Phil and sons is my go-to tree service. Charlie is a pleasure to work with and his guys are professional and do an incredible job. They pruned up a large crete Myrtle for me and removed a wysteria that was near a lot of pipes. They took down my bulbs to protect them and even screwed them back in after. read more

Really standout company. Phil (the father) deals with the backend office scheduling and paperwork, while his son, Alex, spearheads the on-site jobs. Alex is awesome - friendly, knowledgeable, patient and kind. Takes the time to walk through everything, explain how things will be done and projected timelines, as well as very transparent, competitive and upfront pricing. I used Phil & Sons to remove a HUGE Cedar tree (I'm talking 13ft base circumference and over 50ft tall AFTER over half of it had already been cut down by the Army Corps of Engineers) that remained on our burned-down property after the Eaton Canyon Fires. We needed to clear the site in preparation for new construction. The process was smooth, and Alex even sent me photos after the job had been completed as I was out-of-town. Superb company that initially came at very high recommendation to me (from my Altadena community as well as the local company Angel City Lumber), and now I highly recommend them to you. read more

My uncle P recommended them to me. He's picky, but more importantly owned his own landscaping business and has a farm so he knows good work. There's a lot of work to do on the property, so I had several quotes and decided to take care of the first grouping of trees. The guys c were fun to watch-their climbing skills-amazing. The care given towards my property throughout the process, including the communication with my neighbor (shared driveway) was perfect and as I figure out what I want to do with the property I will definitely use them to do more work. Definitely a good value for the expertise and care. read more

Alex and team (from Phil & Sons) did an AMAZING job removing a huge coastal live oak (45" dia trunk, probably 80' high) that had sadly died in my backyard. Their communication in advance was amazing and lighting fast, they showed up right when they said they would, they were very safe (which is extremely valuable in SO many ways), clean, efficient, professional, friendly, patient with all my questions, etc. Its kind of difficult to imagine a better experience, particularly as this was a rather sad departure of such a large feature of our back yard. I wish I had found them sooner as my go-to tree company, These guys are spectacular!! read more

Everything went perfectly. They removed a dead tree and trimmed two others. The crew was very skilled, worked efficiently as a team, and completed the work quickly. All cuttings and debris were carefully removed. Victor, the foreman, was helpful and kind. Last, but not least, it was a great value because the cost for this excellent work and service was on par or lower than others I checked. read more

We just recently had some trees thinned out by Phil & sons company. We have used them before. They are by far one of the best companies. All of the workers are so respectful of the property. They show up on time, they do their work and they clean up after themselves. I would highly recommend them to anybody that is looking for qualified tree service. Their pricing is very fair. Responsive, careful, expert tree care. Charlie is great to work with and the crew did an excellent job. Thank you! Highly recommend.

Phil and Sons are highly professional and skilled. Our new home is surrounded by beautiful but overgrown trees which is a fire concern in our area. Phil came out, told us what was needed and how much it would cost. A week or so later his crew showed up and did the work as promised for the amount estimated. The trees were expertly thinned and "lifted" - not butchered or pollarded like the utility tree trimmers do. Their price was more than reasonable for the expert work they do. We highly recommend Phil and Sons. read more

This was the second time we've had Phil & Sons do our tree service, after getting a few bids for the jobs; today removing 2 volunteer fan palms which shot up over last winter's rains, and last year trimming our lovely, old Deodara Cedar & sycamore trees. The crew is on-time, communicate well, respectful of property and do a super job. They're number is now firmly in my contacts. read more

WOW the guys did such a great job today! We had 3 huge trees and they not only got it all out, they cleaned up all the leaves! Charlie was the wonderful person we arranged everything with, and he was just so pleasant. He came and gave us an estimate and gave us such fair pricing. They were professional and were on time, as well as went beyond the service. We HIGHLY recommend Phil & Sons and would hire them again for future services! Thank you guys! read more

This is the second time we used Phil and Sons Tree Service for our pruning. I cannot recommend them highly enough. They are truly OUTSTANDING. We have a number of decent sized trees in our yard and they handle each tree as if were the only one. Each tree is cut back and shaped perfectly -- and then they all grow in beautifully in the Spring. Phil's crew is just amazing -- so kind and professional. Clean-up was great as well. read more

Trimmed a huge Jacaranda tree. Excellent job with style and post cleanup. Price was quite reasonable. Personable supervisor. Thank you Phil & Sons read more

