We decided to come here after our work. Its afternoon already when we came here. There are lot of customers inside. The staff and waiter seemed busy but the problem is their service was slow based on our observation. It's our first time here. After we choose our order we just took a photo while waiting to our order. Then after a minutes of waiting it came. Some of my friend like the food and some are to. Its depends of the taste of every people. But for me some of the food that we order taste good but some are not. But we eat all of our order. We just gave 4 stars rating to this place. I have been craving a Philly cheesesteak for sometime now. With all the great reviews on Yelp! The last time I had a superb cheesesteak was at Big Al's in Delray Beach, FL. Other than of course Pat's or Gino's. I walk into Philly's, after finding street parking. I order a small cheesesteak wiz, grilled onions, and ketchup, salt and pepper. They serve Amoroso buns too! I opt for the garlic version, cuz hey why not. Avoiding the Greek vampires that day. (I'm in Greektown). I go to use the bathroom. Updated and spotless. Love it. Huge kitchen in the back, and open, so I can catch a glimpse of the cook. Plenty of inside seating. My cheesesteak is ready in a timely fashion. I open it up, wow! I can't wait to dive in and so be it if my cholesterol goes thru the roof. I could die happy. The bun is soggy and falling apart, I can't figure out why??? I would like it soft on the inside and a bit of crust outside. No go. The flavor of the meat? Not so much. Granted the wiz and the grilled onions were on point, the meat lacked any juice. It was really dry. For supposedly being shaved ribeye meat, there is ZERO dripping meat factor. I have serious sad face. I think I would have liked the sandwich better had I come here drunk hungry. Truth be told, I came here only because they sold TastyKake. I saw a feature on Food Network some time ago and don't ask me why, but I was on a mission to try them. I'm glad I decided to grab a bite too because frankly I think I over-hyped TK, I found my chocolate "cupcakes" downright average. I've been to Philly's Best once before, the express outpost in Logan Square, and it was just ok; forgettable, if I'm being honest. It seemed like the menu at this location was much larger with more veggie friendly options than its sister location (but I could be wrong). I went with the "small" Veggie Works (aka 6") grinder and a small order of fries. The sandwich was good, but a I think adding some form of sauce or dressing would improve it. The grinder comes on an italian roll with mozzarella, cheddar, onion, tomato, green pepper, spinach, broccoli and mushrooms. It was really filling and there was no way I could've tackled the large version, as it was I couldn't finish the sandwich and fries. The entrance is a bit odd, once you walk in off the street and up a few steps you come to a solid metal door that looks like it might open up to a stairwell or even back out to the street. I'm guessing there was confusion since they put a handwritten sign on it so you don't stand there trying to figure out how to get in. Otherwise the inside is fine, nothing fancy, but they have a decent number of tables, should you choose to dine in. Be careful with your trash; they threaten to sic the basket police on you should you throw away your basket. Maybe if the hole for garbage was a bit bigger, baskets wouldn't get tossed so easily. Seriously, it's hard NOT to throw out the basket! This location seems to do a good business, there was a steady stream of people and deliveries going in and out late on a Saturday afternoon. It's a solid place to stop if you want a bite and want something other than Greek. read more

Philly's Best is a stretch of a name but it's not a bad place for food if you're up past your bedtime. There's lots of options including sandwiches, salads, pizza, and other gut rotting drunk food and for a pretty reasonable price tag. My advice? I'd skip the steak sandwich and go with a salad or hoagie or something. It wasn't very flavorful for a Philly and fell apart every time I tried to pick it up so it was basically like eating an unhealthy salad anyways. Overall...they were quick, cheap, and will definitely tickle your fancy if you've been out at the bars all night, but that's about it. read more

