A whole decade and some change later I'm still getting my hair done by Liz! In college I finally decided to go for short hair and Liz was the only person I trusted to make that transition with. In fact I was one of her first male clients and I called myself her 'lab rat' as she experimented with different clippers and such so she could expand her talents further than what she already had. If you're looking for a stylist who actually listens and creates what you want with your hair, Liz is the person to see. She's absolutely thriving in her new studio and listens to exactly what her clients ask. Even other stylists pop in her studio to check in and ask for advice every time I'm there. Liz is a masterpiece!

Let me start by saying this is not a reflection of the ladies personalities because they are sweet; however, I don't feel they are staying up to date on new styling trends etc. I went for color and extensions. My hair had to be lifted which is fine but the end result had to be toned down which is also fine but when it was done I still had orange "hot roots". I was so discouraged I decided to just leave it and move on to the extensions. Again, the stylist was different for this and also nice. However, again her technique was subpar. Two days later here I am getting it redone at a different salon because they are already extremely loose. Yesterday, I had to go to a different salon to get the color fixed. I paid for the original services to include tips for both ladies but left very sad. So, if you're going for traditional not too complicated services or old school then they are fine; otherwise, I would say no. Very nice fun people but lacking in skills.

Here's why: The salon is run by a dynamic duo husband/wife team. Anyone who is or has been married knows it takes a special kind of person to work with your spouse. I'm sure it is a challenge for them but those challenges are the very impetus to the production of high quality output. The salon is run like a well-oiled machine. They are constantly in communication with one another, which produces great organization and warm/courteous customer service. It's not a high traffic salon so you will be one of three people there at most, which is great because that allows them to really spend time on you and pay attention to details. They've been practicing hair for over 30 years so aside from the business aspect, they are extremely talented at what they do. Grace, the wife specializes in hair color and style. I've done color and highlights and she is phenomenal. My hair color always looks prettier than I expected it to. She also blow dries and flat irons with detail and precision. Plus, she is generally very sweet, calm and service-oriented. Edwin, the husband, should be named "Edwin Scissor Hands" because he cuts and styles hair with his heart and soul like a true artist. It's clear that for him, this is not just a job; this is his life's work. Just bring a picture of what you want and he will nail it. I always get compliments from people asking me who cut my hair after he's laid his hands on it. Hair is big for me, as it is for a lot of women. Especially as a black woman, my hair is tied to my identity, beauty and value. So to find a place that I can trust will do a good job consistently really means a lot!
