The doctor at Southwest dismissed me saying I was seeing streaks on their lens machine and that it was as good as it was going to get with my prescription. For two years I struggled with my prescription making it hard to see. I remembered I went to see an optometrist back at El Paso Eyeworks located on Gateway w. I recalled I saw clearly after my exam, so I reached out to her. I saw the optometrist (Dr. Syndy Maynard) this past Saturday, and she listened to my concerns. Turns out, 3 doctors (ophthalmologist, all male), could not figure out that I now needed bifocals. I told these 3 ophthalmologists the exact same thing I told this optometrist. That was the change in my vision. I never had to wear bifocals before. These previous doctors could not figure out or care to figure out that hey, maybe we should take her seriously and investigate just a little further. Two years I was struggling to see! One doctor listened, cared and helped make the correct diagnosis. I am forever grateful for Dr. Maynard and strongly recommend her!

Today's experience at the Southwest Eye Institute, however, was the polar opposite of my previous experiences. My wife and I arrived at 10:20 for her 10:30 AM appointment and at 10:25 were taken into an exam room for pupil dilation.....five minutes early !! Very soon thereafter, she received a thorough eye exam from Dr. Cole, who was very thorough, pleasant, and took the time to answer all of our (numerous) questions. Bottom line: If you want the very best in eye care from a bunch of informative, polite, and ultra-competent professionals in an immaculate facility with modern equipment, run efficiently on an accurate schedule (so rare in today's overbooked medical facilities), then Southwest Eye Institute is for you. You can drive by a thousand times and never know this place exists. So how did I end up here? Well, I took my niece in for a check up. She had to get her eyes dilated so you know she will be blind trying to drive home from this place. While I wasn't a client I was able to sit here for an hour, listen and look around. So as you can expect you will see glasses available but I was deeply impressed by the set up and the jovial attitude of the workers. Everyone was in good spirits. They were laughing and telling jokes but still got their work done. The arrangements of the glasses could not have been better. This place made me want to upgrade my glasses that I rarely wear but should. My eye site is not that bad since I can read some things without squinting. What caught my eye was the Oakley set up. I do need a pair of Oakley sunglasses and a prescription pair would be even better. So this place is on my radar if I ever do decide on a check up or decide to splurge on a pair of Oakley sunglasses. Don't get me wrong there are other name brand glasses such as Ray Ban but I am more familiar woth Oakleys since I have worn them for more than a decade. So if you need a set of glasses, make sure you stop by. I think an appointment would be best since this place gets fairly busy unless you are fine waiting. My glasses needed to be fixed and I asked about pricing to replace a screw on my frames. Dr. Calderon was very helpful and repaired my frames and even threw in a vision test! I was amazed to be able to see clearly he put on a pair of test frames on my face and made me look around, stand up and walk around to get the feel of the prescription. Never I'm my whole entire life have I felt like I was in control of my vision till now. Dr. Calderon is very warm and welcoming into his establishment, I truly felt like I was important to him. Well long story short, I walked out of his office with my frames fixed, a FREE vision examination and a pair of contact lenses that made me see clearly. I have never had a bad prescription. In fact, he always hits my prescription right on the dot. My family went on a 30 day road trip and on the second night I scratched up my glasses' lens really bad. Although we stayed a couple of days in a big city, long enough to order replacements, I just couldn't. I knew that whoever I went to would not be able to prescribe me the correct prescription. As far as contact lens and glasses frames, he always has the latest contact lens and his glasses frames are the latest styles. And his staff all know who I am -- that personal touch really makes a difference. As far as price, you get what you pay for! However, he is not that expensive and his prices are competitive. Overall, I can't imagine going anywhere else.