Very happy with the service I received from Phil and Sons. Phil was easy to communicate with and was able to come by quite quickly after a very large tree of mine started dropping large branches on my and my neighbor's property. I had one tree removed completely and one trimmed. These trees were huge and very heavy with berries/fruit. They got it all done in less than a day with excellent clean up and a fair price. I came home from work and it was done! I was so grateful for their prompt help in a sticky situation. I would definitely use them again. Thank you Phil and crew! read more

This company came to my rescue! My cockatoo got out and flew into a tree. She was at the very tallest height of the tree about 60 feet up. None of my ideas were fruitful. Until I reached out to Phil. He had his team come out in a bucket lift and they were able to get my bird out of the tree. After eight hours of me staring at the tree and her not moving I did not think we were going to be so fortunate. The guys made multiple attempts at even got out climbing equipment. They didn't give up and their tenacity made me feel hopeful read more

Before you call or hire anyone else, call these guys! I had very messy, overgrown oak trees in my yard which sits on a steep hill. I called numerous other companies only to get ridiculously expensive quotes or the other companies just flaked out. However, Phil and Sons was very responsive to my call, came right over at our appt time, and gave me a very reasonable quote. The owner Felipe and his crew were very nice, respectful, communicative, and did an AMAZING job! My trees look amazing and I am so pleased with their work. We have four large trees on our property that have grown rapidly over the past 20 years. We have had all of them trimmed annually, using three different tree services. I always asked them not to over - trim them but they always did. The problem is that it causes the trees to grow too aggressively. So, this year we decided to call Phil and Sons, on the advice of a certified Arborist. As it turns out, the owner, Phil, is also a certified arborist. He came out to give us an estimate and I could immediately tell during our conversation that he completely understood what we wanted. He gave me a detailed description of how each tree would be handled. The crew of five guys spent a lot more time than the previous ones we had used and it became obvious that they knew exactly what they were doing. Now, all four trees look great and the crew did a great job cleaning up. The cost was competitive, as well. We're already looking forward to calling Phil for next year's trimming! read more

Absolutely amazing service and prices. Phil's team is so capable because they have lots of resources - manpower and access to wholesale plants. The prices are reasonable and they are so fast! Our situation was terrible because our city is one of those places that will jail you if you cut down a tree but two of our trees died. Phil was able to work with them and us to get the proper permits - lots of communication and working together. Trust Phil & Sons for your major arbor needs - trimming, cutting, and replanting and more. read more

I was referred to him by another tree service. I'm so grateful to have been introduced to this fantastic service. I initially thought Phil's quote was quite high. Especially since the other service I used was substantially lower. And, even though I was splitting the cost with my neighbor Jeana G.'s family (see her review). BUT once the job was done, I was amazed at what an excellent job they did. My tree has NEVER been trimmed so well. It was an all-day job and they were very personable, professional and skilled. Cleanup after the fact was great. The only casualty was the clothes line we had up. Unfortunately, we don't have the skill to replace it...and after such a great job, I didn't want to complain. But we REALLY miss the clothes line. We used it a LOT during Sumner months. (Took one star away for that.) read more

We hired Phil & Sons to prune a heritage oak in our backyard that has been struggling. We received great advice about how to care for the tree, and the work looked great. Cleanup was also good. I've used Phil to keep my huge Stone Pine trimmed and healthy for the last 2 years. We have useed phil&sons tree services twice already in the last few years to trim our trees. Phil is very knowledgeable and friendly. This is the first time we have worked with Phil & Sons. We have had at least 2 other tree trimmers work in our yard. Phil & Sons is the best due to their equipment, courtesy, and large team. Jose and Efrain exhibit excellent leadership and technical skills, ensuring an organized group of men who execute their duties with precision. Our property has challenges they worked with effortlessly. For example, we have chickens, none of whom were lost or hurt. The coop was left intact even though some of the tallest trees were directly above it. No limbs fell on it, nor into our fish pond, yet another inconvenience for them. Jose kept us informed every step of the way, so there were no surprises. The entire team was kind and polite. read more

Really-again. Your men are artists. It was a facelift for this tree-YEARS were cut away, and the exceptional regard for the natural contours of this old oak, and bringing beauty, balance, and economy (I can see what needs working on-wires, roof and such ), are fantastic.. Thanks for a job well done-I'm putting this in Yelp read more

