Catching feisty barracuda & toad calico bass!…read more For over 30 years, "Sport fishing with Dan Hernandez" has been airing weekly on TV, teaching viewers how to catch & cook fish. Dan is a fishing expert with over 50 years of experience fishing the California & Mexican coast. He also founded the Dan Hernandez Youth Foundation over 18 years ago, in an effort to promote & spread the joy & love of fishing to the next generation. Besides TV taping fishing charters, he also provides private charters on his 31' Tiara Express boat, the "Mi Sueno". Specializing in 1/2 & 3/4 day charters, the trips target local reefs, structure & Catalina Island. Occupancy is limited to just 4 anglers (3 minimum needed), and all bait, tackle & fishing equipment are provided. Anglers just need to bring their fishing license, food/drink, proper layering of clothing, camera & a good attitude. Normally, Dan offers a 50% discount on open party trips in the spring. However, due to the lockdown & subsequent reopening phases, he also offered discounted trips this summer. Not having fished for many years, and the shutdown making me stir crazy, I secured my spot on a trip & was eager to hook into fish. We started the day fishing by the Catalina Sea Ranch mussel farm. The target was yellowtail, the most sought after gamefish in SoCal. My goal this year is to catch my first ever yellowtail, but alas, they weren't biting. Dan then brought us to Izor's Reef. On my first cast with a lively sardine, I instantly hooked a well beyond legal barracuda. From there, it was wide open on calico bass. They were so thick, the bass would congregate by the boat. Just drop a baited hook, and it would be fish on. I even managed to land a big, toad calico bass. It had some shoulders on her, and I had a blast landing it. Limiting out on calicos, our catch was filleted on our way back from the 1/2 day trip. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2890uz3YNwE&t=0s Pro tip - I strongly suggest consuming ginger/motion sickness meds prior to boarding, for those w/o sea legs. During our trip, swells were around 4-5 feet. I almost got seasick, which quickly dissipated once I starting catching fish. Dan Hernandez also offers bay, harbor & Catalina Island cruises, for those looking something other than fishing. Parking is adjacent to Shoreline Village, in which Dan will provide a parking pass for the day. Service from Dan & his deckhand, Richard, was exceptional. I'm hooked on fishing, again! Dan put us on the fish & we muscled them on in. I was fortunate to land the biggest barracuda & calico bass of the trip. He provides everything needed, including a lifetime of knowledge, to ensure a successful fishing adventure. I'll be booking again, soon. Highly recommend!

The performance of the Fishing Syndicate rods & how it feels on our back is amazing. The rods are designed in a way that takes pressure off our back & puts more pressure on the fish. The proof is really in the pull. It is the rod that wears the fish out, not the reel. We love how the sensitive tips shut down into a super strong backbone. All of our rods have quality Alps guides. These are some of the reasons why we own 8 of these high performing Fishing Syndicate rods! * FSC 860L (15-30) - this 8'6" longer length rod is great for casting out farther to reach the kelp beds where the Calicos are. * FSC 800L (15-30) - we have 2 of these & they're perfect for all around local fishing 3/4 day for catching Rock Fish, Sand & Calico Bass, to name a few. * FSC 800M (20-50) - this is our Yellowtail slayer! * FSC 760H (25-60) - this has a strong back bone & is great for yo-yo fishing. * FSC 700XH (40-80) - this is used for the bigger Bluefin & Yellowfin. The 7' length is easier on our backs when pulling these big guys in. * FSC 760 3XH (60-130) - this rail rod is perfect for pulling in the cows. * FSC 700M (20-50) - this one is being custom made for me, just in time for my birthday in June. A review of it will follow. Obviously without a doubt, we are Syndicated & highly reccomend you be to!

I highly recommend taking fishing lessons with Guppies Fishing Adventures…read more Fishing has been on my list of things to learn for years now. After catching my first fish while on vacation in MN, I knew when I returned home to CA I wanted to find a guide to teach me the basics, and I'm so glad I found Guppies. I've taken three lessons so far -- one at the dock in Marina del Rey and two half day boat trips at Castaic and Pyramid Lakes. Each time I had a blast!! Like others have mentioned, Lorenzo is truly the best teacher. He is knowledgeable and passionate about his craft. He had answers to all of my questions. He taught me different casting methods, how to tie two knots (palomar and improved cinch knot), and in between catching fish at the marina, we dug beneath the dock to grab mussels and cracked them open to use as bait (maybe my favorite part.) I love learning new life skills and catching a fish is one of the most rewarding things. The tug is the drug!! Looking forward to more fishing adventures with Guppies in the future -- thanks Lorenzo!!
