The owner put me in my place, and, to be fair, I was asking for it. There are very few restaurants where you can walk in, order a sandwich, get reminded that you are not the main character, and leave thinking, "I fucking love this place." Illstyl3 Sammies is one of them. Sammy has something that feels almost contrarian in Toronto now: an actual personality. Not the carefully curated, Instagram ready kind, but the kind where you get the sense he genuinely couldn't care less about making you comfortable if it means compromising the way he wants to run his place. And I mean that as the highest compliment. Toronto has become saturated with copycat smash burgers, boba, matcha, and restaurants that seem to have been conceived from the same nauseatingly uniform Pinterest mood board. Illstyl3 feels like it was dropped here from a city where a little abrasion is part of the charm, and simply never received the memo about Toronto politeness. There's an irreverence to it that I adore. A little Soup Nazi. A little "you'll get your sandwich when you're ready to behave." And somehow, instead of being off putting, it makes the whole thing feel authentic. If your feelings get hurt because a sandwich shop owner didn't treat you like a valued shareholder, that's probably something you should unpack. Give me more places with this much chutzpah. More personality. More edge. More people who aren't afraid to be a little out there. More sammies. Food was solid too. read more

First time trying a cheesesteak sandwich and first visit to this spot. * Ill Styl3 Sammies is known for serving Toronto's best Philly Cheesesteak -- and after my visit, I can see why. * No parking available on site, but it is just a seven minute walk from Osgoode Station, making it great for commuters. * Only a few bar top seats inside, about three spots total. This is more of a grab and go setup. * No washrooms inside. * The owners are from Philly, which makes sense given how authentic the sandwiches are. * Steak is thinly sliced, cooked fresh on the flat top, topped with melted cheese, and finished with their house made hot sauce. * The menu is surprisingly large, and I am already planning to go back to try a few more sandwiches. * The owners are warm and love chatting with their customers -- the energy inside is friendly and relaxed. * Sandwiches are around fifteen to eighteen dollars and worth every bite. * Apple Pay available for quick checkout. * Located at 300 Richmond Street West, just a short walk from the subway. read more

Super, super slow! Don't come here unless you have an hour or so. They only make 2-3 sandwiches at a time and they only allow about 4 people inside at a time. All others wait on the sidewalk. When I finally was allowed inside to order I attempted to order a hoagie (which is half of their menu) and only then was I informed there were no hoagies that day.! Unbelievable...I honestly would not waste my time, there are several other sandwich shops in the area without the hassle! read more

Awesome! The owner seems like a great guy. Highly recommend. Staple in the neighbourhood.

We ventured out on an extremely hot summer day. It was 34C+. It was so hot that even the cook, maybe owner, at Illstyl3 Sammies informed us that he could make our sandwiches and then would have to take a break. We hadn't even ventured inside the small shop to check out the menu and decided upon his recommendation of cheesesteaks with provolone. There are a couple of small patio tables on the sidewalk, and I believe there are also a couple of bar stools inside. Once the sandwiches were ready, we were called back inside for our choice of sauce for the sandwiches. When we were enjoying our sandwiches, we saw many potential customers giving us curious looks since the shop was closed and we were eating sandwiches. We had to let them know that the cook was on a ten-minute break since it was so hot. The sandwich itself was finger-licking good. The AAA ribeye was tender and tasty. The sandwich was on the expensive side at nearly $15 after tax, but I could see it being shared between two people and grabbing a side of some sort to complete a meal. read more

beef mushroom jawn ($17.5) was super tasty and filling. can be a bit of a wait though.

This place is undeserving of its high rating. The service is, quite literally, the worst I've ever experienced in Toronto. The cheesesteaks themselves are mediocre and overpriced too. It's pretty well documented from the other reviews, but the owner unfortunately seems to have social issues - just look at his responses to others. He also seems to get high in the restaurant (it reeked of weed when I was there) and doesn't wear a mask. And don't even bother trying to ask him a question - you'll either get ignored or a sarcastic non-answer in response. My cheesesteak consisted of a tiny portion of beef sandwiched in between stale bread. It also took forever to make, mostly because the owner takes his time, seemingly on purpose. read more

