A whole decade and some change later I'm still getting my hair done by Liz! In college I finally decided to go for short hair and Liz was the only person I trusted to make that transition with. In fact I was one of her first male clients and I called myself her 'lab rat' as she experimented with different clippers and such so she could expand her talents further than what she already had. If you're looking for a stylist who actually listens and creates what you want with your hair, Liz is the person to see. She's absolutely thriving in her new studio and listens to exactly what her clients ask. Even other stylists pop in her studio to check in and ask for advice every time I'm there. I want to update my original review because Anna and Leo have been amazing over these past few…read moremonths! After I got my vaccine and was past the mandatory waiting time, I made an appointment with Anna for a haircut. From the beginning, they've been wearing masks and face shields, checking temperatures, and ensuring they can engage in contact tracing if necessary. They also require appointments and keep the door locked between customers to cut down on the number of people in the shop at any given time. I felt very safe coming back. Because it had been over a year since my last cut, my hair was kind of a mess. Anna did an amazing job, getting rid of all my split ends and uneven layers. It felt amazing to finally get a haircut again and have my hair in a manageable state. In April, I broke my leg and it soon became clear that there wouldn't be a way for me to wash my hair at home with our shower setup. I made several appointments to get my hair washed here instead. The prices for a wash were very reasonable so I could get one every few days while my leg was healing. Vicky did an awesome job and Leo was available on the days Vicky was out. It made such a difference for my mental health on the days when I had a fresh wash! Finally, I made an appointment with Leo to fix my color after months of quarantine box dye experiments. My hair was about four different colors and it simply wasn't looking good. Leo did an amazing job of lifting some of the darker color with foils and fixing the top part so everything blended together perfectly. There's no way I could have fixed the color myself and it looks great now. Leo even kept a card with my color blend so we can remember what he did last time. Everyone is always so friendly and professional here. No matter what services I've needed, they've done an excellent job each time. The prices are quite reasonable, especially for the quality outcomes. I highly recommend Anna and Leo!

I write this after a gentle washing and combing, whereupon I am still losing copious hair…read more It's been three weeks since Leo destroyed it. It was meant to be a routine highlight foil touchup of my roots. I don't know what went wrong. What he did differently. Why he was so negligent. But I left, running my fingers through my hair to find that it was coming out in fistfuls. Also, my scalp was burning. Was it the toner? Was the bleach too close to the scalp? On for too long? My guess is that he left the bleach on for too long because he overbooked clients after having to close the shop for so long at the beginning of the pandemic. Maybe they were trying to make up for lost time and money. I don't know. It's not my job to know. It's the job of someone I paid who is supposed to be a professional to know - and to avoid. I was horrified. And that horror has only amplified each time I wash or try to gently brush my hair and more falls out. My already fine and thin hair which was finally growing out and getting thicker is now reduced to a rat tail. And now, I can see bald spots. That day, I left with half the hair I walked in with. Now, I have about a quarter. Maybe less. I try not to make a big deal of it. It seems so vain. But, for women, our hair is a very big deal. Otherwise we wouldn't be bothering to visit the salon at all, pay money to treat it, or read these reviews. I've become extremely depressed over the past few weeks. I don't want to go out with my friends or see anyone. I try to hide how little hair I have with long ribbons which look ridiculous and unflattering. This has destroyed my self-esteem and ruined my confidence. I deliberated for a while about whether to leave a review, knowing that it might have a negative affect on a business for a family who seems otherwise nice and is probably financially hurting after having to close for Covid. However, I also work at a business that is family owned. We too have been left bad reviews many times. And, while we don't like them, it has forced us to change our professional practice so that we don't make the same mistakes again. It has made us better. My hope is that the owners of La Lana salon will do the same and reflect deeply on what it is they did to destroy my hair so that nobody else has to ever go through what I am right now. I decided to leave a review here on yelp because they managed to get my google review taken down I guess to save face and business. Not exactly ethical...

Here's why: The salon is run by a dynamic duo husband/wife team. Anyone who is or has been married knows it takes a special kind of person to work with your spouse. I'm sure it is a challenge for them but those challenges are the very impetus to the production of high quality output. The salon is run like a well-oiled machine. They are constantly in communication with one another, which produces great organization and warm/courteous customer service. It's not a high traffic salon so you will be one of three people there at most, which is great because that allows them to really spend time on you and pay attention to details. They've been practicing hair for over 30 years so aside from the business aspect, they are extremely talented at what they do. Grace, the wife specializes in hair color and style. It's clear that for him, this is not just a job; this is his life's work. Just bring a picture of what you want and he will nail it. I always get compliments from people asking me who cut my hair after he's laid his hands on it. Hair is big for me, as it is for a lot of women. Let me start by saying this is not a reflection of the ladies personalities because they are sweet; however, I don't feel they are staying up to date on new styling trends etc. I went for color and extensions. My hair had to be lifted which is fine but the end result had to be toned down which is also fine but when it was done I still had orange "hot roots". I was so discouraged I decided to just leave it and move on to the extensions. Again, the stylist was different for this and also nice. However, again her technique was subpar. Two days later here I am getting it redone at a different salon because they are already extremely loose. Yesterday, I had to go to a different salon to get the color fixed. I paid for the original services to include tips for both ladies but left very sad. So, if you're going for traditional not too complicated services or old school then they are fine; otherwise, I would say no. Very nice fun people but lacking in skills.

If I could give zero stars to CAROLETTE I would. I felt like I left looking worse than how I came…read morein, I left feeling sad over my hair. When you're getting your hair done you're supposed to feel confident but I felt the complete opposite, insecure and have chosen not to wear it out since. I was getting my hair done for my birthday that same day and could not even wear it in a silk press because of this. I came in for a silk press on my 4C hair. Carolette started by completely greasing my scalp and the straightening it. My roots were not straightened whatsoever and because she put heavy grease on my scalp my hair had no movement and was stiff. The TRIM is my major issue with the styling she did! My hair is completely uneven, which I can agree my hair needed a trim but wow it looks like I have split ends with the trim she gave me. She CUT my hair so much shorter and I would say this is botched. I have no issue with getting my hair trimmed/cut and actually prefer bobs but this was a disaster of a job. When she finished I explained to her how my hair was uneven, she literally left one long piece on one side lol. She said while pointing at some poster that I honestly didn't look at "A TRIM WILL BE UNEVEN, IF YOU WERE GETTING A CUT THEN IT WOULD BE EVEN". I have never heard that in my life! But ok. She was defensive about my concerns she even cut me off. I tried to explain to her that if my hair needed a trim and the trim would be uneven with me being a NEW CLIENT I think it would be best to explain that. Most professional stylist will give you a consultation on how much they are cutting or even better would you as a client would prefer. I was charged $75 for the silk press and $25 for the trim. I later after realizing the extent of the "trim" and unevenness that was concealed by curls at the time, I requested a discount on the service. I've never had to ask that of a stylist before but I was just so upset over the appearance of my hair it seemed right and she discounted me 40% on the service. The way that my hair is cut I will have to spend more money to fix and possibly cut it really short to accommodate for the unevenness. I am surprised that she felt comfortable as the OWNER with the way she styled my hair and felt comfortable about letting me leave the salon that way lol. Overall, I'm still hurt over this experience and unless you want a trim like mine then you should try to avoid.
