Okay so this is going to be long, but I had a very unpleasant experience and feel like it is important to share both negative and positives from businesses. Times are hard, money is tight for a lot of people. If you choose to spend your money, it should be at a business that acts like they want your business. My wife was craving pho from pho 20, we normally eat dinner at pho tai. I've never had pho 20, but I looked at the pics online and thought it looked yummy, so I called to order. The woman who answered the phone was not very helpful when I was asking questions about the menu, so I went with chicken lo mein. You cant go wrong with chicken lo mein.. or so I thought. She wanted veggie pho and we both wanted Vietnamese egg rolls. I also ordered a mango bubble tea with tapioca balls and asked her not to make the drink until I got there. She said ill make the drink, and I said well I would appreciate if you waited so the ice doesn't melt. She finally agreed to wait. So that's what I ordered. She said 10-15 mins, I live a few blocks from the restaurant, so I was there within 15 mins, without any issues. The sign on the door said take out only, there was one customer leaving as I was walking in, but the restaurant was otherwise empty. The woman at the register wasn't covid compliant, she wasn't wearing a mask. I should have said never mind and left right then and there. The young girl who prepped my drink was wearing a mask, I'm not sure about the kitchen staff. When the girl was making my drink I asked if she could add a few more tapioca to the drink, not half a glass full, just a few more, because it was looking like it barely covered the bottom of the cup. The woman at the register stared blankly at me and said nothing. I waited for a min and stared back and then finally asked her again, could she add a few more tapioca balls to the tea. By this time she processed my card and handed me a receipt. I looked down, left a hefty tip, and when I handed the receipt back, she said, "it cost more". She never specified how much "more" was and just stood there. I paused and thought about the tip I just left and wondered if she couldn't spare .30 cents (?) more of tapioca and if it was worth it to even point that out.. I also wasn't going to get annoyed over tapioca balls. So I said forget it. FF to when we get home. I open up my lo mein and there was not much chicken. I tasted it and it was VERY bland and was room temp, barely even warm. The noodles were soggy and overcooked. Luckily we have stir fry sauce so I made a bowl added the stir fry sauce and warmed it in the microwave. That helped the flavor, but the noodles were already so soggy, I should have pan fried them, but then if I am having to do all that, that defeats the purpose of ordering takeout.. The Vietnamese egg rolls were mediocre and also room temp. There were no vermicelli noodles inside either. The fish sauce they sent with it was gross and stunk! I've never had any that had such an unpleasant smell. I decided to use duck sauce I already had at home. The positive of this is the pho was delicious. They serve the broth in a container and the veggies and noodles in another container. When you get home you add them together and eat it that way. My wife had to warm it up because it was also room temp. So.. I think they must make large portions of noodles and sauces and when people place an order, they make the order, but it isn't as fresh because it has been sitting there for a while, waiting to be mixed up. I went around 6 pm so it should have been fresh. Check out the pics, you can see for yourself. The atmosphere and the service was 10/10. The employees were super attentive and I definitely felt under dressed. I ordered the pho dac biet. The broth is very watered down and not all that great. I added a lot of sriracha and hoisin sauce to make it interesting. The bowl came in only one size. The meat and noodles were enough to leave me satisfied. It's not a bad place. Would give it a zero star of I could worst customer service. I'm vietnamese and come in hoping to get some veitnamwss food. When asked about why my coffee doesn't taste like a normal vietnamese coffee (I like my coffee strong and bitter the vietnamese way) she rolls her eyes at me and said well we make it American way very sweet but I'm tell her I'm diabetic and can't have it too sweet.. pho was crazy salty too over cooked noodles. Had the Vietnamese egg rolls and they were very good. Our main dishes were fried noodle combo and a tofu noodle dish. They were just okay. Nothing special. I think we will give this place another try in the future. The egg rolls came out cold so they gave me 2 more to make up for it. read more

Wasn't good at all, as i was sitting ready to order the menu was way to small plus hard to read, the thai tea tasted horrible as it was sour and not milky like, food was way more horrible plus it has a ridiculous price it should of had been cheaper for something bad like it, the food was also bland and the fish sauce had no taste of real fish sauce, customer service was ok but the food and drinks was not it reminded me of dog throw up, the rice was all dry but some parts were full on wet, the food was so disgusting that i got food poisoning from it, i wouldn't recommend it to anyone looking for a vietnamese restaurant to eat at unless you're looking for bland, soggy, dry, and artificial tasting food, if you want real vietnamese food go to an actual vietnamese restaurant that will serve you real vietnamese food instead of microwaved packaged food. read more

