I had to have two additional surgeries to correct it, and while it's much better, it will never be good, it still swells and hurts if I walk a lot, etc. Even getting a pedicure hurts that toe. It caused me to be off my feet for three months right after the surgery because it was so incredibly painful. And now the bone spur that's on the little toe is hurting again because he did such poor job grinding it down, and I know this because the foot surgeon who fixed the 4th toe showed me the X-ray. In addition to that, he is very arrogant about his abilities as a doctor, which of course doesn't add up with my experience. Steer clear of this guy.

Dr. Siram is an outstanding orthopedic surgeon. During my initial consultation he reviewed my…read moremedical records and discussed treatment options. His imaging diagnosis convinced me of the importance to move forward with hip replacement surgery. Summit Orthopedics works closely with Sibley Hospital so I was able to schedule a Monday morning surgery and overnight stay at the hospital. The Nurse Navigator Supervisor at Sibley provided information on Pre-Op procedures and an appointment with Sarah, Summit's Nurse Practitioner, involved a review of the surgical procedures and the list of medications with a review of frequency. Dr. Siram brought together a great surgical team comprised of the Sibley Hospital Orthopedic doctors and nursing staff and an anaesthesiologist. The first nurse assigned to my post-Op care placed top priority on Pain Control and coordinated a meeting with In-House PT/OT Team to review and practice the Post-Operative exercises. I completed 2 weeks of In-Home physical therapy with Potomac Home Health Care, affiliated with Johns Hopkins and Sibley. The PT specialist was exceptional: checked vitals; reviewed my medications; provided a home exercise plan that helped me to begin walking with and without a cane, before starting In Office Post-Op PT. I would strongly recommend the Dr. Siram-Sibley Orthopedic Team.

Every single time, he's gone above and beyond. His bedside manner is outstanding--he listens, explains things clearly, and genuinely cares about his patients. It's rare to find a doctor who not only has such deep expertise but also clearly loves what he does. I have never waited more than 10 minutes to see him (kudos to his staff for running a well organized office and schedule for this busy doctor). While we don't enjoy the injuries we get on our own, we feel incredibly grateful to have found Dr. Pandarinath to treat them.

He said it was nothing and prescribed an anti-inflammatory and rest. I took about a month off before I started training again, with no issues. I was training for the Marine Corps Marathon, got up to 15 miles, headed out for my 18 mile run and my knee gave out completely. I went back to see the doctor and he diagnosed me with tendinitis, prescribed PT and rest. I took 6 MONTHS off. I spent those 6 months in PT, following orders, doing exercises, etc. I saw him during a 3 month check up and he said I was making progress. When I was discharged from PT, I got the ok to start running again. For 3 months, I gradually built my running back up and got the ok to run a Half Marathon...the Nike Women's Half. At Mile 8, my knee gave out. I went to see a different doctor (Dr. Annunziata). He called for an MRI (something Dr. Pandarinath had never done) and diagnosed me with IT Band Syndrome...which has the complete opposite symptoms of tendinitis. A runner with a knee injury and you don't take an MRI? Even I questioned that. So, now it's May, I'm almost a year out from an injury that typically has a 6-8 week recovery time, and I'm just now starting to recover because of his misdiagnosis. Oh, and I would say his wait times were decent...except for that one time I waited for 90 minutes in his office and he never showed up.

Dr. Bobrow was the fourth "top" DC total-knee-replacement surgeons I interviewed in January of this…read moreyear. He was the only of the four that took seriously my fears based on my significant pre-existent condition (beside my deeply arthritic right knee: significant atrophy of all my right leg muscles stemming complications from the removal from the back of my right thigh of a 10 pound, benign tumor when I was 13. Only Dr. Bobrow of the four candidate surgeons had me disrobe to my briefs, and actually examined my entire right leg, including touching it (!). He then told me in detail how my TKR would be somewhat more complicated than usual, and ordered a few tests (e.g., leg/blood circulation) to ensure that my leg was "up to" the surgery. Dr. Bobrow and his excellent team did a great job. My real work began the day after surgery, when the meds wore off, and I was immediately thrust into intense (and initially (three weeks) quite painful) PT, conducted by the experts at ED&A Therapy, located conveniently next door to Dr. B' offices at Summit Orthopedics. By week 4, I was walking without assistance -- but the real benefit was that I awoke each morning to the repeated good news of there being absolutely no pain in my right knee. I'm now 3 months plus, I am walking strong and even, and my atrophied right leg muscles have returned, though I still have a long ways to go! I feel every day something I haven't felt in many years: strong and completely symmetrical. I won't dwell on the pain, frustrations, and hard emotions I experienced in the early weeks -- for a surgery as serious as this, these really have to be expected. The team ensures you have access throughout your recovery to the medication needed to manage your physical pain. Dr. B's office staff is competent, cordial and helpful -- but one must expect that he/she will experience some hiccups with processing and paperwork, and some extended waiting periods beyond the promised appointment time. But this is truly minor stuff. Though he has been doing TKRs and other procedures for some time, Dr. Bobrow comes across as excited with and enthused about his work. Being able to vanquish the constant, often searing pain that comes with an arthritic knee -- now, that's a great talent! I give Dr. Bobrow and his team my highest recommendation for TKR.

It seems that Dr. B feels his job is done when the incision is stitched. He departed on vacation shortly after performing the operation and never reached out to determine how my mom was doing (not terribly well). I would urge anyone researching surgeons to look closely at the follow-up regimen, a vital but often inferior piece of American medicine.

First, the nurses wrapped my arms so tight after liposuction that the very next day at my post op appointment when the surgeon removed the bandages from my upper arms they were burned, bruised and puss filled. I am so devastated because not only are my arms healing from plastic surgery, but I have scars on both of my upper arms that will scab over and leave marks. The photos attached are two weeks out from my post op, so imagine what they looked like on the post op day. Next, I went back and forth with the billing department on a charge that is not to be billed to my card (as I emphatically stated) and when the manager/supervisor called me (her name was Catherine, Christine, Chrissy or something with a "C"), she basically told me that she was going to charge my card regardless of me telling her not to charge the fee. Unfortunately, my experiences with many physicians/specialists in the past have not been all that great because I got the sense that they were trying to rush me through the appointment. Her pre-surgical stenosis pain is non-existent. She is starting to drive again and has regained a great deal of her agility and confidence. Dr. Amini is clearly gifted and highly trained, as are many neuro-surgeons in the Medstar system. However, his most salient asset is his intentional, patient-oriented approach, and determination to treat his patients like he would want his family to be treated. As my mother said to him, "You restored my hope." Dr. Amini is an answer to our prayers and a primary reason why she is restarting a favorite pastime of walking 10,000 steps a day.
