star option. first of all, I want to warn everyone here, THE MENU PRICE IS THE NOT FINAL PRICE, if you pay not cash you'll pay 5% or more for ALL. And I argued this point for a while and the waiter is very rude to us. He showed very busy and called his manger and asked us to ignore the increased prices. By the way when we walked into this restaurant there's no any customer inside but we wait for more than 20 mins to get our iced water. Came here and ordered egg-rolls and pho yesterday, whata disappointment! Skinny egg-rolls had little meat and salty. Pho was the same too salty, we sat and tried to finish our food then came small insects crawling into our dipping sauce. My husband was about to scream, I said let's finish up, leave and never return. This is the worst place in taste since I grew up eating Vietnamese food. Save your money and tummy for something better, go somewhere please. In addition, the server was like a robot...too robotic in their serving. Everything was awful including the sewer smell. Would've been a 1 star, but luckily the chef remade the food. Came here about two years ago and it was excellent, but now it's very different. Food has gone way downhill since Covid. The business takes zero pride in their product and have terrible customer service. They often serve food that is cold and or soggy, nothing comes fresh here anymore. Don't dare order on a Mon-Wed bc they're still serving Fridays food. It's like they cook twice a week. It's very sad to see a once loved staple of Galveston go downhill so fast. They raised their prices during Covid substantially and the food just got too bad for me to support the business. Been here a couple times. Offers authentic Vietnamese cuisine. Pho is good (and probably the best you can find on the island but not better than what you could get in Houston). Catfish in clay pot (F1) is amazing. Would highly highly recommend, especially if you haven't tried it before. It's so tender and juicy, with a hot savory sauce and a huge plate of white rice. I've grown up with this dish and Pho 20 does a great job of making it. Salt and Pepper Squid on the other hand was not good. 2/5. The batter tasted like "old oil" and the squid didn't taste fresh (probably frozen if I had to guess). I also grew up with this dish so was excited to try it but was definitely let down. The fried rice is not your typical brown-with-veggies rice! Beware! It's just a yellow buttered rice and not worth the $1 upcharge in my opinion. The menu was not clear about this "fried rice" being yellow butter rice so I was highly disappointed. Overall the food is ok. Best thing about this place is the versatility with pho/vietnamese dishes as well as some general Asian stir fries.

After being a loyal customer for years even before they moved to their current location, I will not be back. To have the female manger come to our table and tell my mother not to order this plate again because she always sends it back was absolutely absurd. She kept arguing instead of accepting the fact the dish was not up to par. This was the first time she ever ordered the TSO Chicken. The sauce tasted like vinegar and tasted nothing like General TSO chicken. The chicken was soggy as if it had been sitting out and was just tossed into the sauce. The service was terrible as we were the only two diners in the restaurant until another gentleman came in I'm more than sure overheard the manager. I'm sad to say that the quality of the food has decreased since the last time we visited (approximately a year ago). It was ok, but not tremendous. The most notable thing was that they seem to be cutting the sriracha on the tables with ketchup. There was a distinct ketchup flavor to the sriracha, and the color and thickness was atypical for sriracha. Very off-putting. We laughed about it until we almost cried, but we'll not be returning. That was impressive but maybe an indication of the overall lack of food quality and attention during preparation. First of all I came here pre-pandemic and the food was good. Post-pandemic I have eaten here twice and the food was terrible. This last time I ordered takeout and it was literally the worst Asian food I have ever had. I ordered the sweet and sour tofu. The order size was very small for the price, but that would have been acceptable if it would have been good. The tofu and vegetables themselves were nothing special and bland. The sweet and sour sauce came in a separate container and looked like the cheap stuff I would find at a Chinese buffet. It had solidified in the bottom of the container, so I had to spread it over the tofu and vegetables like jelly. I will never go back. read more

I would say the food are more catered to tourists in Galveston, bit pricey and not authentic. Pho with variation of beef - small portion, meat is meh tofu clay pot - taste more like Chinese than Vietnamese We were charged $5 ($2.50 for each person) for a pot of tea which we normally get it free in NYC Chinese restaurants. Will look for other restaurants if I ever visit Galveston again. read more