Shockingly very good pho in touristy Galveston, and almost all pho under $8 to boot! Broth is tasty and not overly salty, good sized portions (though only 1 size), good variety of pho and an upscale interior...think of an above-average Chinese banquet restaurant and the inside of Pho 20 is like that with several banquet rooms. All in all, would 100% return next time I'm in Galveston, great Pho, superb service and an excellent value. read more

I came here with my husband and the in-laws for dinner. We started off with the Vietnamese egg rolls and they were very crispy and tasty. I ordered their catfish simmered in fish sauce in a clay pot. The flavor was so delicious! My husband ordered the Vietnamese Hot and Sour Soup and he loved it as it was filled with lots of veggies and chicken. So we gave this place another shot. Here on the Island we don't have a lot of ethnic types of food, so beggars can't be choosers. I had the Pho Gha and Jason had the beef steamed rice plate. Average price: $7-12 Pho is $7.35 Positives: -nice ambience, clean -private rooms for parties or gatherings -bathroom is fairly clean -customer service is fine -free parking -value is not bad. You seem to get a lot of food for what you pay for. Negatives: -the pho wasn't that great I would give this place a 3 to 3.5 stars overall. It's fine. Service is fine, ambience is fine, value is fine. The only thing is that the pho just wasn't that great in my opinion. It had some interesting things in it, like bamboo shoots and mushrooms and those baby corn (I hate those). And the flavor just wasn't that great. I think it was more Chinese than Vietnamese. Overall, I don't think I was too pleased with this spot. I go to pho restaurants quite a bit and I felt that this place lacked authenticity. I ordered the pho bo Vien and taro bubble tea. The tea was decent, but I've had better. The pho was EXTREMELY salty. I mean, I forced myself to finish at least half because I had to work a long night. I'm not sure if it was a different ingredient that made it that way but it definitely tasted like I was putting straight salt in my mouth. Even trying to only eat the noodles was a hassle because of course those are salty as well from sitting in the broth. The 2 stars are literally only for the meatballs. I'm still rating Pho 20 as a three-star establishment, although this time not because of the food (my Rock and Roll Beef was excellent), but due to the fact that they did not have the air conditioner on and I think I was sweating faster than the condensation was building up on my glass of iced water. On my most recent trip myself and a partner split an order of beef spring rolls with peanut sauce and I had the Rock and Roll Beef with Fried Rice, which was listed as a chef specialty. The beef spring roll was unassuming and pretty much like every other beef spring roll I have had. As for peanut sauce, I like for it to have a bit of a kick and taste "peanutty". Pho 20's peanut sauce has a nondescript sweet flavor, that tastes like many moons ago a peanut *MIGHT* have gone swimming in it. Oh well...the entree that followed was much better. I was given an ample serving of tender and savory sliced beef, along with Pho 20's excellent fried rice. I am a big fan of their fried rice -- one of the best I have ever had. I'm not sure what they do to it, but its always moist and extremely flavorful. The shrimp spring rolls were delicious and the dipping sauce- some sort of peanut butter sauce paired with the flavors In the spring roll perfectly with just the right bit of added sweetness. The pho: I ordered it to go and returned to work with it still hot enough to cook the eye of round just right. The stock was delicious and well balanced with the perfect amount of fat around the edge of the container. All the veggies to go in the pho were fresh and crisp. Noodles cooked evenly and perfectly proportioned to add into the soup. This was my first experience with pho 20, and everything I had heard was correct. Pho 20 has the best Vietnamese cuisine in town. My family and I have been going here for more than 4 years and have never had a bad experience with the service and food. It's what you would expect with other Viet restaurants--huge Pho portions. The broth is always delicious. It's definitely a to-go place for anyone just wanting soup. The management is wonderful and very friendly people. I know there's a new hiring of staff and I can see they're still really new with not much knowledge of the food items, but I'm looking forward for their success in this restaurant. Pho 20 is a relaxing place to enjoy Asian cuisine on the island. The food is well-priced and above average, although the chicken was somewhat atypical in appearance. It seemed to be dark meat, and there was some fat, and since many places use all-white breast meat, you should prepare for that. Otherwise, this seems to be pretty authentic Vietnamese food (as far as this born-and-bred Caucasian Western New Yorker would know). The menu is varied and well-priced. We didn't l-o-v-e the dishes we ordered, but for the size of the island-- it was pretty good. :) read more
