The staff is generally very friendly and helpful. I have asked for a particular Nail Tech on two occasions. The first girl that did my nails was fabulous! When I asked for her they give me just anybody even though I've made an appointment. The last one that did my nails was Dan and I have to say unfortunately it was a cluster! As I was observing his methods I specifically asked that we end up with no lumps and none of the color on my cuticles. We ended up with few lumps as I kept pointing them out so he could regrind and redo, however I ended up with much on my cuticles and I was on my way to a luncheon. The girl doing my nails was nice Hispanic glued my nail on sideways I asked her to fix it but she said it isn't bad I said mam I don't want a crooked nail so I asked another employee is it was crooked she said yeah but she gone file it straight I said mam can she just take it off and fix it the guy came up and asked me why am I causing problems?? So Lastnight I went to Phillip Nail salon on Perryville at 7:35pm exact. I was so excited to get a pedicure. I never get to do this for myself and it's 40 bucks I probably shouldn't spend but I've heard such good things about this place. They took me and then Im just sitting there and the girl wasn't talking to me so I said oh I'm the last one in here, do you usually not take people this late? She said usually they stop taking people at 7:15 because it takes about 45 minutes for the service but he didn't look at the time and accidentally took you...I was like oh okay.. so I'm sitting there and the TVs off, no music, the girls not talking to me, they're cleaning up all around me and she's just rushing with my feet and doesn't even paint my toenails all the way down to my cuticle. 75% of my toes are painted and you can just see the bottom half of my nail on each toe. One of the coworkers came up and told me I had tiny toenails and I said no they just aren't fully painted...and The girl doing my toenails just shrugged her shoulders and didn't care. I pay the $40 and come home so disappointed, every time I look at my nails I'm just upset because I did not get my moneys worth and it was just a very unprofessional experience. They just shouldn't have taken Me if they stop taking people at 7:15. I decided to call this morning and I asked to talk to the owner or the manager and I got Philip himself and I started off by saying hi my name is Ashley I'm so sorry I'm not one to complain but my toenails aren't fully painted and last night when I came in I just didn't have the greatest experience and I just wanted to talk to you about it. I posted pictures of my moms nails (the red ones) and pictures of my nails (the pink ones) after only 4 days after we got them done. My experience here was a nightmare. 1. Philip is the owner of the store and he works there doing nails, I went to this location because someone recommended me to go there but specifically said do not get your nails done with him, go with another lady. I chose to do it with him since he is the owner so I assumed he knew what he was doing. 2. I made an appointment for 4 people. 2 were at 3:30 and the 2 other ones were at 4. We got there and me and my mom were helped right away but my 2 other family members had to wait until 4:50 to get their nails done. When I asked why they didn't help them right away they blamed me that I made the appointments wrong. 2. When PHILIP (the store owner) was starting my nails I showed him the picture of how I wanted my nails, he ignored the picture and just told me pick a color. 3. While Philip was starting my nails a customer came in and asked how long would it be until she can get helped, Philip said around 45-50 minutes would you like to wait? She said I'm not sure I'll come back. Then after she left he said out loud "well if I come back then I'm not sure if I'll help you" 4. Also when deciding the length I was not sure how long I wanted them, and Philip said "well you don't want them too long because long is ugly" (making me insecure about the length so I just let him cut them short) 5. After he "finished" my nails he sent me to the pedicure chair and I had said out loud is this it? I'm done with my nails? (Since how he did them was not how I showed him in the picture) and a worker there had said "well what else do you want?" And I looked at her and said this is not what I wanted. And she just ignored me. 6. After they had finished I went crying to the car because what Philip had did was not what I wanted. My boyfriend helped me go back to tell them it was not what I wanted. When we both went in my boyfriend talked to Philip and he claimed that I did not show him the picture but Philip agreed to fix my nails the next day. 7. When I went in the next day I showed him the picture of the nails I wanted (which was the same picture I showed him the day before) he said he could not do that and laughed in my face. The older lady who works there was there too and she as well laughed in my face. They complained that they couldn't do that because they would not have time and they would have started over. 8. So I stood up and said well then that's fine if you can't do that for me then I guess I will be forced to stay with these nails. Then that is when me and Philip started to argue and it got out of hand. I would explain it but I have a video to prove how he treated me. I started recording because I could not believe how I was being treated by the owner of the store! My visit there was a nightmare I was getting ready to go to Mexico and it was very embarrassing to show off my nails and I was very hurt by the way a stranger, owner, and nails person was treating me. 9. Phillips was great when Phillip was there. Now it's a hot mess. I've taken my nail business somewhere else already. My daughter schedule an appointment yesterday to get her eyebrows done. We show up at the exact appointment time and are told to not enter the building but to call from your car. We called 4 times and the phone just rang and rang but we could see someone at the desk. Finally gave up and just went in and was told it would be 10 minutes. Thirty minutes later and she's still sitting in the room waiting for someone to do her eyebrows. We will not be back. read more

