Had lunch with friends and stopped by this fishing gear specialty store near the restaurant. As we chatted with the owner, he mentioned it's a family-owned business that has been here around for over twenty years! The owner was very friendly and knowledgeable and we bought our fishing permits here. We also walked around the store, and it mainly specializes in selling a wide variety of fishing baits and other fishing tackles. Compared to the Turner's Outdoorsman, I actually prefer the atmosphere here, and most product's prices here match with Amazon's, so no worries about overpaying. There's an adorable dog and we had a really great shopping experience here and definitely will come back!

Long story short: Store: Great for going in and getting what you need and back out. Purchased tackle for 2 people: $99.15 Customer service... I guess you would have to test your luck on whoever is available but I won't be going back... Details: Yesterday, I had some business meetings in the LB area... and figured that I should stop by this store to get information related to the tackle I would need for a last-minute fishing trip I made for later tonight. Since, it was going to be a bit out of the way, I called in to check if they were going to be opened and that I had a few questions related to tackle I should get ready for a friend and myself. Whoever answered said they're ready to answer anything when I arrived. I do not believe the person that assisted me was the same person over the phone due to his poor communication skills. I wasn't planning to bring in this 7ft rod that has been left behind for over a decade by a family friend in my garage to see if there are any issues with it other than having the line changed. When I asked about using rods 8ft - 10ft I was told that I was going to struggle with it. Then, I asked about tady lures and the response I received was that it is something more for someone that is experienced and knows how to use it. Again... not answering my question. I was hoping for more information than I was able to get off youtube... and google search engines. Instead, he further went on telling me about there being a learning curve, all the information that he could tell me but will not because he has determined that I would even be able to remember (I have no problem pulling out a pen and paper from my bag and actively take notes on info that I have not already gathered on my own). I said please tell me because I simply will be able to remember. He said look I could sell you the whole store but I am not. Again ... no thank you ... and that's still not what I am asking. I understand not everyone is detailed oriented and quick at learning new things. I didn't realize I needed to try and convince a salesperson to tell more about the specific products they sell that I am interested in buying. It is rare for me to have free time and enough time to go fishing more ... Especially, in 2020 due to my profession, my days off are scarce and I value what I choose to invest in my free time. I shouldn't have to waste my time to come in and not get all my questions answered or at least referred to another person/source. Especially, after reading all these great reviews... definitely felt dumb for going out of my way to check this store out and not the stores that were more convenient.

These guys are supper efficient, you won't be wondering around looking for stuff because they have great customer service. I came in to look for some pin screws that I couldn't find elsewhere and Yup they are stocked!

Purchased a Phenix rod from them a few weeks ago. The day before my trip, I had a small issue with my rod and called Mark to explain. He was extremely understanding and was able to get me a replacement rod just in time. Their customer service is great and their selection of hooks, jigs, and other accessories makes me take the 30 min drive. Thanks Performance tackle!! Also, I caught a yellow on the rod

Few times in the area since my boy practice baseball at the cage. So I decided to to check out this place due to great reviews. As I walked in no other customers in the store which it seem odd due to great reviews. After talking to some guy I asked to see if I can get line on my two reels. He suggested to go with 65 spectra on my Torium 30 and 45 spectra on my 16 A Trinidad. After adding line to both reels the cost for both was $160 I think it was way to expensive. I believe this place is way to overprice, never stoping again.

I'd been looking for a tackle shop in northern OC and stumbled upon this place. James (owner of Cambinos http://www.yelp.com/biz/cambinos-asian-bbq-cypress) recommended this place and, boy, was I surprised when I first stopped by. This place looks tiny from the outside, but it's bigger than you'd think. They've got a good selection of fresh and saltwater equipment. If you're into inshore/offshore fishing, they can certainly take care of you here. But, from what I've read on many fishing forums, this is THE place for bass set-ups. These guys are apparently well known for their custom-wrapped bass rods. I've seen their work up close and it's nice. Real nice. Anyway, they also have bait in addition to a great selection of artificial lures (crankbaits, swimbaits, irons, etc.). In terms of service, I don't think you can go wrong. I've mostly dealt with Jeremy and have never been treated poorly. If you're looking for something in particular, they'll help you out. And, you won't feel pressured to buy something you don't want or need. If you're into fishing, you should definitely check this place out.

