Broad and Market streets in Philly

A while back, I bought a Groupon for food at this Philthy Philly's location. I decided to redeem it on a Saturday after running some errands. I still had under a month to redeem it, which is pretty early in my books. This location is in a small plaza. I had no problems backing into a spot across from the eatery. I walked in. I waited patiently at the counter. One woman said that she would get to me soon, which was nice. There were plenty of tables and chairs just before 2 pm. A younger man came over to help me out. I indicated that I had a Groupon and showed it to him. He seemed somewhat new and just looked at me. I asked whether he wanted to scan it now or if I should place my order. My question triggered him to get his iPad and scan my coupon. Moments later, a woman came over to take my order. I got the following items: - Philly cheesesteak (regular size with beef, mushrooms, peppers, and provolone cheese) - Bacon poutine (Phil size, which is small) - Diet Coke I got my receipt with my order number. I sat at a table and put my jacket over my chair that was rickety. I didn't wait all that long. The man called my order number. I went up and said that I just wanted lettuce on my cheesesteak. I then asked what sauces he would recommend. He suggested giving either the Philthy sauce (whisky barbeque) or southwest chipotle (more of a kick) a try. I went with the former. When you first look at the regular Philly cheesesteak, it looks small. However, clap the bread together and take a bite. It's delicious. I felt like I was in Philly having my first cheesesteak over a decade ago. The beef was tender and flavourful, I loved the peppers and mushrooms, and the cheese held everything together. The bun was lightly toasted. I loved the Philthy sauce. Yum! Poutine can be hit or miss for me. I am also the type who gets bored of fries. I ate all my poutine. The fries were perfect. The gravy was yummy. The cheese curds were stretchy. It was like the person putting the poutine together had made sure that each fry had cheesy goodness and gravy on it throughout the box. I ordered the bacon poutine. If you like crispy bacon, you aren't getting it in this poutine. It's more on the cooked side where your bacon has body and movement. I love bacon and enjoyed not getting it super crispy. The guy asked how my food was. It was excellent. I can't wait to come back and try more cheesesteak and poutine varieties. (430)

I've been waiting to try this place for a while. I have a cheesesteak expert staying with me so I thought it was the perfect time to give it a chance. Even though indoor dining is technically allowed in Durham, they are still only doing take-out orders. All tables have been pushed to the sides. There are social distancing stickers on the ground and Plexiglas protecting their employees. They take orders through Skip The Dishes and UberEats. We called to put in our order over the phone. The menu is a little confusing as it doesn't point out what toppings come with the sandwiches and also doesn't list the sauces that you can choose from. The gentleman taking the order was very patient with us and explained all of the choices to us. It took about 15 minutes for us to get there and our order was being wrapped up at that time. One awesome thing was that the employee that was working our order offered us 'free' sodas. Basically the combination of things we ordered would result in a free pop even if we didn't explicitly order it and he didn't want us to miss out. Nice customer service! So my bar was set pretty low for the cheesesteaks since I have had the real thing in Philly. I was happy to see that they used Amaroso's rolls which was a step in the right direction. They looked a little bit smaller than what I was used to as being a normal size in Philadelphia. The first bite was surprisingly pretty good! The steak was tender with no gristle. It was a little bit drier than I would have preferred but still decent. Someone else in my party had The Big Texan cheesesteak with all toppings except for the spicy one. That one was a really tasty sandwich that was packed to the brim with meats and veggies. I'd definitely recommend this one. Another honorable mention was the perogie poutine. We got the smallest size and it came with 3 potato and cheese perogies with onions and bacon on top. Very unique and tasty!

Nice little place that distracted me from "fat bastard burrito" next door. They had a Tuesday $5 deal on a small cheesesteak or poutine, so I opted for the sandwich. Soft bun, but not a traditional philly-style. Lots of cheese choices and fresh toppings. But my focus is the meat - after researching the whole "Geno vs Pats" in Philadelphia (sliced vs chopped ribeye), I'm up to speed on the subject, which is why the 'chopped and formed' pseudo meat here was a bit of a disappointment (this is the kind of meat you find in the freezer at a supermarket, and it is the hot dog version of ribeye: blended and processed, spat out into sheets, cut and frozen). Any place focused on cheesesteak needs to have real meet, so it gets a 3 from me.