My daughter, girlfriend, and I visit Phillips every 2 weeks. Our patronage has been going on now for nearly a year. Everyone we deal with at the salon is AMAZING. We almost always make appointments with Jessica, Rachelle, and Norah. If on the off chance one is already booked in advance, EVERYONE that has helped us has been too notch. If it makes a difference, my daughter gets all kinds of AMAZING designs on her acrylics courtesy (almost exclusively) of Jessica. My Girlfriend gets "the dip" on her actual nails (excuse my ignorance I'm a 40 something male) done by Rachelle, and I get a straight manicure from Norah. I've witnessed SEVERAL customers in awe of the creations that this store creates, so I'm kind of taken back by some of these negative yelp reviews. I'm begrudgingly giving it 1 star because the salon is very clean, which quite frankly is difficult to find in Rockford. Also they have a small selection of some new seasonal colors from OPI. And, they fit me in on a tight schedule. Regardless, I can't give zero stars if I wanted to anyway! I'm estimating that I've had well over 100 manicures in my life, and this had to be one of the most disappointing manicure experiences ever. The manicurist was just plain awful. She shaped one of my nails crooked and when I pointed it out to her, she acted like she didn't speak English and didn't understand (like the Anjelah Johnson nail salon comedy skit - look it up lol). Then, I wanted a lighter color on the bottom and darker on top (which I've had plenty of times at my regular nail salon in Chicago). She replied in perfect English that my request wasn't possible. I just had to laugh - I thought you couldn't speak English! She massaged my palms and wrists (no fingers, no forearms) for all of 10 seconds total (I'm not exaggerating). And she screwed up the polishing by not getting the polish even near the sides. I pointed it out to her after the first coat. Then she put on another coat and the topcoat, then went back over a couple of nails with polish! After the topcoat! What?? It looked bad and chipped within 2 days. And they charge more than most comparable salons in Rockford. Overall, I'd suggest not going here. It's a waste of money and time. read more

My favorite part about this place: you can drink wine! My friends and I came in for a girls day out and brought our own wine to enjoy during our reunion together. The staff were very fun and friendly and very accommodating. They also have their own wine there as well (but I'd recommend bringing your own). My pedicure was very nice. I used to love this place. One time my sister came in after getting what she thought was a gel manicure and wanted a fill, but the previous place had actually done acrylic and charged her for gel. They explained how to know and even gave her a discount because they felt bad that had happened to her. However, this time they gave me an acrylic full set and charged me for gel. I and I wasn't able to see what I was being charged for until after the payment went through and a tip was added. I was back home visiting my parents and was in serious need of a pedicure! My mom and I were out to lunch at Applebee's and this place came up as close and had ok reviews. I got a pedicure and my mom got a basic manicure (she's not a glam kind of lady so the only time she really goes is when I'm in town). I sat down in the chair for the pedicure and she had the water going and the massager turned on. They had the different pedicure options on the little side table on each chair. I was trying to read the difference between most, but I have some calluses, especially during flip flop season, so I went with the #4 deluxe pedicure for $33. Not bad! However, most places I've been to recently have a slightly more expensive deluxe pedi that includes a paraffin wax treatment. The lady working in my feet was very gentle and thorough. It's been a few years since I've had a pedicure in the Midwest, but one thing I noticed was that they didn't wear gloves as strictly as most places I've been. While she was working on me, the lady next to me finished her pedicure and right when she got out of the chair a young boy descended upon the chair to scrub and disinfect everything. And he was getting into some crevices! The color selection of the polish was a little disappointing. They had a lot of different similar shades of pink. I like to spice up the colors and I LOVE sparkles, but this time I went with a hot pink and am very happy with it! The lotion she used on my feet left them feeling like they needed more moisturizer a couple hours later, but I have the same thing almost everywhere I go. My mom had a nice experience getting her manicure. She has carpel tunnel and some arthritis in her fingers, so she told the girl to be gentle and she said she did a good job. She said before she knew it the girl was almost done cutting her cuticles and she felt like she just sat down! Hahaha my mom also, doesn't really like color on her nails which boggled their minds, but all in all we both had a good experience. My mom said she will come in again, but may bring her own polish. I wouldn't mind going back again. There were some people working there that look like they could probably do just about any design you want on your nails too. read more