Toronto is an amazing place for food variety. At illstyl3 Sammies, it's authentic Philly cheese steaks made by your own personal chef. Well not quite, but that's the tagline from the outside. Chef Germain is a Philly native. Both he & wife are quite chill about things and they prep impressive subs. Tried their Philly cheese steak sandwich, which was huge and loaded with fresh ingredients including AAA ribeye steak and real cheese. This is what they're known for and you're definitely getting a decent meal. Not overly meaty but the sub is enough for 2 portions. Yet the cheese steak is tasty n' saucy enough to chomp down entirely in one go once unwrapped. illstyl3 Sammies does offer other mean subs and fries too. The guy before me ordered a club sandwich loaded with fresh ham slices and veggies, that definitely looked better than Subway. Their crab fries also seem to be a hit. With so many illstyl3 options, guess I'll have to come back on another lunch run! read more

One thing I noticed here the owner doesn't seem that friendly very serious but his food speaks for itself that's all that matters, it's a small place more of a takeout, I got the cheesteak, quite big actually very fair price, got it with provolone cheese, I wanted to ask for cheese whiz as a joke but didn't want to test the owners patience lol the lady was a lot nicer, but the owner works very hard, the steak had really good flavour i believe he makes his own sauces the hot sauce is pretty hot just cautioning everyone, the steak just melts in your mouth and one sandwich can easily feed two people it the price is so worth it, and the place is halal for people that eat halal so that's pretty awesome, overall good sandwich, big portion good price, I think this would be a very good comparison to Philadelphia cheesesteak kind you I've never tried a cheesesteak in Philadelphia but this place gets and A- read more

Amazing cheesesteak. I see a lot of reviews talking about the owner/chef. While he may be a bit rough around the edges, if you get talking to him, he's legitimately a really good guy with a passion for what he does. Discovered it this summer and I think I've been there 4 times since. Def a hidden gem in this city and a place I recommend to all my friends. read more

My food was hot and delicious. Love it. Going to come back for sure. Service was great. They make the best subs in town.

At first glance, I was impressed with my sammie. The chef was attentive and asked us lots of questions as to what we wanted - what kind of cheese, how spicy, what sauces. When it was put into my hands, it was huge - great value and delicious. I devoured the whole thing in one go and regretted it - take your time. I also regret getting it so hot, I think the hot sauce prevented me from really enjoying it. The bread was excellent, perfect to deliver the sandwich and it didn't fall apart. However, I believe the sandwich made me ill. Perhaps it was because I got the first sandwich after opening, but I woke up very early the next day to symptoms of mild food posioning. It's possible it wasn't the sandwich - no one else I went with got sick - but it was the only "different" thing I ate that day. Due to this, I had to reduce my rating by 1 star. My only other complaint is that they didn't have cold cuts on hand. So my friends who didn't want a cheesesteak weren't able to buy from the shop. read more

Looked on Yelp for best Cheese Steak... Ordered the Cheese Steak Made sure I gave an extra $4.00 tip for a $12 sub. It was just basic steak sub, small skinny bun. Lacking steak, peppers, cheese and onions... you know the basic juicy Cheese Steak requirements. Wishing for a 4-5 Star but it was a 3 or 3 1/2 but just basic. read more

The basic philly cheese steak at this place is perfect. It's right across the street from the Scotiabank theatre. Every time I see a movie my first stop is this place so I can smuggle it in to the movie with me. It's just spicy enough to make it interesting. read more

Illstyl3 Sammies is located across from the main entrance to the Scotiabank Theatre. It is quite a small place where there are only 4 stools and a small tiny counter to eat so it is more of a take-out place. I ordered the platter which contains cheesesteak and fries. Now onto the food: Cheesesteak -i find that there was not enough meat to bread ratio. The bread is very thick compared to the meat in the middle. they also toast the buns. -i added BBQ sauce and ketchup and I thought it was overpowering the overall cheesesteak sandwich -For the platter, it cost $15.26, I thought there would be a little more meat Fries -very good as they add their own seasoning as well. Texture and taste is similar to Costco fries, however, I found it a bit more greasy Overall, a good cheesesteak place in the entertainment district. read more