We have an oak tree that belongs to our neighbor but the bulk of the growth hangs on our property. We recently had a new lawn placed in our backyard and the tree was preventing it from getting enough sun. Our neighbor agreed to split the cost to trim the tree. Phil & Sons came to trim the tree and both my neighbor and I agreed the tree has never been trimmed as well by any other company. In addition, there was a portion of our lawn that was damaged by the covering placed on it and it was replaced by Phil & Sons at no cost to us, no questions asked. Thank you Felipe for the excellent trim on the oak tree and your quick response and replacement of the damaged lawn. We highly recommend Phil & Sons! read more

I had a very heavy, tall city tree removed from in front of my house because it was dead and I feared it might fall before the city got around to removing it. I called around and Phil gave me an excellent price. The 3 men on the team were highly skilled. It was like watching a Cirque Soleil high wire act as they expertly sawed the branches in the exact places that would cause them to fall safely into a rather small designated space between the sidewalk and the street. They worked expertly and swiftly and when they had finished the entire area was cleaned and all traces of a tree ever having been there were gone. As you can see; I am giving them 5 stars, the highest recommendation possible! read more

I hired Phil and Sons after being referred to them by my landscaper. I had the same service done by someone else about 4 years ago and Phil did double the work for 25% less money. I'm sure he gave me a slight break for the referral but all that aside I'm super happy. He is licensed and insured so that's definitely a plus. And these other two talking about vehicle damage sound like they're in cahoots to me. read more

We recently hired Phil and Sons to shape and prune some very neglected fruit trees (citrus, olive, stone fruit). They were responsive and prompt and arrived at the agreed upon time for both the estimate and the job itself. We have several large ash trees also on our property and will definitely be returning to Phil & Sons the next time they need a trim. read more

We are renovating our house in LA and have worked with a lot of contractors, etc. Our experience with Phil & Sons Tree Service has been one of our most positive experiences to date. Phil is a knowledgeable arborist and is very professional and their prices are extremely fair (and lower than the other quotes we got). Phil's team did a great job with a large tree we have in the backyard and with removing a huge tree trunk in the front yard. I look forward to hiring them again in the future and highly recommend them. Thank for your great work, Phil and team! read more

Phil and sons did a great job with our trees at a good price. We got a quote from another company that was almost two times more than Phil's. Phil came recommended to us by a certified arborist so we trusted him. They removed a dead sycamore and ground down and removed the trunk. They trimmed another sycamore that was getting top heavy and removed one more sycamore branch that was interfering with electrical wires. When we have the funds, we will use them to install a bracing pole for our oak tree that's leaning a bit. The guys were nice and efficient and got the job done in a timely manner. I totally recommend them. read more

Fair price, in time, cleaned up very well. I would definitely use Phil and Sons again.

After all these storms, I got worried about several tall 100+ foot pine and cedar trees in the front yard. They hadn't been trimmed in quite sometime. Phil is a certified arborist so it was good to hear that there were no issues other than necessary trimming needed to "thin" and correct growth for safety and proper growth. His team arrived on time, worked steadily throughout the day -- and there was so much cut that as the day wore on, more and more workers showed-up to clear, shred, and finish in only 1 day -- amazing! They did an excellent job for an excellent price (no adjustments after the estimate either). I highly recommend his service - they are honest and hard working! read more

I hate to be so late in reviewing, but I'm finally getting a chance to post. These guys were fantastic! We were in search of a new certified arborist to remove a huge dying very old deodar cedar (we have two in our front yard). We needed to be sure they were certified, and they provided paperwork upon request. They took care of removing the entire tree (including stump removal), plus trimming the other huge deodar cedar and a couple other trees for a decent price (yes, it was expensive but their pricing was better than we had anticipated). I was sad to see the tree go (thanks, drought), but they did such a lovely job and the ground up mulch smells terrific. We will definitely use them again for tree maintenance! read more

Phil was recommended to me by another arborist I'd used in the past. I needed a service that my guy didn't do, having a tree cabeled. Phil answered the phone first try and came out the next day to give an estimate. While he was there, I showed him another job I needed handling-a large Monterey pine that was leaning dangerously needed to be removed. I had already done a little shopping around, so I knew his bid was good. We agreed on the spot and scheduled the removal for the next day. His crew came the first day and trimmed and cabeled my sagging Meleluca tree, it now looks great, and is stable for a lifetime (I hope!) His crew of 6 guys came out the following day and made unbelievably fast work of taking down the 50 foot tall Monterey pine. They took care not to damage any of the many surrounding trees, hauled away all the downed wood and cleaned up the area all the way down to blowing away the sawdust! I could not be happier with their professionalism and quality of service. I now have a new go-to-arborist when I need one! read more