I've eaten here on several occasions on my visits to Galveston TX. Now that I have had the opportunity to try several different items, I feel I finally have grounds for a thorough review. This little Vietnamese restaurant is situated straight down 45 south coming into Galveston TX; very easy to find. The parking is a bit weird since it's right on the corner of the street, but nothing too complex. The inside is calming and well styled. Wooden accents and little cultural statues and paintings make the place feel genuine. We started by ordering tea for all three of us there. If you aren't used to the tap water of this area, I don't recommend the tea. Though required to used a filtration system in restaurants, the water used for the tea has a very strong after taste. I couldn't drink it and ordered a can soda instead, and I was still charged for both. I don't agree with the charge for the tea, but I did not complain. For appetizers, we have the beef spring rolls and Vietnamese egg rolls. The spring rolls are great. The beef is well marinated and the vegetables fresh and well accompanied with the sweet and savory peanut sauce. The Vietnamese egg rolls are nice and crispy, served with a fish sauce and a few leafs of romaine. I've had fish sauce in many Vietnamese restaurants, and usually the fishy-ness is dialed down, probably for the more American style palate, but this one is more pungent. If you don't like too much fishy in your fish sauce, I recommend using the peanut sauce instead, or just simple soy sauce. The chicken fried rice was okay. The portion of onion in it is a bit much for me. Usually if there is more onion I prefer it to be well cooked so as to not get the bitter bite of raw onion. The chicken was different than in any other fried rice I've eaten. It looks almost as though it is grilled chicken than is then chopped and tossed in. Perhaps chicken used for other entrees is used here to keep food cost low. Not a terrible choice, but I personally wouldn't have it again. The lo-mein was quite enjoyable. The noodles were well cooked and coated in a flavorful sauce. The meat was well seasoned and the balance of ingredients seemed to be just right. It's also a pretty large portion. Now, for what every Vietnamese spot is judged by, the Pho. It came out hot, which is a MUST for me, I don't like luke-warm broth. The cuts of meat were good, just a bit tough for my liking. The meatball in it had a very strong beefy flavor, I'm not sure why. I've had the pho here before and never had that happen. Perhaps it was just this batch. The noodles were perfect, and the broth was warming and comforting. The flavor wasn't as deep in the broth as I like, but still a great tasting broth. For me the food here still needs some tweaking. Also, I would recommend they get a better filtration system for the tea and any other beverages they used tap water for. Perhaps it might be affecting the food flavor as well for recipes requiring water (Pho). My total was over 50$ and I honestly don't see myself going back in the near future. Maybe in a year or so I'll give it another shot. read more

After being sick for 2 days straight from a bad allergic reaction, I finally got my appetite back and figure pho (the Vietnamese penicillin), would be the best bet to get me back on my feet. From cleanliness to atmosphere, service to food, this place hit all marks! I ordered the Vietnamese hot and sour soup, hubs got the pho, and we split the Vietnamese egg rolls. All 5 stars. Bonus: they have rice paper dishes which are even hard to find in Houston, a Mecca for global eating including wonderful Vietnamese from various regions. Absolutely loved our meal and will be back!! Got delivery while visiting Galveston, worst experience with delivery and quality I have ever seen. Food was cold, wrong, soup delivered without bowl or utensils even though specified on order, sauces that were paid extra for not included. When I called, the response was that they never have bowls or utensils with pho. They did not correct any of the problems or even care. $60+ for bad food, service and attitude without any remorse or care is ridiculous. read more

I have always been the biggest fan of Pho 24 years ever since they were on Broadway years ago... But the food is gotten outrageously expensive the amount has gotten much smaller and the quality is just not there... I spent $45 on a meal today which consisted of house lo mein large sweet hot and sour soup and a large rainbow salad how that all ended up being $45 is beyond me and it wasn't worth it at all.. pho tai is best on Island. Worst service ever. The waiter had the worst attitude. His facial expression was appalling rolling his eyes at us. And treated us like we could "afford" their subpar Vietnam food. The restaurant is kind of older, but to me that isn't that important. The service was okay. The char-grilled chicken was hard and not hot. Felt like it was made before and heated in the microwave.
