When I went to Rafael Floors and spoke with Robert Gomez, I was really impressed with his knowledge about flooring and carpeting. It was obvious he had decades of experience. I told him what I was looking for, and he answered a bunch of questions I had about carpet, quality, and the selection. I went home with several samples to check out how they looked in the different light throughout the day. After looking at the samples in my place for a week, I found the perfect carpet and color I wanted. Robert came over for measurements and an estimate. Everything had gone smoothly and professional to this point where in other places there were flags that would stop me cold, and I would stop the process and move on. The whole selection and purchase process with Robert went smoothly, and they were ready to install the carpet before I was because I had some painting that needed to be done, and I had to delay them several times. When I was finally ready, Juan and Douglas arrived on time to install the carpet. It was a two-day process, and I was really impressed how methodical they were. It was like they were putting together a puzzle they were really familiar with and each part was being sized and put in its place. I later found out that Rafael Floors has a lengthy training process for their installers that takes years. It starts with a 5-year apprentice program where they work under a journeyman installer before they can go out to install a carpet. Juan described to me what a momentous and serious occasion it was after 5 years to finally have a project of his own and being responsible for all the materials and making the customer happy. They did a perfect job and I was one happy customer. That was 3 months ago and I wanted to be sure that others would see my review like I saw others' so they would know what I know about Rafael Floors. Tom's did the floors in my unit a few weeks ago. Here are my thoughts:…read more Pros: - Communication: Generally very prompt communication. I wish I got more updates during construction but they sent them whenever I asked. I liked that they were very contentious about talking with my neighbor when their van was blocking a little bit of their driveway--a lot of contractors wouldn't bother. I also had another neighbor who was causing some issues and they kept me in the loop, which I appreciated. - Price: I talked to several contractors and their price was pretty reasonable--not the lowest nor the highest, more in the middle. Cons: - After construction, I noticed some damage on parts that were supposed to be protected. They were minor damages, but annoying. The most noticeable one was a dent on my TV, which left a white dot that I see every time I turn on my TV, which sucks. - In terms of details, I noticed that there were some dings in pretty noticeable parts of the wood. I don't know if it was the crew or the wood came like that, but when I was testing a wood sample before purchasing, I hit the wood with a hammer and it didn't leave a mark, so it would take a lot of force to leave a dent like the one pictured. Kinda disappointing because the dent is smack in the middle of a high traffic area. Some last notes: - David came by to do a final walk through and helped me move some of the heavier furniture back. It didn't bother me but if you're expecting furniture to be put back the way it was originally, you'll want to manage your expectations. - You should definitely hire painters and cleaners after the construction--I didn't think the walls were going to be as scuffed up as they were. And everything will be superrrr dusty, even if it's covered. - When I expressed concern about not all baseboards being replaced, which I thought was the scope of work, he explained that he told his crew to use existing baseboards when possible. He said he did this to save me some cost and offered me $150 to cover the savings. I generally feel positive about this, although if I hadn't mentioned it I don't think it would've come up, so take that for what it's worth.

I then called the next day and the man on the phone seemed bothered by my call. When I inquired about prices for 'Naturally Aged' flooring he told me he didn't know. So I asked if he could please call the vendor and he said yes but whatever the price was, expect it to increase. Why have items on display that you don't want to sell? Why be a salesperson if you don't like helping people? They won't be getting my business.

The install techs were friendly and super professional and provided me with a high level of customer service throughout the install process. Very bad experience…read more Floortex sent a very unprofessional installer who did a poor job and took a very long time. The Floortex salesman refused to correct the poor installation, and complained loudly and rudely that he was losing money on the deal. He offered to rip out the carpet and let me forfeit my deposit as his only remedy. The carpet was not set flush against the walls, and the pattern did not match where the seams were sewn together. The installer, who was in very poor health, took over twelve hours to complete a very small bedroom and short hallway. Now I'm stuck with expensive, poorly installed carpet and an an angry carpet salesman.

Ruben made helpful suggestions as far as what to choose, especially the right type of carpet padding. After one year later, multiple calls and few follow ups, when I finally got a chance to talk to him over the phone, he said he never said it's going to be free! I am open with paying reasonable fees given I think it's a special request. Quoted from Art , even it's a small job it still cost about 200 USD market rate just to get someone. I am ok with the amount and just need to find someone to get the job done. The touch up is a small job no one is willing to take. In order to get Art coming back for an empty promise, He quoted 300-400 USD with an indefinite of time of completion and 1000 usd for a special trip! That said he will be Unreasonably Expensive for any after sales care. Evaluate at your own risk before signing the contract! I also have to send them multiple emails just to request a prove of payment for tax purpose. The beautiful garage is not beautiful at all with my case. A very difficult communication!
