I originally took the basics of pistol shooting course to satisfy the licensing requirements for Connecticut. I thought that I was fairly knowledgeable already and would therefore not get much out of the course other than a piece of paper saying I had taken it. I really could not have been more wrong. This course really covers everything you need to know about handling, shooting and maintaining a pistol. You learn so much: The physics of shooting, different types of guns with different types of actions (I knew nothing about revolvers), the various types of ammunition, how to safely clear a malfunction and so much more. Safety is paramount to Mike and his guys. He teaches and follows proper procedure for handling a firearm, and I never felt anything but 100 percent safe in the classroom and at the range. There is a marksmanship component of the course. Just passing is fairly easy, but Mike and the guys encourage you to take your shooting to the next level (There are 4 levels of shooting proficiency in total, but you only need to make level 1 to pass). I felt like my groups really improved after the instructors gave me feedback on my stance, breathing and grip. There are also the little things like techniques to minimizing your exposure to lead at the shooting range and when cleaning your pistol. It might seem trivial, but Mike demonstrates what potential long-term effects it can have on you. In short, I got a ton out of this course and wholeheartedly recommend it to anyone who has any interest in shooting. read more

I completed the Basic Rifle (shotgun) course this past weekend and have nothing but positive things to say about the course and especially the instructors (Gary and Curtis). As a first time gun owner I was looking for a class to teach me the fundamentals of gun safety and shooting. They delivered. The combination of classroom time and range time was perfect (8:30 am to 6pm). I now feel very comfortable with my firearm and look forward to practicing and taking additional courses. Gary and Curtis were great and were more than happy to answer any and all questions. When we got to the range, three more instructors joined us, so when shooting you had a personal coach right next to you to give guidance. Highly recommend this class for all first time gun owners. I decided to take a firearms class because my Dad left me his gun when he passed away, and although he showed it to me and told me he loved shooting he never let me shoot it. When I held it for the first time I knew that I needed to learn everything I could about being safe and confidant about owning this firearm. Mike and his team made me comfortable, knowledgeable and instilled safety, while teaching me the proper handling to be a safe responsible gun owner. The textbook part of the class was great because we were able to ask questions and really understand all the working parts of the firearm. But the hands on , one on one instruction at the range today helped my ability to shoot at the target greatly improve with the insight of correction and direction I needed. I just took the Basic Pistol Course (2/16/20) with Mike and Curtis and had an outstanding experience. The program was well run and extremely professional. For the range session of the course each student had an individual instructor assigned to them, which made the experience that much more impactful. My instructor Gary was a truly great gentlemen. Gary quickly identified my key deficiencies and strengths. This allowed us to not waste time going over things that I was fine with, and instead work on my unique problems at a pace that was appropriate for me. My other classmates worked on their weaknesses at a pace appropriate for them with their assigned instructors. I hope to work again with these men in the future. I Took the NRA Basic Rifle Course with Phase 3. Mike and his staff are amazing. They are extremely knowledgeable and professional. The course was well planned out and I learned a tremendous amount of information. If you're looking into getting your first rifle (like I was) or maybe you've been wondering if there is more knowledge you SHOULD know about firearms other than what you've learned from your family or friends (or especially what you've seen on TV), then this is where you want to go. My husband and I took this class and we can't believe how much we've learned in just one day. I'm really glad we decided on Phase 3 for our training. I feel much more comfortable with my firearm and truly enjoyed myself during this class. Recently took the Defensive Pistol II through Mike and team P3T. The pre-course briefing that was sent out prior to the course set a great tone for the actual class---extreme focus on safety, what to expect, more safety, and what to bring. Did I mention safety? Class started on time. Class setup was super-organized and the importance of safety was stressed again. In addition to the instructor, there were 2 RSO's. Instruction was great, drills were fantastic! Individualized help and guidance was offered throughout the class. All done in a supportive and encouraging environment! I have taken 2 courses so far with phase 3 training. Michael and his team of instructors are professionals and handle themselves as such. Taking these 2 courses my confidence level has improved greatly. Michael and his team stress safety throuout the course which provided the class with a level of calmness knowing that we were in good hands and that safety is the most important part of being a responsible firearms owner. I cannot thank you enough for giving me the knowledge and confidence to shoot side by side with my husband. I was so apprehensive about guns in general but Mike set me straight. Knowledge is definitely the key. He was patient with me as I was a total novice and even afforded me a female range instructor which for ME was ideal. Cindy was amazing and further put me at ease. My first ever firearms training class. Phase 3 is really what I needed. I am a novice literally shot guns for the 1st time this week in my life. I left the class knowing how to be safe, keep others safe, how to use and maintain a firearm and shoot it. By the time I got some coaching at the range I was placing all my shots on the center of a plate at 30yds. Again I have never shot a gun before. Can't recommend Phase 3 highly enough. Down to Earth regular guys with out the ego of "expert gun guys". If this is an area of interest, Phase 3 is the place to start. These guys are the goods.