Absolutely the worst service EVER! Went there for lunch (arrived at noon) with my 2 friends during lunch and when we arrived, there were no other customers. The owner was at the front chopping mushrooms with his head down and the other staff was in the corner slicing meat. We waited to order, but the owner did not acknowledge us at all with his head down. I finally went up to him to order my sandwich and the response I got was "... after I finish cutting the mushrooms!". As i patiently waited for him to finish, he starts making my sandwich (still head down) and asked if i wanted hot peppers and sauce, all while my 2 friends were standing behind me waiting to order. When i got my sandwich, a few more customers walked in, he realized my friends didn't order and his response was "Are you serious?! Why didn't you order?? Wtf..." Silver lining: it's a good sandwich... but is it worth dealing with terrible customer service? read more

Just a hole in the wall, I'm surprised not more people have talked about this place. It was absolutely fantastic and the sandwiches are huge. This joint is just a hole in the wall. It is mostly for pick up orders but they do have a couple of stools. I got the porchetta sammie. It had pork of course, provolone cheese, rapini and sauce. The porchetta sammie was very flavourful. The sauce makes this a delicious sandwich. This is much better than Subway and the sammie is longer than a sub. I just wish that the sammie had more meat. I may come back to try the Philly cheese steak. read more

Don't go here - the owner is incredibly rude and you can spend your money on food at many many many other places. Walked in for the first time and saw some really good looking food being eaten. Asked the customers what they ordered and what they thought of the food and the owner yelled and scolded me like I was a child for talking to them. He said I should direct any questions to him and not bother the customers. Since it's his store, that's his prerogative of what goes on inside the store but the other customers could speak for themselves and they didn't seem bothered by me asking. Thankful that forums such as Yelp! give us the opportunity to voice our thoughts. Again, don't go here. Spend your money elsewhere. read more

I came here with the hopes of having a delicious philly style cheese steak. The flavour of the meat was good, but their was hardly any meat in the bun. Most bites were almost all bun. As a result it becomes a very expensive piece of bread ($10.45 including tax). I really wanted to like it. The guy behind the counter seems like good guy who is from Philadelphia but I can get way better value for my dollar elsewhere. I definitely won't be back. read more

I was craving sandwiches at 3PM on a saturday, and busted out yelp. Came here based off the reviews. If you're in the area and looking for good food, seriously just go here. The sammy I had from illstyl3's was delectable and you can bet your ass I'll be back to order another one of them jawns. I ordered a philly cheese steak. I've only ever had one philly cheese steak sub in the past, illstyl3's sammy truly blew me away. Enough for me to write a review within 20 minutes of eating there. Beef was tender, cheese was melted, bread was fluffy, sauces were superb and the kale was a nice touch for both color and flavor. Did I mention the peppers? This was all thrown onto a flat top grill and cooked to perfection. Ingredients really came together and the chef (Germaine) was incredibly friendly. 5/5 read more

illstyl3 Sammies - Bomb ass Philly cheese st3ak sandwich. - Cheesesteaks Near Me - Toronto, Ontario

Illstyl3 Sammies brings their A-Game when it comes to anything sandwich related. Serving up a selection of cheesesteak and hoagie inspired offerings that are done in a traditional Philly style, this tiny spot on Richmond Street West is definitely attracting new regulars by the day. A very friendly and passionate owner multi-tasks at a fast pace, as he greets customers and prepares their orders. Must-try items: Philly Jawn (chicken or beef) Mushroom Jawn (chicken or beef) Catfish Po'Boy Tuna & Cheese Hoagie Porchetta Crab Fries Everything on the menu is a good bet, pretty much. There's even wings if you dare. You can expect to pay $8.50 and up for a sandwich, but every penny is worth it. This isn't fast food to say the least, so don't expect to be in and out in 3 minutes or less. Waiting and watching your food being made is part of the fun, and you can always call ahead. This is definitely a clutch addition to the Entertainment District and a great place to grab a filling lunch or dinner that actually tastes good. read more

Mmm, reminds me of the hoagies in Philadelphia. Found my new sandwich shop for Toronto. Ingredients are fresh and sandwich was delicious. Simple and satisfying. My only thing is I wish the bread was a but more softer (personal preference but my memories of Philly hoagies were that the bread was slightly crispy but ooh soo melt in your mouth soft). Would definitely come back again. Weekday lunch hour rush was a bit busy, would recommend ordering ahead of time with ritual. read more

