The front portion houses the gift shop with ice cream (Chapman's) & bake shop counter and the tearoom is in the back section of the building. This is a seasonal business open May-October, Wed-Sat 11am-4pm. Recently, I stopped by Harry Ten Shilling for afternoon tea on my road trip. I headed to the back (watch your step) into the quaint tearoom which has table seating with comfortable pillow seats and wooden chairs and counter seating with high wooden chairs. For food, they offer salads, soup du jour, baked French onion soup, quiche, chicken pot pie, mac n' cheese, fish & chips, specials (steak frites) and baked goods. A decent selection of black teas, green & rooibos, and herbal tisanes is offered. Tea time selections served with an individual pot of tea, starting at $13 pp. I decided on the Soup & Cream Tea ($16) soup du jour served with two scones, jam & devon cream. The pot of hot tea (I chose Rhubarb Cream) brought out first, which was a much needed hot caffeinated drink, especially after driving for a couple hours. The tray of food arrived 10 minutes afterwards, which had a hot bowl of party vegetable noodle soup (healthy and very good), 2 firm scones (including blueberry), fresh fruit & berries, cherry, cream and raspberry jam. The food was delicious and scones were firm, not too crumbly, and not too sweet tasting. After I finished my food and small pot of hot tea, I was given the bill, which came out to $18.08 before tip. The service was adequate and prompt.

The service is amazing and you get a seating time of 90 minutes to enjoy your tea set. They have a three tier tea stand that comes packed with scones, clotted cream and jam, sandwiches and mini dessert bites. I absolutely LOVE their scones. And the clotted cream and jam supplied by Devon cream company is delicious. I am not a jam fan but the vanilla berry jam is So good! They have a little under 300 varieties of tea and you can actually choose your tea after smelling it from the glass container too. It was such an experience! I ended up purchasing a few small tea packets to bring home as well so ended up trying four varieties of tea.

Hot water was added to our teas, and otherwise we were left to talk amongst ourselves. They served clotted cream, and a choice of jam with their scones. Had a mixed berry jam which was a good amount of tart and sweetness. Scones were excellent, one of the best I've had so far; which admittedly is not a lot. The sandwiches were okay, filling good, but bread a bit stale. The sweets were a small selection of 4 desserts and berries on the side. There was a lot of food for the 'White House Tea' set, well worth the money and the experience. Nice to try, but a bit far to come back again. Will definitely recommend to someone in the area!

Great location and customer service…read more Scones: Decent. A little sweet (which I like), served with whipped cream and strawberry jam. Fruit: The fruit was the best part of all our meals here. It was so fresh and sweet, which I thought would be difficult to find outside of California! I also enjoyed it with cottage cheese, which is not so common at breakfast spots in California unfortunately. Tea: The tea is enjoyable but pretty average when compared to bougier tea spots like The Bruce in Stratford. It's not clear how long I should let it steep for for optimal flavor. I preferred the Winter Dream green tea, which was warm and cozy, slightly sweet. I also preferred the McCrae over the Boathouse blend. The Boathouse blend was a little basic for me, and the McCrae had a slight sweetness that I enjoyed. High Tea: Average - a good price and pleasant experience, especially if the weather is nice enough to eat outside (and catch a bald eagle flying by!). My favorite dessert was the carrot cake cupcake. Ice Cream: Yes, ice cream and tea is definitely a good idea! The banana cream pie tastes like your classic Runts banana flavor (the original banana that got wiped out) and the black cherry has plenty of big cherry pieces. Great servings, and we loved that they served them in reusable bowls instead of disposable ones. Would definitely come again!

If you follow the route, it leads to another bigger parking lot. Parking is free! Reservations are highly recommended. My guest and I made a reservation for two for 1:30pm. It was very busy when we walked in. We got a table right by the door. There were artwork and paintings hung all around the cafe - it was cute. I ordered an afternoon tea set, as well as an extra breakfast burrito for my guest and I to share. There is a tea menu to look at all the various options they have. It was nice to see that they had many options to choose. Our set came with mini sandwiches, scones and dessert and fruits. I would definitely come back to visit - it would be nice to come in the summer and book a table out on their patio.