I visited the other day and didn't have the best experience. They have 4 or so pedicures ranging from $20-$33 with their $15 manicure. No chip cost $30 or $35, can't remember. Anyway, the place was absolutely empty when I walked in (which should have been my clue). They sat me down immediately in one of the chairs. I went to go turn on the chair and couldn't get the remote to work so I asked the employee if this chair worked and she said that the one I was sitting in was broke. Mind you, there were about six or seven other chairs I could have been sat in. Pedicure was okay, not the best I ever had. The worker seemed like she was new because of the way she went about things, but said she had been working there for seven years. She was very slow and it took me about 2 hours to get a normal pedicure and manicure. They manicure and pedicure look good, but, all in all, I probably won't return. I've gone to Philips for the past two years and usually don't ever have problems except maybe once or twice. I highly recommended to my mother and sister in law to visit Philips for their day out only to learn that they had the worst experience ever. My sister in law started her pedicure 30 minutes prior to my mothers with my mothers pedicure finishing at least 10-15 minutes before my sister in law. Not only a half ass job on the pedicure but the paint job turned out to look as if a toddler had painted my mothers nails. My mother also got a gel set and the lady doing her nails smudged one, fixed it, got her own hair stuck in the nail, fixed it again, and then smudged the nail one more time refusing to fix it. She also painted the nail with a ton of space left before it reaches the skin. Total came out to 85 dollars between both pedicures and gel set with my sister in law expecting her 15 dollars in change back. The lady slams the drawer and walks away with the change. read more

I've been going here for over a year now and have always been extremely happy with my nails and the really friendly atmosphere. Phillip usually does my nails and is very detailed, making sure everything is perfect. I've only had a few nails break (I'm extremely tough on them and impressed that so few have broken) but whenever I come in to get one fixed they are really nice and take care of me ASAP, getting it fixed and making sure I'm comfortable during the process. Overall I look forward to my bi-monthly appointments where I'm always greeted with friendly faces and leave with beautiful nails. Making a review because I love this business, and I come here regularly for pedicures and no chip manicures. Phenomenal every single time. I went in today, and someone new did my pedicure (and almost my no chip). My feet were left rough and it was just a mediocre job at best. I decided to back out of the no chip because I didn't want to pay $33 for something I knew would probably not live up to what I've gotten done their before. Arrived right as the salon was opening and was seated within the first couple of minutes. It was a Saturday so there was a lot of people walking in. The women doing my nails seemed like she just wanted to get me out of the chair. She kept looking at the door and kept leaving me to either answer the phone or to go talk to other customers. At one point she even got up and left me for a couple of minutes just to grab her phone. She was extremely aggressive while filing my nails and even cut me and made me bleed. She didn't even stop the service to clean the blood she just continued on with my full set. My acrylic full set took less than 25 minutes and she left some of my nails pretty crooked. To top it all off the price of my full set with gel polish was $45 which is the most I've ever paid for a full set. I didn't get designs or anything. Definitely not going to go back to this place and would not recommend it to anyone. read more

This is the best experience in a nail salon I've had in a long time. First off, the young lady, Jessica, speaks English. No more missed communication or the feeling of being talked about in another language. Plus I have bad callus and she used my preferable choice, the razor instead of the cheese grater.