Grabbed the classic philly today and it was soooooo good. Amazing tender beef with the right balance of condiments and flavours. I usually shy away from hot peppers but wanted to try it as authentic as possible, so I got one with everything and it did not disappoint. They make their own hot sauce also!! Even with all the sauces, the bun and beef held up without getting overwhelmed or soggy. read more

I spent four years in Philadelphia and have eaten my fair share of cheesesteaks. (Possibly in the triple digits.) illstyl3's Philly steak is good but not great, even by Philly diaspora standards, but illstyl3 is much more than a Philly cheesesteak shop. The people here clearly care about making good food and it shows through in the product. PS: if the owner is reading this I'm sorry about rolling my eyes when I thought you were charging me extra for a substitute item after you ran out of my first option. Complete misunderstanding! I've come here several times with friends. The food is always great and the portions are large. I like the regular philly cheesesteak with hot sauce. I want to try the other options eventually but the cheesesteak is already excellent so it's difficult to switch. For me, the best sandwich in Toronto. Owner/chef is cool. No indoors seating at the moment. You can go to the Grange Park nearby as the park entrance at John St has a lot of benches to enjoy your sandwich. The sandwich keeps hot in the wrapping. read more

The best Philly Cheese Steak in Toronto. Legitimately great sandwich. I ended up splitting the sandwich but wish I had an entire one for myself. Also ordered pizza fries. Clever idea and it worked really well but the sandwich stole the show. Quality meat and veggies were cooked really well. The bun was the important part. The chef kept the buns warm in the oven. It had great soft texture to them without being toasted or crunchy. This was critical, as it helped soak up the juices from the meat. Hot sauce provided a great kick. The chef/owner got that Philly attitude too. He's upfront and blunt, a very charming fellow. Will come back here for sure. Right across from Scotiabank Theatre and the entertainment district of downtown Toronto. read more

This is definitely a go to sandwich place...it has a character of its own...try the signature cheesesteak, you won't regret ;)

sub sandwich joint in a great location. very limited seating, maybe about 7 in total. try to look past the msn-messenger-username-esque name, because the food here is really damn good. the chef is from philly, so i would like to think that he knows his sandwiches. also they call their sandwiches "jawns", and it doesn't get more philly than that. very extensive and impressive menu, which i had an extremely difficult time choosing from. yes, that is a good thing. prices are close to $10. i got the south philly sandwich, which had a LOT going on. cheese and steak, as per the classic sandwich recipe, but with kale, hot peppers, garlic aioli, and hot sauce. probably not the most authentic cheesesteak, but i don't care because it was delicious. the meat had little to no seasoning, which some people may not like, but i can definitely appreciate that since it lets all the other flavours shine. the garlic aioli might have been the x-factor in this sandwich - it really elevated it to some sort of next level. the kale added good texture and, most importantly, vitamins. hey look mom, i'm eating healthy now! read more

AWEsome. Cheesesteaks are great, and definitely get a side of the illfries with garlic aoloi and hot sauce on top. It's a very small space, so it's easier to get takeout than try to eat in. It got very busy right after I got there, which is normally a good sign. read more

I'm from Pennsylvania so I know all about cheesesteaks. I'm happy to say this place was a pleasant surprise in Toronto. My cousin goes here all the time and I finally got a chance to try it my last trip up here. We got 1 philly cheesesteak and 1 south philly sandwich. Everything from the bread to the meat to the toppings were amazing. They also have a homemade hot sauce that definitely elevated the sandwich to another level. The owner also was a very nice guy. I will be back here next time I'm in town. read more

The best thing about this place is how frustrating it is to go to Philly to try a 'good' cheesesteak, only to find a better one right down the road from your office! True story. I've tried both Pat's and Geno's, and neither can hold a candle to this place. The bread is crusty but soft, the meat is juicy, the cheese and 'with'(onions) is spot on. read more

Huge fan of these sammies and an even huger fan of Germain & Mojgan. Delicious sammies, awesome owners who are excellent conversationalists, and convenient hours (open-late!). I'm looking forward to methodically making my way through the menu (tried the cheesesteak and mushroom, so far, both fabulous). illstyl3 is mostly take-out as there's limited seating available (prolly less than 10). All the same, watching Germaine put together the jawn is part of the waiting experience: the sizzle on the grill, drool-worthy aromas wafting, and TV blaring in the background for extra cool ambiance. See you guys soon! read more