FOOD: We had come here on a Tuesday afternoon at around…read more12:00 pm for lunch. When we had first sat down, we were told that all guests that were booked for that day were to receive the same type of lunch, which was the Informal Social Tea (Light), which came out to $19.95 per person. We were first given a plate of fruit, which included cut-up pears, cherries, and watermelon pieces. We did find the fruit to be very fresh, and enjoyed the presentation of it, which was nicely-situated on the small dish that was given to us. Next, we were given a dish of six scones, which we thought was quite generous as there were only two of us; a side dish included the devonshire cream and jam for the scones. We noticed that the scones were a bit hard, which tasted like they may have been left in the oven a bit too long as they were dark on the bottom. The taste of them was good though, they tasted fresh and appetizing, with sprinkled icing sugar on the top to sweeten the taste. Afterwards, we were given our tea, which was an oolong flavour, tasting absolutely divine! We loved how fresh the tea was, and how wonderful it went with our meal, such a great flavour. Along with the tea, we were given a small plate of strawberries for my little one that was with us, which we thought was such a nice thought from Judy (the owner). We also received a small dish of vegetables (cauliflower, pickles, carrots and peppers), which were based in a type of vinaigrette dressing. We weren't too keen on this option as we found it to be high on the vinegar-side, but appreciated the effort. The sandwiches were next, and were very appetizing to look at once they reached our table. We had three different types; one was egg salad on a yellow bread that was rolled into pinwheels, another was smoked-beef on toasted rye, and the last was a type of cold-cut with mustard on a rolled-up flatbread. In all honesty, all of the sandwiches were really well-done, with a lot of flavour in each of them. However, the best were the egg salad, which were perfectly rolled, with just the right amount of spice in them, and the smoked-beef on rye, which was grilled to perfection, and piping-hot (temperature-wise). We enjoyed the smoked-beef so much that we asked for more, and was willing to pay for them, but Judy gave them to us for free! Lastly, we received the plate of sweets, which included chocolate cupcakes, marzipan slices, cheesecake squares, ginger slices, and an almond cookie. Judy mentioned how each of these desserts were homemade, and it showed; they each tasted impeccable, boasting a savoury taste that stayed in our mouths long after we left. She was a wonderful baker, and we appreciated the efforts in her desserts! ATMOSPHERE: This tea room was situated on a quiet street in Paris, with ornate looking columns at the front of the home, and a historical feel that boasted a home from the Victorian-Era. We loved the little gate at the front of the home which welcomed us to the entrance, along with the picturesque landscaping in the front. The home itself was absolutely beautiful, with two large rooms at the front for diners, and a sunroom at the back overlooking the water, which is where we were situated. We loved the décor of the home, which had older pictures on the wall, and also the tables and chairs, which were cozy yet traditional. This truly felt like a home that was built in the Victorian-Era, which made us feel that we were dining at that time. It was also peaceful and quiet, which was what we were looking for when we attended. As we were seated near the kitchen, we did hear some extra noise from there however, not too much, only from time-to-time. SERVICE: We were served by Judy, who is the owner of the home and the tea room. She was wearing a beautiful costume reminiscent of the 1850s, which was a long skirt, long-sleeved blouse, and a wonderful brooch at the nape of her neck. We loved how her outfit made us feel even more like we were in the time-period mentioned. Judy was very attentive during our visit, even giving my son some toys to play with in-order to keep him occupied during our lunch. She came over to refill our teapots when needed, and even made us extra sandwiches without charging us. We loved how friendly she was, and would surely want to see her again. COST: Informal Social Tea (Light): $19.95/Each = $39.90 WOULD YOU RETURN? Without a doubt! We really enjoyed our time here, and felt that Judy pulled all of the stops to make sure we had a lunch we would never forget!
