Awesome variety of Items. But not too friendly or helpful! Went in with my wife and two boys to buy some new rods for the kids' baits, etc. Thought since there were other parents and kids there it would be a good, friendly time.... Nope! Unless you're a usual customer, they don't have time to talk to you or help find the right product. We were spending quite a bit of money. It felt like I was wasting the owner's time, he didn't want to talk to us until he saw that we put everything back and were leaving empty-handed! The boys were bummed, and it left a bad impression. Instead of building a future with new fishermen, they'd rather buy online and cut out the real-life connection! Anywhere friendly and knowledgeable that's close by please let me know? read more

Candy store for anglers! I usually go here to buy my weights, but this time I needed some help trying to catch Bonito. Steve was nice enough to show me what was needed to catch the fish I wanted and gave extra options that would fit my budget. He was kind enough to set up the rig as well. I was stoked after getting the set up from a man that was all about fishing. Ask these guys anything about fishing and they'll give you the right answers read more

The service and selection at Island fishing is top shelf the customer service was excellent found me exactly what I needed in my price range I couldn't ask for more read more

They have absolutely everything you'd be looking for in a tackle. Really great service and nice people

This place had the last of the white flukes I happened to stumble upon before a WSB trip in Ventura. Great staff. Helpful with info. Great selection. Got my bang for my buck when I caught a couple legal WSB with the flukes. read more

They have a full supply of rod building components. They have a great selection of lures and jigs. Sam and staff are very knowledgeable.

Amazing owner and selection. Great prices on blanks and used gear. Everyone is very nice and helpful. If you need gear this is the place!!

Been to this shop a few times, bought rod building gear and was a decent experience except that one of the employees on 2 separate occasions including today made me uncomfortable. Felt like they thought I was going to steal something, even had someone sitting by the walkway exit. Was there to purchase a rod blank, grips and guides. On the first occasion, I had already purchased my blank and was walking out and that same employee asked another employee "has this guy paid for his stuff?" Today, I had the intention of buying my blank and supplies. But, I ended up going to another tackle shop to buy my blank and supplies. Maybe it was a misunderstanding, but sure didn't feel that way. Don't think I'll be going back sadly, they have good supplies. read more

First I e gotta say I highly recommend this shop Went in today because of a reel fitment issue. The rods reel seat was too big to accept the reel clamp. Sam (the owner) listened to my concern and said let me find something that'll work for my Cavalla 12. He found a rod that fit perfectly for my reel. Sam spent lots of time looking for a reel seat that had a smaller OD. Im very happy with Sam's customer service and highly recommend his shop. Here's one for you Sam... https://youtu.be/Ap7diFW8oGQ Thanks again Sam read more

The owner Sam De La Torres is a dishonest crook! On the Friedman Adventure podcast show Tackle Shop Confession (a live interactive podcast with Q&A) he told me personally, come on down and he'd get me a deal on a fishing rod I want. Total scammer. I go there the next day and guess what... No deal on fishing rod/jig stick I wanted to purchase. The scammer wanted me to pay full price and tells me it's a good deal. Total airhead. Moreover, Sam mumbles/talks to himself condescending things about you while you look around. This crook even made me wait while spooling a reel for somebody that's not even present after I asked about a fishing rod. Mind you, myself and another costumer were the only one there. Hahaha. This place is also the dirtiest place I've ever been to. It's like he's never cleaned the place in a 100 years. So overpriced compared to all other tackle shops. Yo-yo jigs and surface irons are marked up $2-5 more than Turners Outdoorsman. Who knows what else is marked up. My advice stay away! The owner Sam is a crook that has a lot of friends and knowledge in the industry but the man can't even honor what he promised. Sad!! read more

Does Island Fishing Tackle have a large selection of rods, reels, terminal tackle, etc. to choose from? Absolutely. But what I appreciate most is the service that I received from Sam the owner. Being new to off-shore fishing, he was able to educate me about fishing in So. Cal waters, and guide me in my selection of gear. He is super patient, very knowledgeable, and appears to enjoy helping us newbies out. Service like this is why I'll continue to do business with this shop. read more

I went there to spool my reels. Asked question about tuna fishing to Steve since I'm new to offshore fishing. He explains in detail with easy to understand language. He even told me that I can rent tuna rod set up from the landing rather than buying from them since I'm not sure for big tuna fishing yet. I will be back to Island Fishing Tackle for sure! Thank you Steve! read more

First time trying to build a deep sea rod/reel. I quickly learned how expensive fishing gear can get. I gave them my budget and they worked with me on it with no hesitation. These guys walked me through the whole process. They were so helpful and even got carried away by showing me all their tricks and tips to catching rock fish, halibut, and snapper. I was there for a while taking in all their knowledge and experience. These guys are very passionate about sharing their experiences with others. The two gentlemen shook my hand and said "good luck on your first trip brotha!" I'm definitely coming back! read more

The selection here is absolutely crazy. The workers are very helpful and friendly. The prices aren't bad either

The most knowledgeable tackle store in the area! A huge selection of rods, reels and general tackle. Their location is conveniently located off the 405 freeway(making it an easy stop on the way to San Diego!), they are now located behind the Ralph's and next to O'Reilly's in a place twice the size of their last location. The owner's are always very honest and truthful- prices are fair and you won't be up-sold with products you do not need. They have stuff for everyone- beginners to advanced fishermen. They are always willing to help/give advice without making you feel intimidated like other stores do! Make sure you check it out if you've never been there! read more