Huge disappointment! If this is how real cheesesteaks taste, I want no part of it. I paid $10 for one original steak sandwich & seasoned fries. The sandwich tasted like ground up White Castle burgers on a bun. The seasoned fries were terrible too. More like crusted fries, not seasoned like Popeyes or Checkers but had a crusted outer layer. All in all I ate the food because I was starving but was expecting better bang for my buck. UPDATE: After I posted this review, the delivery driver came back to my building!!! The concierge called me to let me know he came inquiring about whether he had delivered it or the right location; to-which they informed him HE DID NOT! The driver also proceeded to call me on my cell phone (again) and I immediately hung up the phone. The building is placing Philly's Best on the ban list for deliveries directly from their restaurant. ORIGINAL POST: Calling a customer a liar when they lost the delivery isn't a good look in the middle of a pandemic for a small business. I have been going to Philly's Best since I relocated to Chicago in February because the food is really good. However, I REFUSE to go back after the experience I had tonight. I ordered through their website and left very specific directions for the driver to drop my food off at my building which has 2 concierge entrances. The driver didn't follow directions (and he even called me right before he got to the building to ask me to come down and get the food). However, rather than waiting the 3 minutes it took me to come down the elevator, he dropped my food off at the wrong location and now they can't find it because someone else may have accidentally grabbed it with multiple orders coming in due to quarantine. I waited in the lobby for about 10 minutes thinking maybe the driver had gotten lost. None of the 3 concierges on the side I live in had an order from Philly Best logged in for delivery. So I called the restaurant and this is when it went ridiculously awful. I attempted to tell the person that picked up the phone that I had not received the food and needed to know where the driver was. The driver had just returned to the store and I heard him say in the background, "I dropped it off, so if he didn't get it, that's just tough s**t for him." I told the person on the phone that I paid for that order and even came down to the lobby (potentially exposing myself to this COVID-19) to try and get my food but it was nowhere to be found. The driver decided to call me from his cell phone and proceeded to cuss me out, telling me, "You told me to leave it with the concierge when I called and you're a f***ing liar that wants free food." He hung up the phone. When I switched back to the other line, I asked to speak to a manager or owner. Some other man came on the line trying to tell me the "driver said" he delivered it as he was supposed to and they weren't doing anything else for me. Naturally, I was beyond pissed. I told the man I was speaking with that I would contact my bank and have the charges reversed because I never received the food and they screwed up the delivery. He then told me that the "boss" had spoken to the driver and they had determined there was nothing else they would do, and if I wanted to get my money bank I could just contact my bank. This is the sign of a small business that is STRUGGLING to keep up in this pandemic. Rather than offering to remake my food and deliver it again, THIS was the response I got. They were not only rude, but the complete incompetence towards customer service is enough to overshadow any great meal I've had from this place before. And when I told the man I was speaking with that "I could have ordered from any other restaurant tonight," he responded by telling me, "well you wouldn't have had much luck because 80% of the restaurants are closed." We've been on quarantine for 3 weeks, and I haven't ordered from Philly's Best the 1st time (until tonight), so I'm pretty sure there are SEVERAL restaurants and small businesses that would be more gracious and accommodating to earn my money and my business. After having spent the early part of '09 working in Philly. getting a cheesesteak from a different place each week, I finished my time there and went back home to Chicago. I thought I was done with the cheesesteak. How wrong I was. Just tonight I finally hit up the conclusion to my cheeseateak journey: Philly's Best. The sandwich was pretty good and filling, and service was several steps above the surly attitude you can find in Philly. But is it authentic? I don't think so. The whiz isn't real Cheese Whiz, the bread is lacking, and the onions added a lot of flavor. Too much flavor. It almost felt like I was eating a dry Italian beef smothered in cheese. But yes, it's a place I'd come back to, and I recommend it. But if you want a real cheesesteak, you'd better fill your tank and start driving. read more

Can I give 0 stars for this order? I have ordered from here many a time. Food has always been prepared correctly. Tonight....not so much. Cheese pizza. Large regular cheese steak. Fries. Wings. One of these four items was properly cooked. The cheese pizza literally fell apart when I picked it up. You know how people who can't cook say they can make spaghetti with sauce well because it can't be screwed up? That's what I thought cheese pizza was in the pizza world. Apparently not. We waited 1 hour 10 minutes for food. Shouldn't that allow time to cook crust? The cheesesteak was in bread supposedly but it felt like a wet sponge. I know there are toppings on there and it's not a clean sandwich, but this was crazy. So I call. And I was on hold for 9 minutes after I gave a brief description of my upset level. Wanna hear the guy's answer? "You added mushrooms and peppers. That's why it's soggy." I do not expect this person answering the phone at 1:00 AM to be an extreme intellectual, but I I expect to have someone not try and bs me. I am pretty sure there is not a chemical reaction when mushroom and bread meet that causes an extreme excretion of fluids. Must be a science thing I'm just not intelligent enough to understand. I was also told that since I ordered through grub hub I had to call them to complain. After the hold. Not great. Then hung up on. Grub hub is great. Super friendly and understanding people. Apparently the scientist told them (when grub hub called on my behalf) that he personally checked the order and the pizza was the only thing they could refund. I actually ordered a salad from here during my lunch. I ordered over the phone for pickup and my goodness they charge for every little thing. They didn't have blue cheese, so I wanted to replace it with feta and they tried to charge me. Um, NO! So after I called them out about that, they took off the extra charge. TLDR; I remember this being 5* in college, but after more than a decade, I have to say the roll pretty much disintegrated to the touch (not the Amoroso's I know in Philly). After a late night and even the next morning, there was nothing better than some cheese steaks from Philly's Best. They were always juicy, dripping, and satiating that inner craving for grease, meat, and cheese. Granted, I'll admit most of my faculties were probably not up to snuff when I ate them. So when I came back to Chicago for a work conference, the first stop I made (even before the hotel!) was to the Greektown outpost of Philly's Best. It was late and midweek, but there were still plenty of folks from nurses to the gentlemen in blue - all stopping by for a cheese steak. You couldn't help but notice the Philadelphia Inquirer articles adorning the walls and the pride they had in using Amoroso rolls! Cheese Fritters [$5.99] I started off with the cheese fritters. I can see these being decent hangover snacks, but I couldn't help but compare them to fried cheese curds. While the fried cheese fritters were decently buttery and nicely crisped, there was no stretch from the cheese and frankly, you couldn't really discern what was within. It came with a pat of marinara. But no matter - the fritters were just an attempt to satisfy my inner fat boy. I obviously came here for the cheese steak. Large Philly Cheese Steak [$13.24] Whiz & provolone, 'wit, garlic bread These days, I have to order mine with both whiz and provolone - 'wit and on a garlic toasted roll no less. The melange of meat, cheese, and onions was just as I remembered - incredibly juicy, inundated with fried onion flavor, and well-seasoned. This isn't clean living - the taste will be on your hands 'till the next morning. The only downfall? No idea why the whiz was put underneath the steak and thus, on top of the bread. That's a huge pet peeve of mine. In what world should the roll be breaking apart from the liquid gold? Good thing I didn't ask for delivery because that would have been a bigger mess. In retrospect now, structural integrity is something that Philly definitely has in spades. But I still have to give it to Philly's Best (in Chicago!) - there's something about their combo of meat, cheese, and onions that makes for the perfect bite. So my husband is from South Philly and is forever missing his neighborhood staple, Docs Deli. After the Eagles won the Super Bowl this year the local Chicago news did a feature on places to get Philly cheesesteaks in the area, and Philly's Best was one of the listed. Part of our decision to try this place was because they use Amoroso rolls, which is authentically a Philly thing. While the general flavor of the meat is pretty good the bun... why on earth would you bother special ordering Amoroso rolls if you don't use them right?! Our cheesesteak was SO SOGGY that it immediately fell apart. That my friend is not how you make a cheesesteak. You need to lay it on top of the meat for just a moment, like a tent. The other negatives about this place: The place is not kept very clean, there a fruit flies, the smell of constantly cooked veggies is too strong (probably needing to update the ventilation), it took a long time for our food (which would be ok if it had actually been with the wait) and their thin napkins are probably the worst way to soak up the epic amounts of grease from your sandwich. I believe this place probably was once good, or even can be good at times if the right person is working... but I'm not sure I would recommend wasting your time. read more