Lead heads. I have no clue what it means.

The park is easy to get to. you just take the exit, turn right, and there's a parking lot right there. The parking costs $8, but be warned! there's no cash accepted. Make sure to have a credit or debit card, Apple Pay, or Google Pay ready, because the line was pretty slow when I went, and it took almost 10 minutes just to get into the park. Once inside, I was impressed by how beautiful the park was! April was a fantastic time to visit. The grass was lush and green, and the whole atmosphere was really relaxing. I'm not sure if it stays this way year-round, but in April, it was really pristine. I loved how there are special areas for parties. you can reserve them online and they also have spots for grilling and even pitching your own tent. However, I was a bit disappointed with the bathroom situation. For $8 parking, the restrooms were really dirty. I also noticed a few homeless individuals wandering around, and one person was using the restroom for a very long time, which made it even more unpleasant. The city or management really needs to step up if you're charging for parking, you need to ensure better services, like cleaner restrooms or even some water fountains. On the bright side, the kids' playground was really nice, and the park overall felt clean, especially along the trails. I loved that you can bring a bike or rent one, and the trail was perfect for a relaxing ride. So, big shoutout to the staff and management for keeping the park clean overall, but please, if you're charging for parking, improve the bathroom facilities. I'd definitely come back for the scenery, but I hope the logistics get better!

We came by after the rain which unfortunately meant most of the trails were closed and there was some flooding in the roads, but enjoyed ourselves nonetheless. They have bike rentals with surries and deuce coupes which we ended up taking out for an hour ($29 an hour is a little steep, but we just couldn't resist taking our pup out for a ride!) Great place to walk dogs (though unfortunately the dog park was also closed...check their website for updates before coming). He really enjoyed all the squirrels and birds around the lake, though there are a ton of goose droppings to dodge while you walk. Looking forward to coming back when everything is open again. $8 per car is a little pricey, but it really is a great park worth a visit!

Catching feisty barracuda & toad calico bass!…read more For over 30 years, "Sport fishing with Dan Hernandez" has been airing weekly on TV, teaching viewers how to catch & cook fish. Dan is a fishing expert with over 50 years of experience fishing the California & Mexican coast. He also founded the Dan Hernandez Youth Foundation over 18 years ago, in an effort to promote & spread the joy & love of fishing to the next generation. Besides TV taping fishing charters, he also provides private charters on his 31' Tiara Express boat, the "Mi Sueno". Specializing in 1/2 & 3/4 day charters, the trips target local reefs, structure & Catalina Island. Occupancy is limited to just 4 anglers (3 minimum needed), and all bait, tackle & fishing equipment are provided. Anglers just need to bring their fishing license, food/drink, proper layering of clothing, camera & a good attitude. Normally, Dan offers a 50% discount on open party trips in the spring. However, due to the lockdown & subsequent reopening phases, he also offered discounted trips this summer. Not having fished for many years, and the shutdown making me stir crazy, I secured my spot on a trip & was eager to hook into fish. We started the day fishing by the Catalina Sea Ranch mussel farm. The target was yellowtail, the most sought after gamefish in SoCal. My goal this year is to catch my first ever yellowtail, but alas, they weren't biting. Dan then brought us to Izor's Reef. On my first cast with a lively sardine, I instantly hooked a well beyond legal barracuda. From there, it was wide open on calico bass. They were so thick, the bass would congregate by the boat. Just drop a baited hook, and it would be fish on. I even managed to land a big, toad calico bass. It had some shoulders on her, and I had a blast landing it. Limiting out on calicos, our catch was filleted on our way back from the 1/2 day trip. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2890uz3YNwE&t=0s Pro tip - I strongly suggest consuming ginger/motion sickness meds prior to boarding, for those w/o sea legs. During our trip, swells were around 4-5 feet. I almost got seasick, which quickly dissipated once I starting catching fish. Dan Hernandez also offers bay, harbor & Catalina Island cruises, for those looking something other than fishing. Parking is adjacent to Shoreline Village, in which Dan will provide a parking pass for the day. Service from Dan & his deckhand, Richard, was exceptional. I'm hooked on fishing, again! Dan put us on the fish & we muscled them on in. I was fortunate to land the biggest barracuda & calico bass of the trip. He provides everything needed, including a lifetime of knowledge, to ensure a successful fishing adventure. I'll be booking again, soon. Highly recommend!