I was sick as a dog this weekend, so I decided to order some take out. I chose Philthy Philly's because a lot of my friends had recommended it. My bf and I ordered the Big Eh sandwich and the Meat Lover's poutine, both in the size Philthy. Both of the items were about 16 dollars before tax and tip. Wow, the poutine really was massive! The sandwich, on the other hand, was a bit smaller than a 12 inch sub from Subways, so I thought the portion was a little underwhelming for the price we paid. How did we feel about the taste? Well, we had mixed feelings. Both items had generous amounts of meat, which was a nice change from the usual lack of meat we get from other fast food joints. However, all we could taste was oil and salt. Now, I'm sure some people really adore this taste combination - that's why Philthy Philly's is so popular! We, however, were thrown off and couldn't stomach the lack of diversity in the taste. We finished the sandwich in the end and we are saving the poutine to cook up as part of a fried rice dish (to dilute the intense flavour). My bf and I will probably not go back to this fast food joint, but we would still recommend it for anyone who enjoys oilier and saltier dishes.

'Murica... F.U.C. Ya!! We came here after spending great time at the beach. I got the philly cheese steak with poutine. Tastes philthy in a very good way. Portions are 'Murican. Wonderful, friendly service. Philthy and they know it. If you love philthy, greasy foods then check this place out. Please eat responsibly.

Sitting in this restaurant right now at 8:30 PM on a Thursday night and realized I had to change my previous rating to 5 stars. Came here with a crowd of 10 people and got phenomenal service, even when we burst in loudly and then debated on what to order for a solid 15 minutes. Service is always great here, immensely friendly and going above and beyond to help their customers feel at home. Philthy Philly's poutine is pretty standard across their different locations, usually a 3 to 4 stars depending on the variety you order. The Greek-style poutine is my favourite but out of all the Philthy Philly locations I have visited, this is definitely the best. Customer service is insanely good (Philthy's at Victoria Park doesn't even begin to compare to the service here!) We were repeatedly checked up on as we ate, and well-wished and thanked on our way out the door. They even remembered my sister who had last visited 6 months ago! tl;dr: check this Philthy's out ASAP for great poutine and the best customer service in the GTA

I just found out about this place and was really looking forward to it. Unfortunately I was disappointed with the experience. Let's start with the good stuff... friendly service, big portions, lot's of toppings, great presentation, nice place. My food arrived and it looked great! Then I take a bite and get this liver after taste from the meat... yuk! This tends to happen when using poor or cheap cuts of meat. Three words... 'eye of round'. That is the cut of meat you should use for a Philly steak. On top of that the steak wasn't seasoned and overcooked/dry. You get this impressive amount of fries and onion rings, but the oil they were cooked in was dirty so they were dark and oily. Really it's a shame as they have the right idea... great marketing, menu and the right approach to building a Philly steak the way you want it. Unfortunately the quality just wasn't there. I don't know if it's the same at the other location or if this is just a management problem at this location. In any case I drove a long way to try this place and was disappointed. You can get a much better Philly steak at Retro Burger or Pete's Big Bite.

Regular Philly Cheesesteak

This was my first time dining at a Philthy Philly's and I enjoyed my Philly Cheesesteak. I had passed by it many times before so when I saw the deal on Groupon I decided to buy it so I would finally go and try it. I brought my sister and her boyfriend along with me. I ordered a regular Philly Cheesesteak. I got onions, green peppers, and jalapenos on mine and went with the Jalapeno Monterey Jack cheese. Mushrooms and banana peppers were the other free toppings you could choose from. Once my sandwiches was ready I got to pick our sauce so I went with Southwest Chipotle and Philthy Sauce. If you like horseradish, my sister and her bf love Jeanette's Kicked up Horsey sauce. Her boyfriend got one of their poutines. I dont know if I would come here for their poutine, probably just stick with the sandwich. We also got a regular order of the feta fries to split. I liked the flavour of everything together and thought the size of the sandwich was very filling, although it wasn't very cheesy. Fries were under dressed, but okay. Prices do seem a bit high for what you are getting and there is a good wait once you order your food. I will probably return eventually now that I know I can get a decent Philly Cheesesteak here.

