Let me start by saying I am an architect and my wife is an interior designer so we have high standards for excellence. Phil came and gave me an honest and helpful assessment of my existing floors. Phil and Rudy helped me receive the flooring which I had ordered. They were flexible with the delivery person's schedule. The delivery person would only drop a pallet at the top of the hill where I live and Rudy brought 28 bundles in two at a time. This was three weeks prior to the install mind you! Phil to the rescue! I cannot speak highly enough about him. He fixed a job that another guy left unfinished and refused to complete. Phil was responsive and super kind throughout the entire process. Phil just completed a major repair and total refinishing of a 90 year old salvaged Douglas Fir floor in our house. A portion of it had been of necessity torn up during recent foundation repair work. I had really loved the old wood, and hoped to restore it for years. Well, Phil was absolutely the best. A relatively small job, our maple kitchen floor had nicks and scratches, which I'd tried - inexpertly- to repair over many years. Phil came to estimate the job, and he didn't believe that we needed a complete refinishing of the floor and recommended abrasion and a water seal. He said that the job would take a day and would only need a day to cure! Phil did the work himself, and I was thrilled with the results - a uniform coating on the floor and the finish was beautiful. Phil is a great guy, and fast at floor installs. Due to his speed his quality of craftsmanship is very poor. He will install flooring that he makes mistakes on cuts just to get the job finished. I had him do an expensive wide plank floor install and wake up every morning to look at crappy installed planks. Burns me up daily. I wish I had hired someone else. I will need to tear out all of the poorly installed pieces and reinstall them. To get to them I will need to pull out large sections of the floor. Disclosure - I have known Phil for upwards of 15 years, since before he started his floor finishing business. I have had Phil refinish all of the floors in a previous home, and upon purchasing a new home that needed a lot of hardwood flooring help he was the first person that came to mind. Our job consisted of a mix of refinishing existing mixed 2" strip oak and installing new 2" strip oak and replacing 2 stairways of treads with solid oak. Phil arrived to quote as promised and did his walk thru to get measurements. He quickly produced a reasonable quote which I accepted thru an application. Super professional and easy! We agreed on a start date, and he arrived as promised to drop the wood off to acclimate, and got started a few days later. We found after he got going that the existing treads were not salvageable and we agreed on an amendment to the quote to get them replaced with oak. The treads were covered with carpet when he started so we had no idea until this came up. He was super clear about this up front so it wasn't a surprise. The work went on as planned and he finished up before our move in date! I would highly recommend Phil for both refinishing and new wood flooring installation. He is definitely a pro. read more