I went there with someone, and the moment we stepped into the park, I felt this bright, open energy that reminded me of the same playful excitement I felt when I visited Funko Hollywood. The whole place felt alive in a way I didn't expect from a park. What really stood out to me right away was how many teenagers were there. They were walking around the trails, relaxing under the trees, taking pictures near the lake, and just enjoying the space in a natural, comfortable way. Seeing so many teenagers made the park feel even more vibrant, almost like it was designed for them to have a place where they could be themselves. As I walked around, I appreciated how easy it was to enjoy everything without feeling rushed. The park is big enough to explore but not so big that it feels overwhelming. The lake area especially has this peaceful atmosphere that still feels exciting because of all the activity happening around it. I saw teenagers taking photos with the water behind them, and the scenery looked so good that it almost felt like a real outdoor version of those fun, creative photo spots at Funko Hollywood. Everything was free, which makes it even better for teenagers who want a place to hang out, take pictures, and have fun without spending money. I only visited Ralph B. Clark Park one time before making this review, but it left a strong impression on me. I didn't realize how much there was to enjoy until I walked deeper into the park and saw the trails, the open fields, the museum building, and all the little areas where people were relaxing. The experience turned out exactly the way I hoped it would. It reminded me how much I enjoy places that feel youthful, open, and creative. In the summertime of 2024, I learned that I am still physically and mentally 18 years old even though I have lived for 24 years, and that sense of youthfulness connected perfectly with the atmosphere of this park. My prefrontal cortex may be more developed than the average 25 year old's, but that does not stop me from appreciating places that make me feel playful, sharp, and relaxed at the same time. Ralph B. Clark Park is honestly one of the most enjoyable outdoor places I have been to in a long time. It has that perfect mix of calm and excitement that teenagers love, and it gives them a space to talk, laugh, take pictures, walk around, and feel creative without any pressure. I would highly recommend that teenagers go there because it is the kind of place where they can have fun, feel comfortable, and make memories in a setting that feels safe, open, and full of life.

The Driveway off of 7th Street is easy to miss, as the sign is small. I've been fishing the Ocean and Freshwater for many years. I started fly fishing about two years ago, but only gone two trips. Well, I thought I was fly fishing just fine and catching fish during my yearly backpacking trips in the Eastern Sierras. A co-worker had taken beginner's casting lessons and had recommended for me to take the classes to improve on my casting. I had visited the facility on the night during a club competition. I saw the fun and camaraderie the fly casters were having. I located the beginners casting class in Long Beach Casting Club's website. The club is the home to many local Master Fly Casting and FFF Certified Fly Casting Instructors. On premises are a casting pond and the club house. Stadium style lights are usually on Tuesday and Thursdays evenings. Class starts with lecture and videos inside the club house, then they are divided into four groups and each group has several instructors to help students with their casting for the evening at the casting pond. The classes run about five weeks, and each week they teach a different cast. Classes start 7pm sharp, so if you are late, you will miss the 15 minutes of lecture and videos. Each week, you will have the same group of instructors who will help you with your casting and any questions you may have. The first night they go over with suggestions on proper equipments, Fly Rod, Fly Reel, Fly Line, Fly Line Backing and Tapered Leader. Class suggest that you have your own equipment, 9ft 5/6wt balance outfit as I brought my lightweight 7.5ft 3wt outfit that I use for my backpacking trips. If you need assistance in assembling the rod, reel, and/or fly line, the instructors will help you, just bring them in at least 30-40 minutes before the class starts. They teach the proper rod grip, Pick up and Lay Down, False Cast, Roll Cast, Shooting Line, Off Shoulder Casts and Line Mending. I thought I knew how to cast a fly line, but I was amazed how much I improved after each class. Anyone can attend these classes, men and women, if you have a desire to learn. I am happy that I had taken the classes at Long Beach Casting Club. I now have more confidence to tackle the Eastern Sierras, Lakes, streams and maybe Bone fish on a fly during my next vacation. The Long Beach Casting club also has rod building, fly tying, on-the-water outings and intermediate fly casting classes. If you are a seasoned caster, but need any help, stop by as previously mentioned, they have instructor or advanced students that can help.