Ryan is the founder of the business, which he runs with family and friends. We got to meet Riott, his son, who had a love for skulls and all Halloween decorations at this eatery. This place specializes in sandwiches. Many of their meats are slow-cooked for ten hours. Sauces, soups, and slaw are homemade. We ordered many items off the menu and had what we liked: - Jalapeno and house slaws - Chickpea and ham soup - Roasted garlic and tomato soup - The Brooklyn (Italian) - Hot corned beef - Montreal smoked meat - Slicey's chopped chicken - Chicken club wrap I started with the hot corned beef sandwich. The corned beef was generous and so flavourful. The rye bread held all that tender corned beef together, along with the best grainy mustard aioli. I am a soup girl. I enjoyed the roasted garlic and tomato soup. It had the perfect amount of garlic with tomatoes, along with onions and spices. It was a comforting, smooth soup. The chickpea and ham soup was excellent. It had nice cubes of ham with chickpeas. It was so hearty and delicious. I also love slaw. The jalapeno and house slaws were crunchy. The former was creamy with a touch of heat. The latter was vinegar-based. You get the best of both slaw dressing worlds! I then had the Montreal smoked meat. It was full of the most tender smoked meat on rye bread with mustard. So good! I'm not sure how I managed to down Slicey's chopped chicken sandwich. It was so good that I did! It had slow-cooked chicken that was chopped with tomato, and red onion. It included the jalapeno slaw, along with white cheddar. It was messy to eat, but so worth it. The flavours were outstanding. This business supports other local businesses. The bread comes from a local bakery. It also features Purple Tongue hot sauces. Staff are super friendly and kind. They can craft a sandwich to your liking if you go with The Riott. There were two separate washroom stalls. I used one of them before I left this eatery. It was clean. No complaints. It's a comfortable place to hang out with friends over good food and drinks. I ended up having a Diet Coke and Crush cream soda during the two hours that we were here. They were cold and refreshing. It's street parking for three hours. It's free, which is nice. Alternatively, there is a parking lot across from this eatery. I look forward to returning for more good eats and soup. It's a gem of a sandwich place that happens to have awesome soups and slaw. (391)

No mess, no stress. That is serious business. The best part is, the ingredients taste so FRESH. As we were waiting, the friendly staff offered everyone free ice cream samples. It was 25°C sunny so it was much needed. No one refused! They're testing out flavours, so I think we will expect to see soft-serve ice cream on their menu in the near future! I got the Caprese sandwich and the fresh mozzarella was so refreshing! Geniusly, there was a layer of breadcrumbs added to my sandwich, which I found very humorous... b/c really? A bread byproduct inside of a sandwich? That was a first for me. But y'know what, the crunch element over the mozzarella was a really good pairing and it works! Also, the pesto was so fresh and good.. that I had pesto on my mind the next day and I just had to find something pesto for lunch again, the influence! Honestly, we did not have the intention of visiting Lambo's that day. We had walked past it on the way to another restaurant, but I remember this corner store with bold modern-80's decor caught my eye. After our original plans fell through, we stumbled back to this street corner which turned out to be a fantastic accident because we wound up loving Lambo's so much, we swore to come back to try the rest of their sandwiches!

I was thrilled to learn about Grandma Loves You (GLY) opening its first location in the greater Toronto area. It's in York region in Aurora. Woo hoo! A few Yelp experiences at GLY's original location in Rosedale made me love the sandwiches and croissants. It has since moved its flagship location to Yonge and St. Clair, and has opened a few more locations. I have yet to visit the one near St. Lawrence Market. Someday, I'll get there. In the meantime, I had to visit this brand new location and made my way up here two Saturdays ago. Out of all their stores, parking here is the best. It's free. It's straightforward. It's easy and stress-free. There were a set of stairs to get you to and from this place. I was hoping that there was a ramp for those who need a wheelchair somewhere. I didn't see one. I got here at around 2 pm. It was pretty busy. My original plan was to dine in. It looked like I had do takeout. I had the most helpful, sweet woman behind the counter. I wanted a meatball sandwich, which is my favourite. I was rusty ordering it. She guided me through everything. You can get their sandwiches that are like subs in either a 6" or 12". I went with the latter. She said that there was a seat just behind me. There were more like lounge chairs. I was down nabbing a comfy chair. I also got a Diet Coke in a can. I needed something to wash everything down. I paid with a credit card. I tapped and was good. She asked for my name and would call me when my order was ready. The best customer service occurred when this woman brought my sandwich to me. Wow! It was such a kind gesture. I thanked her and then tore through it. Oh, how I love the meatball sandwich! So many meatballs were packed into this sandwich. Each meatball was yummy and juicy, with the perfect amount of sauce. The lettuce, tomatoes, onions, and cheese pulled everything together with the most perfect bread. The Diet Coke was in the fridge next to where I was sitting. I grabbed a can. It was cold and delightful. Before I left, I got a white chocolate macadamia nut cookie to go. Starbucks used to offer this cookie eons ago. I don't know why the franchise took it off the menu. It was awesome. Well, this cookie was delicious and make me forget about the Starbucks one. It was packed full of white chocolate and macadamia pieces. It was just under $4 after taxes, but so worth it. I used the washroom before I left. There is only one stall. It was clean. but expect to take turns using it when it's busy. I am glad that I finally visited this location. Welcome to York region and Aurora, GLY! I'll be back for more. (398)