I won't take away a star for just the cookie since it's not a main menu item, but the cookie itself would be ONLY one star. One star because it actually is a cookie. It is described as "7 ounces of Peruvian Chocolate surrounded by a brown butter crispy edge." (Uber Eats menu, 7/12/21) That didn't sound like a chocolate chip cookie but I wanted to see it. It's about an inch thick in the middle and tastes like cookie dough. Very few chocolate chips at all. I DO NOT recommend this item. And that's saying a lot because I love most sweets. read more

I placed an online order the night before for 12:45 pm. I showed up on time and they had no record of my order, even though I had a confirmed receipt in my hand. Not a good sign. I ordered a large steak with provolone and onions along with the Philly fries, since that was their online special of the week. The food took close to ten minutes to prepare, but I could handle that because I knew it was being cooked fresh. For $10, the steak was a decent enough size. The bread was solid, though I've had better rolls for cheeseteaks. If it was actually Amoroso's, I wouldn't have known. The steak was juicy and flavorful, but the onions tasted overdone. The Philly fries, dusted on Crab-esque seasoning came out hot and had a strong spice to them. They served them with a white cheese sauce, which really helped balance the spice out. The cheese & beef were proportioned perfectly. I really enjoyed this slice especially for the price. 2nd on the list was the philly cheese steak sandwich. I requested extra onions, peppers, & mushrooms. The sandwich was put together wonderfully. There was a nice amount of grease to it. The meat was kind of bland though Service was pretty good. South Street Beef Grinder - My sister opted for this on garlic bread and seemed to enjoy it, but she did say she would get a different kind next time. Small Philly Cheese Steak with Cheesewiz & Onions - I enjoyed this, but will maybe try it on garlic bread next time. Although a bit salty, but I think it was because of the cheesewiz. Large Seasoned Fries - These were okay. We both really enjoyed the bread here. Would definitely be back to try more. Excellent philly steaks. I had one on garlic bread with provolone cheese, grilled onions and mushrooms. Meat was sliced thin; not fatty at all. Hole in the wall place; on the pricey side; but made fresh and good eating. Beware - they have a half and a whole. The half is 8". !!!!FOOD POISONING!!!! I'm not entirely sure where to start... I'm writing this review shocked from picking up what I thought would be a simple Sunday evening meal to go. Came in last night (10/23) with my boyfriend, I ordered a Caesar Salad and a Large Fry and he ordered the Buffalo Wings. We waited a while for our order to come out which seemed highly unusual, we waited longer than our 15 minute paid parking meter and I ended up having to leave to sit our car. The entire time we were there and while alone in the car I felt like something was wrong, something just didn't feel right. After waiting about 10 additional minutes my BF came out with our food, we were both a little put off with the timing. Long story short we get home and everything seemed fine and about a couple hours later the night was ruined... My boyfriend is stuck with FOOD POISONING!!!!!! He was throwing up all night last night and it's 9:30PM the day after and he still has lapses of vomiting! I should mention that the meal we picked up was our second meal of the day. I made my boyfriend breakfast, an omelette, and that was his last meal before our evening visit at Philly's Best. We are without a doubt and certain that the Buffalo Wings gave him Food Poisoning!!!! I didn't have any wings, I'm a Vegetarian and I am totally fine. My boyfriend has had food poisoning once before and describes his current conditions exact to his previous symptoms.
